July kind of flew by! Do I say that every month? Even though, it’s pretty much the same old same old over here, this month seems to have happened in the blink of an eye. Thanks to Marcia for opening the July 2020 Runfessions. Let’s do this!
July 2020 Runfessions
I Runfess…
I have not run at all the last 2 weeks. My darn hip flexor is acting up again. Having made the mistake before of running on it anyway, I decided to be smarter this time and back off before it got worse. So, it only bothers me if I try to run. It does not hurt at all if I cycle, swim, walk or do anything that is not impact. Go figure! Admittedly, this happened to occur when we have had our hottest few weeks of the summer. Sorry not sorry.
I Runfess…
I finally went to see a new Ortho who specializes in regenerative orthopedics and aging athletes. (Who me?) Apparently, I have a similar issue to what I had last fall. My hips are out of alignment and thus causing impingement when I run. So now what? I will go back to being more vigilant about my hip exercises. I am going to take another 2 weeks off of running and then go back and see him. I will most likely be doing a series of Prolotherapy then. Stay tuned for more details on all of that.
I Runfess…
Even though I am not running right now, I decided to join Amanda’s (Run To The Finish) August Virtual Run Club. I am sure I can benefit from some of her exercises as well as the other guest lecturers she will have. Sounds like she has some great topics up for discussion. Will I be “seeing” anyone else there?
I Runfess…
After being hunkered down here for more than 4 months, I am making a 48 hour trip to Chicago tomorrow. My daughter is moving there and I am taking her up. I am really happy for her! Too bad, I won’t be able to visit any of my Chicago buddies this time. Last time I was there was when a bunch of us ran the Rock N Roll race almost 2 years ago. I cannot wait to get back and visit when things are more stable and maybe even do a another race.
Wendy says
Oh rats, I did both the runfession and the coffee date together. I get so confused!
Sorry to hear about the hip impingement. I hope the exercises help!
Safe travels!
Deborah Brooks says
That’s okay there is always more coffee! 🙂
Catrina says
Ah, so there’s the diagnosis. So sorry, Deborah. But then you might as well be injured when it’s hot and humid outside!
Guess what? My PT yesterday said the same thing about hip exercises… I should do more of them.
Now I need to do some research on that.
Have fun in Chicago – awesome group photo, by the way!
Deborah Brooks says
I will be sharing some of my hip exercise next week 🙂 Healing vibes to you as well
Kim G says
Awwe – I love that photo from Chicago so much. I’m glad that you will be able to go there and help your daughter move. How exciting for her! Chicago is such an awesome city.
Sorry to hear about your hip flexor but it sounds like you are doing all the right things and hopefully those hip exercises will help.
Thanks for posting about the Virtual Running Club. I am going to check it out.
Deborah Brooks says
I sure hope that they help I am getting tired of these dumb hip injuries
Maureen says
Very smart to get your hip looked at and not run. Crossing my fingers that your time off and focusing on the exercises help it.
I runfess, my knee has been acting up again. Time to really focus on those PT exercises!
Safe travels and crossing my fingers for an easy move in for your daughter.
Deborah Brooks says
Thanks Maureen and I hope your knee feels better too. I tend to slack off on the PT work and then regret it.
Kimberly Hatting says
I’ll be curious to hear about your hip exercises.I could add a few new moves to my arsenal LOL Thankfully, I have had not had any problems in awhile, but I know my hips are not symmetrical and would benefit from some pre-hab work. Hope your trip goes well! I totally love that pic from Chicago…seems like a decade ago…
Chaitali says
I hope the new ortho can help out! Sounds like you have a good plan. Have fun on the trip to Chicago 🙂
Deborah Brooks says
I hope so thanks!
Michelle D. says
Ugh I’m so sorry to hear about your hip flexor issues! Seriously we should comiserate over exercises. Definitely smart to cut back on running, especially when you can do so many other things that don’t aggravate your hip.
That Chicago picture makes me smile! I hope it’s not too long before we could all get together like that again.
Deborah Brooks says
I sure hope that we all get to see each other again soon! Those hips argh!
Marcia says
Bummed we won’t see you while you’re here but hopefully another time. Safe travels! Looks like we’ve got some cooler weather on tap for you too. Hips are quirky. I hope you find a solution for your soon.
Deborah Brooks says
I know I wish I could see you all! Hopefully soon
Lisa @ Mile by Mile says
Sorry about the hip flexor! I hope the treatment helps and you can get back to running soon. It is a good time to back off though. Good luck with the move!
Deborah Brooks says
I hope so too thanks!
Debbie @ Deb Runs says
I hope your hip flexor recovers quickly. Those reoccurring injuries are such a pain.
How exciting that your daughter is moving to Chicago! We loved visiting when our son and daughter-in-law lived there. Safe travels on your whirlwind trip out there!
Deborah Brooks says
Thanks Deb I know that you know what it’s like
Chocolaterunsjudy says
Good luck with the move for your daughter!
I didn’t run this week. Just due to tiredness, really (and heat, and humidity). Not sure I’m really looking forward to running tomorrow, gotta say this week was kind of nice, but I’m gonna get back at it.
Hope you can get that hip tamed once & for all!
Deborah Brooks says
It is nice to take a week off of running from to time. 🙂
Beckett @ Birchwood Pie says
Well I guess if you HAVE to have a running injury that July is the best month of the year to have it. I hope you heal up soon. Enjoy your trip to Chi! We were going to go over spring break to see my SIL and we will be rescheduling the trip post-COVID.
Deborah Brooks says
Hope you get there soon too!
