Is Your Running Gear Summer Ready?

You are already in tip-top shape to start the season so let’s get your gear ready too.

Pack away your winter accessories

At the end of the winter season, wash and store away your winter accessories: gloves, hats, and face coverings, Donate or dispose of any you will not wear again. That way, they will all be ready to pull out for fall.

SPF yourself

If you are already not using sunscreen on the daily, it’s time to start. Sunscreen does expire and it’s a good idea to replace it every season. Don’t forget about lips they need protection as well.

Have a hydration plan

Whether you prefer a handheld or a backpack style hydration system, now is the time to get it out. Oftentimes,  the bottles, bladders, or other parts need replacing. It’s also helpful to do a sweat rate test and decide which if any electrolytes you plan to use.

Check your support system

The right sports bra can make a break a run. It is a good idea to replace them as they begin to stretch and wear out. Look for my updated list of new favorites coming soon.

I try not to have too much stuff, but I’m always surprised when I look at my gear from a different season. So many things I have forgotten about!
It’s a good idea to go through your clothes regularly and to get rid of things that you’re not likely to wear again.

yes, that is often my excuse to buy new seasonal gear LOL. I may have a slight activewear obsession

Considering I was still wearing my winter gear last week, it hasn’t been packed away yet! I wear sunscreen all year but I need to get some more since I wear so much more in the summer when more skin is exposed to the sun.

Yes, I also wear it all year around and wish I started when I was younger.

I have yet to find some sunscreen that doesn’t run into my eyes. I try to go before the sun is high and running in the woods helps. Speaking of that, I do need to remember my insect repellent!!! Anti-chafing cream! Summer has it’s own set of annoyances, lol

I really like the supergoop tinted sunscreen. Summer does bring it’s own set of challenges for sure!

Oh I have been ready (mentally!!!) for the past nine months, LOL! I do need to weed through some of my gear, though. It was 41F this morning for my run, so I still needed a headband and light gloves…looking forward to washing all of those “one last time (again)”.

When the kids moved out, I took over their rooms so I have plenty of space for my running stuff.

    Always ready for summer!!

I need that sunshine in my life.

It’a funny for me to imagine switching out my wardrobe- living in Florida, i just wear the same things year-round. Well, pretty much. I guess the cropped tank tops are making more of an appearance now. And as you know I got out my hydration vest! I also use supergoop sunscreen- it’s great.

yes, I imagine you don’t have to transition as much. 🙂

All great tips, Deborah! We are not quite at the pack away the Winter clothes stage up here, but hopefully soon — the forecast for next week actually looks Summer-like.

I am a thirsty runner so I hydrate even on short, Winter runs, but in Summer it’s time to go back to freezing some water in my water bottle overnight. I actually did do that a few weeks ago — which was before it snowed again — and I was so glad I did!

I am also a very thirsty and sweaty runner. I carry water with me all year around as well

Having a hydration plan is key! I sweat a lot, even in the Winter, so in the Summer it’s about 10x worse so I always make sure I have proper hydration.

I sweat a lot too and I use my hydration tabs all year round. game changer!

We are pretty much always summer ready here. Gear gets put aside when it wears out, not when the seasons change, because even our change of seasons isn’t incredibly drastic.

yes, I guess that makes it easier!
