As a long time Peloton member (8 years and counting!), I’m always up for trying out their new class formats and programs. Some I end up really enjoying and continuing and others not so much. So, when I was offered a 2 week trial to Beta Test the new personal trainer feature via Trainwell, I jumped right in to volunteer.

Peloton’s New Personal Training
Peloton recently announced a new partnership with Trainwell where members can work with a live human personal trainer. This would allow members to have their Peloton programs and classes designed and chosen specifically to fit their individual goals. There already exists an AI feature that allows Peloton to pick classes for members weekly. This new feature allows more personalization and with a real human trainer.
Worth noting: the trainers via Trainwell are real, certified personal trainers that have been vetted by Peloton.

How Does it Work?
Participants are required to download a free app that serves as the interface for the collaboration. After answering a few questions about goals and workout habits, participants are matched up with 3 trainers to choose from. Once a trainer is chosen, they set up a time to do a video call and create your plan. This call lasts up to one hour.

Your personal trainer will program your week of workouts in the Peloton Trainer app. From that app, you can easily schedule your proscribed workouts into your stack on your Peloton app. The chat feature is always open to ask questions or request modifications if desired or needed. If you also choose to do so, you can have your trainer program workouts that are non Peloton to use in a gym for example.

How much does this cost?
During the Beta test, Peloton is offering a 2 week free trial to selected all access members. After that, the cost is $99 per month. I decided that 2 weeks was not long enough to fully test Trainwell out and therefore, continued for one more month of training.
What about those streaks and challenges?
All classes taken still count the same way for any challenges and streaks. Completed classes count and show up the same way other Peloton classes do.
Limitations
If you are a Peloton user that likes to take live classes and interact with other class members live, this program may not be for you. Because the classes are matched to you and your goals ahead of time, live classes are not part of the weekly workout plans.
Who is this for?
If you are someone who has worked with a trainer before or really just appreciates having your workouts planned out ahead, this is for you. The workouts are thoughtfully tailored to your goals and time constraints.
If you are someone who is training for a certain race or life event, having a certified personal trainer help you plan out your workouts is extremely beneficial.
Final thoughts
So far, I am enjoying the variety of taking classes with instructors I don’t normally choose on my own. With a busy month ahead (leading up to my daughter’s wedding), I am appreciating have my workouts planned out for me in a thoughtful and structured way supporting my goals. Will I continue to use the personal training feature? Maybe. Check back to find out.
