Thanks for joining me and Sarah for Meatless Monday. I’ve got a super easy weeknight meal for you today that is full of flavor and texture and takes just minutes to prepare. I know you are going to love this Honey Garlic Skillet Tofu as much as I did.
Honey Garlic Skillet Tofu
Tofu has long been one of my go to sources of protein and I am always looking for new ways to prepare it. One of the great things about tofu is that it easily takes on the flavors that you pair with it. For this Honey Garlic Skillet Tofu, the honey caramelizes when cooked to create a fabulous texture and taste. When cooked at a high heat in the skillet, a crispy crust forms on the tofu that is absolutely delicious. The key to getting the honey to caramelize is to use a skillet at a very high heat. I love the sweet and spicy flavor combination of this dish.
With just a few simple ingredients, that you most likely have on hand, you can easily whip up this healthy protein packed meal any night of the week. I like to prep the ingredients I will be using beforehand to make sure I have everything I need. I was sent these adorable “Meatless Monday” ceramic bowls to cook with from the folks at Personal Creations. If you are looking for mother’s day gifts, they have great personalized items. I’ve served my Honey Garlic Skillet Tofu on top of black rice and paired it with some steamed broccoli and snap peas.
Ingredients
- 1 package extra firm tofu-drained
- 2 cloves of garlic-crushed
- 1 tsp ginger paste
- 4 Tbl honey
- 3 Tbl low sodium soy sauce
- 1/4 C orange juice
- 1 Tbl Siracha (optional)
- suggest serving with: black rice, steamed broccoli and snap peas
Instructions
- Drain tofu and cut into bite sized cubes
- In a mixing bowl whisk:
- garlic, ginger, honey, soy sauce, OJ and Siracha
- Marinate tofu in sauce for at least 30 minutes but can be overnight
- Heat a cast iron skillet on medium high
- Add tofu with just a touch of marinade and begin to sear each side
- flip over to cook all sides
- Slowly add small amounts of marinade to pan as you cooking
- Allow the marinate to caramelize and sear the tofu
- Serve on top of your favorite grain with broccoli
- Drizzle on remaining marinade and serve
One of the many great things about vegetarian cooking is that you do not risk any cross contamination as you do with raw meats for example. You will use only part of the marinade while cooking the tofu and can then drizzle the remaining marinade on top before serving.

Not a super fan of soy sauce though. I wonder what I could substitute?

I think you could just leave out the soy and just add a little salt or maybe teriaki sauce? let me know if it works

Oh you make me miss tofu this looks amazing!! I’ve been avoiding it since the doc told me to, well the big stuff anyways but not all the products that could contain small amounts. I did have some when in Boulder and was thinking about maybe having it once a month or something thinking hoping that couldn’t hurt too much but have been scared or maybe worried I would want it all the time again. I think I’m going to have to make this and just start enjoying it once a month to get my fix and see how it goes.
Happy Meatless Monday!
