Sometimes you just find a groove that seems to work for you.I am definitely a creature of habit and will be taking my most favorite healthy habits into the new year with me. Here goes!
Healthy Habits I will be taking into 2025
Daily Walking
Walking could be the most perfect exercise! Not only does a daily walk boost your mood thus helping your mental health, it can improve your self esteem. There are numerous studies showing how just the simple act of walking can improve cardiovascular fitness, joint health and our immune system. Add in a weighted vest, and you’ve just increased all of the above.
20-30 grams of protein per meal
Protein, protein, protein has been one of the buzz words of the year and for good reason. Protein helps to build and maintain muscle and helps us to feel more satiated. Aiming for 20-30 grams of protein per meal is an achievable goal with a little preplanning.

80+ ounces of water daily
Staying hydrated is always on my to do list! I’m less hungry and feel better during my workouts when I am properly hydrated. Drinking 10-12 glasses of water daily is a doable goal for me.
At least 7.5 hours of sleep
Working on my sleep hygiene the past few years has been a game changer for me. I just feel so much better getting at least 7.5 hours of sleep.
Strength training 4x week
I know that sticking to my strength training schedule will help me tremendously as I age. It’s actually quite energizing, rewarding and mood boosting for me.
My goals are to stay as independent and healthy as possible as I age minimizing the time I will need my loved ones to assist me. These are a few of my most important goals that I will be taking with me into 2025. Are any of these are your top 5?

These are fantastic goals! I keep an eye on these areas too. I’ve even started making my own bone broth, which has been working really well for me (though I know you’re vegetarian, so that might not be your thing). I’ve also been cutting back on alcohol—still a work in progress, but I’m aiming to save it for special occasions only!

Cutting back on alcohol is good for all of us! Ironically, I recently started using some bone broth and may have changed my mind about that

I wish my sleep was better! My daughter has been waking up every night for the past month and I am really ready to get a full night’s sleep again. I am always good about drinking water but I would like to focus on getting more protetin.
Deborah Brooks says
It is definitely more challenging to get a good night’s sleep when you have young kids. Eating more protein is key for me!

These are great habits. I could stand to improve on all of them—Scooby gets me walking every day at least.
Deborah Brooks says
that is a good habit!

My goal this year is to continue more of what worked for me in 2024: strength training twice weekly, two days per week of trail running and 1 day of pavement running, and pool running once weekly. I need to lean into yoga/stretching more often. I’m struggling with my expanding waistline and need to figure that out. I’m sure it would help if I gave up alcohol, for now, I’m going to cut back and see how that works. I do enjoy a glass of wine!
Deborah Brooks says
I am also leaning into what works for me. Reducing alcohol definitely makes me feel better too.

These are all great habits. I’m great with daily walking, less great with the protein, water, and sleep. I’m definitely working on making strides in those directions. I hope you have an awesome new year!

Sleep is really a magic super power for wellness in my opinion but harder when you have kids at hone with activities
