Thanks for joining Kim and me for the weekly run down today. While January seemed like the longest month ever, February seems to be flying by in a blink. We are more than halfway through the month already. Take a peek inside my week of fitness.
Flying through February
Monday- upper body strength + core + stretch
I had a minor freak out when I woke up Sunday morning with some weird pain on the inside of both of my knees. After some high level consults with some of my runner friends (who need actual medical professionals when you have running friends?!), we determined that my weird achiness was from wearing new cowboy boors when I went ax throwing the day before. I was able to do my 10 mile run Sunday with no pain or discomfort. So, Monday I ditched the lower body strength and cycle and kept it low impact.
My knees were both feeling much better by that evening. We did enjoy a low key Valentine’s Day at home. My hubs made me homemade pizza (my favorite treat) and we enjoyed that amazing cake I showed you last week.
Tuesday- 6 mile run + stretch + core
My knees are almost 100% again. That was so weird! It was a really chilly morning but the sun was shining. My run plan called for an endurance run today.
Wednesday- full body strength + core + stretch
A little bit of everything today for my Wednesday workout.
Thursday- 6 mile tempo run + stretch
I have come to really enjoy these weekly tempo runs. Today’s workout had ladder-style speed intervals from 1 minute to 7 minutes. It was spicy! I feel so much stronger on my runs.
Friday- upper + lower body strength + core + cycle + stretch + yoga
Another day of fitting it all in. I ended my workout with a short yoga class. I really don’t take the time to incorporate yoga into my schedule enough and I am always so grateful when I do. While I do stretch classes daily, there is something different about yoga. I mentioned this on IG and it seems like a lot of us are in this same mindset. Why is it so hard to include yoga?
Saturday- Rest day and stretch
Weekly rest day with a Peloton stretch class.
Sunday- on the plan 11-mile run
My Asheville half is now 4 weeks away. I have 11 miles on my training plan today. Thankfully, I have a few friends who are willing to run with me which always helps.
Thanks for linking up! Feel like February is flying by?
Wendy says
I guess that means no more boot scootin’ boogie for you! Seriously, new shoes or boots are so dicey. I’m glad you were able to run through it. Your arms weren’t sore from throwing those axes?
Deborah Brooks says
New shoes are dicey! It was a weird thing for sure. No, arms were not sore they are actually not heavy just awkward. I would definitely try it again
Darlene says
Glad to hear your knee is feeling better.
And yes. Running friends are the best. I couldnโt do my long runs without them.
Almost ready to taper.
Deborah Brooks says
No, long runs would be so boring without them! Yes, almost ready to taper!
Chocolaterunsjudy says
I really hate tempos but they sure do work!
Yoga connects mind, body, and spirit — that’s why it’s different from simply stretching! Obviously I don’t have trouble getting it in, but that doesn’t mean that sometimes I have trouble fitting it in!
It seems as we get older, odd pains come and go — happy that yours was gone so quickly!
Deborah Brooks says
Yes, I do have trouble fitting it in and letting myself go to enjoy it!
Kimberly Hatting says
I was so honored to be part of your medical consult team last weekโฆglad our boot diagnosis was successful ๐ Sounds like your training plan, for your half, has been a huge success! Excited to see you crush Asheville!!
Deborah Brooks says
Thanks again for advice last week. Darn those boots! Yes, I really am enjoying my training plan. Almost there!
Coco says
Wow, 11 miles! Your training is going so well. Iโm glad the boots were the root of the problem! I have the same issue with yoga – itโs so hard to start but I never regret it!
Deborah Brooks says
Yes, darn those super cute boots! Will have to. break them in slowly. Yes, I hear you on the yoga
Marcia says
Oh I’m glad the boot pain resolved itself and didn’t impact your run. It’s great to hear tempo runs are growing on you. Honestly quality work will improve your running SO much!
Deborah Brooks says
I have not really ever trained like this before (have no idea why) but I figured it was the right time for me to try
Debbie @ Deb Runs says
Our bodies certainly don’t like change do they? And how great that what caused your knee pain was quickly diagnosed by friends. Will you wear those boots again? Perhaps if you wear them more frequently your body will get used to them OR for not as long when you do wear them?
Hope your 11-mile run is going well!
Hope you have a great week!
Deborah Brooks says
I have never had an issue like that before from shoes. I will try wearing them again for a shorter time to break them in. After my race ๐
Jenny says
Phew- i’m glad your knees are better. it would be confusing to have to explain to people that you have an ax throwing injury.
i agree there’s something about yoga that just makes my whole being feel good- it’s hard to explain it though.
And, yes- February is flying by! It makes up for the slog of January. Hope you had a good run today!
Deborah Brooks says
I have done yoga challenges before where I really got into it for a time. It absolutely feels good afterward. I am just having a hard time fitting it in right now
Cari says
February is the anti January. I can’t believe we’re three weeks in and not remotely complaining.
Love your scrunchy game. I don’t think I notice those on IG as much as the desktop.
So glad your training is going well and that following up w Peloton got you into the class. So glad to be part of the knee consult team!
Deborah Brooks says
Yes, I did appreciate you all talking me off the ledge with the weird knee situation. I am loving the program hope they have something for us to move into afterward. Also loving the scrunchies that stay in while running ๐
Michelle says
Happy to hear the collective knee consult paid off ๐
I can’t believe Asheville is just 4 weeks away – sounds like your training is going really well!
Deborah Brooks says
yes great consult! I will return to you all! ๐ I know race day is quickly approaching
Jessie says
Glad the knee pain resolved quickly! I will always value comfort over style when it comes to shoes. I got a neuroma on my toe from wearing heels for too long at work with a standing desk. No heels for me at all esp. very limited occasions. Running is too important to me!
Love the blue outfit for your run, but that Sweaty Betty top is toasty, isn’t it? I wore it as my base layer snowboarding and it was perfect.
Deborah Brooks says
Yes, I cannot wear heels at all anymore! Yes the blue top is warm it was in the teens that morning so it was perfect. I only get to wear it a few times a year around here
Melissa says
Who would’ve thought that boots could cause so much trouble? Great work on that double digit run!
Deborah Brooks says
I was surprised it was the boots but happy it quickly went away
Kim G says
I was glad that the knee pain was short lived. It’s amazing how just wearing a pair of shoes/boots for a few hours can cause pain.
You killed it with your workouts and workout fashion this week – as usual!
Deborah Brooks says
I know crazy with the boots! Thanks Kim ๐
Liz Dexter says
Hope your 11-miler went well! I managed to scrape out 9 miles on Sunday for the second week in a row – still waiting to hear if I got into London Marathon so I am panic-long-running in case I have!
Deborah Brooks says
ha ha on the panic running! I really hope you get in!
Jenn says
You know, I started wearing new shoes after my half (casual shoes). Wouldn’t it be crazy if that was the same reason for my wonky knee? I’m going to experiment by switching back.
February is FLYING. I can’t believe how long January dragged and now this.
I can’t wait to hear about Asheville!
Deborah Brooks says
I was surprised the shoes messed up my knees!
Lisa @ says
Great job on the workouts last week! That’s so fun to have a new friend join you on a long run – so much to chat about! Hope the 11 miler went well. February does fly by so fast. Not that it’s a bad thing! ๐
Deborah Brooks says
It is always great to have new friends to chat with on long runs
Shathiso says
Sounds like your runner friends were 100% spot on with their diagnosis! Glad it was nothing serious and quickly resolved itself!
Deborah Brooks says
Yes, me too!~ How weird though
