Thanks for joining Coco and me for the February Ultimate Coffee Date. These are always some of our favorite posts to write and read. The only thing better than an actual coffee date is a virtual one. Make mine extra hot because it’s beyond freezing out there! Grab your mugs and join us! I’ve also got a fun February giveaway read on for details.
February Ultimate Coffee Date
If we were having coffee, I would tell you…I was rushing around to grab a few necessities in the store the other day and I realized right as I was getting into the check out line that I had picked up Decaf coffee by accident! Crisis averted but can you imagine?
If we were having coffee, I would tell you…I heard the craziest term for a new fad the other day: “Exercise Snacking”. I got all excited for a second when I thought someone was going to tell us that snacking was now a form of exercise. I am already a pro at that! But nope, exercise snacking is a term for doing small bursts of exercise like 30 seconds of jumping jacks in your office. Apparently taking the stairs instead of the elevator is now considered exercise. These small “bites” of exercise are thought to help ward off diseases from sitting too much. Hmmm…
If we were having coffee, I would tell you…I am excited for my first race of 2019 tomorrow. Although it’s freezing and I am feeling a bit underprepared for the hills, I know it will be lots of fun to do the For The Love 10K again. Two years ago, I met the other Deb in person at this race. We even got to share a real coffee date afterwards. Love it when that happens.
If we were having coffee, I would tell you…I have a fun giveaway! We runners do creative ways to show off and reminisce on our running accomplishments and these Kudos coasters are a new way to do it. Simply, pick a medal that you would like to show off and insert it into the coaster with a colored back round of choice. There are 6 colors to choose from. Display your favorite medal for motivation. Switch it out as often as you’d like. I have one to give away to one of you. I am currently displaying my Cherry Blossom medal from a few years back. That is my next big race!
If we were having a February Ultimate Coffee Date in person, what would you tell me? What would you display in your Kudos Coaster?
Farrah says
I got all excited when I read “exercise snacking” too, haha. It’s a good concept though for sure! I definitely do that as much as I can when I’m working super long hours at the hospital!
I only have one medal since the other race I ran gave me a Tiffany’s necklace, so I’d put the one from the Rutgers 8K that I ran last year in it! :] Thanks for the giveaway!
Deborah Brooks says
Well the Tiffany necklace is a keeper! Exercise snacking lol thanks for joining in on the coffee date
jan pryor says
I have never posted, but I always look forward to the coffee date each month. My daughter just finished the Houston marathon with a huge PR. The coaster would be for her; love this idea.
Deborah Brooks says
Thanks for following along with the blog posts and the coffee dates. The coasters would make a great gift for your daughter thanks for entering
[email protected] says
Good luck in your race! and finding out what exercise snacking is was a disappointment, lol!
Deborah Brooks says
ha ha is sure was disappointing!
Kimberly Hatting says
Well, I for one, always take the stairs and challenge anyone who scoffs at the quality of exercise it is LOL (I usually do more than one flight at a time, though). Good luck at your race tomorrow! Are you guys just getting the worst of the cold now? It’s finally mellowing out in Iowa, and I’m looking forward to hitting the streets 😉 Happy February 😉
Deborah Brooks says
I know you are a stairs queen! Yes today should be the worst of the weather for us. It’s actually snowing again!
Marcia says
That’s a fun way to display medals! Love that CB one too. .Have a great race tomorrow! I hope it’s not too cold. It feels tropical here this morning at 6 degrees, although now we’re getting snow.
Deborah Brooks says
It will still be a little cold tomorrow morning and then we get a nice warmup!
steph says
I’d love to set a goal race and use the coaster for that medal.
Deborah Brooks says
It’s fun to have as a great reminder! Thanks for entering
Judy @ Chocolaterunsjudy says
That is such an awesome medal & a nice way to display it!
I guess I’ve been exercise snacking for a while (although never heard the term). I’m a firm believer that those little “snacks” can make a huge difference.
Deborah Brooks says
I definitely think small bursts of exercise add up. I think it’s funny the term they used to describe it though. Thanks for stopping in for coffee
Wendy says
Since I’ve been stuck inside all week, I’ve been doing a lot of reading and I just read about exercise snacking! Who knew it was a thing? I feel like I have been doing this all along. Because I can never sit still.
Thanks for coffee! Thank goodness you didn’t get the decaf.
Deborah Brooks says
Yes I think lots of us do the “exercise snacking” thing but it sure is an odd phrase to coin in. Thanks for stopping in!
MCM Mama Runs says
Exercise snacking is definitely an interesting term, but I’m fully on board with the concept of moving more during the day. It’s a great reminder to get up and move more when you are working. Luckily, I’m a little distractible, so I tend not to sit for more than 15 minutes or so before I end up jumping up to do something unrelated to the work I’m trying to accomplish LOL.
If my kids ever have a week of school, we should meet for coffee IRL!
Deborah Brooks says
It’s crazy how much school the kids have missed in the past few weeks! Yes would love to get together soon we are long over due
Beth says
Marine Corp Marathon 2016.
Best race ever for many reasons
Deborah Brooks says
I bet it was! Would be perfect to display in the coaster
Maureen @ Maureen Gets Real says
Exercise snacking is interesting…I think it’s helpful with the built up affect if you work long hours and extra movement is good for all of us. It shouldn’t be someone only form of exercise in my opinion though.
Those coasters are so cute! They would make a great gift.
Deborah Brooks says
It is a funny term to use! Yes the coasters would be a great gift
Michelle @ Running with Attitude says
What a cute way to display a medal!
Good luck with your race tomorrow! Are the streets there clear? We’ve still got a lot of ice, but I’m hoping to hit the roads tomorrow.
Thanks for coffee 🙂
Deborah Brooks says
Well it’s currently snowing….yes the coasters are cute thanks for checking them out
Lori Mayer says
I’m hoping it warms up for my first race of the year next weekend.
Deborah Brooks says
I hope it does too! It’s snowing here right now
Erica @ Erica Finds says
I saw exercise snacking, too and was like “now there’s something I can get behind.” Until I realized there was no food in it. LOL. I do like to walk and take stairs and get some movement, etc. during the day. It’s a great idea – just a funny name.
Good luck in your race. I ran two half marathons in January. That may be a first for me!
Deborah Brooks says
Yes that was exactly my thought! You did crush it this January nice job
Jenn says
I think I might prefer snacking while exercising, rather than short bursts of fitness, but hey. Toe-may-toe, toe-mah-toe.
So excited to hear about your first race of the year! It’s going to be great.
Love those coasters! I have so many fabulous medals, and it would be so cool to see them in coaster form!
Deborah Brooks says
Yes the snacking thing I don’t know! The coasters are cute thanks for entering
Becca | Rabbit Food Runner says
I’m skeptical of the “snacking” idea. Why has society shifted so much that we need to seek out ways to move more?
Deborah Brooks says
It kind of rubbed me the wrong way as well!
Laurie says
Good luck on your 10k tomorrow! Bundle up, it’s cold out there. We just finished driving home from Florida today and I already want to turn around and go back. An unexpected snowstorm kept traffic crawling all the way from DC to PA!
Deborah Brooks says
It was quite chilly out there this morning!
Denise @ runheartfit says
Decaf doesn’t make any sense to me. What’s the point, really?
Exercise snacking? Imagine getting up once in a while and moving is actually good for you. Who knew? Lol.
Good luck on your race!
Deborah Brooks says
I thought the term exercise snacking was a little silly myself! Decaf? Why?! Thanks for stopping in
Chaitali says
Exercise snacking, that’s a new one! At least now I’ll know what it means when I hear someone say it :). I would have thought it dealt with food too.
Deborah Brooks says
I was kind of hoping it did! 🙂
Debbie @ Deb Runs says
Awww, I loved having a real coffee date with you after that race. I think I told you that I’d actually considered running it again this year and then my injury happened…
That Cherry Blossom medal is gorgeous! Back when I used to run the race, they didn’t give out medals.
Thanks for the linkup!
Deborah Brooks says
I know I thought about you today and was hoping that you were not too upset about not being able to run it again. We will just have to plan another coffee date soon! They do have nice medals now for cherry blossom.
Cari says
Good luck with your 10K! I have one tomorrow too, and glad the weather has improved somewhat. But it’s living up to its “frozen penguin” name. I love the Cherry Blossom medal you’re using in the display – way better than 2018’s which was a little too gaudy for my liking.
Too funny re: other Deb. I think you two, the two Kims and any other doubles need to do a name relay.
Deborah Brooks says
Well hope you stayed warm this morning! It was a balmy 11 degrees at the start line
Cari says
Downright tropical 19 here with a wind chill of 12. In the words of the wonderful Grumpy Old Men soundtrack: we’re having a heat wave, a tropical heat wave.
Deborah Brooks says
Seriously I know! This week looks a lot better though!
Coco says
OMG, I hope you are bundled up today! It’s still in the teens here! I haven’t heard the term “exercise snacking” before, but I should try it. Thursday I was glued to my desk from 3 to 8 pm trying to finish something. Ugh.
Deborah Brooks says
Well it was a balmy 11 degrees at the start! Those hills out there ugh
Janelle @ Run With No Regrets says
I hope you have a great race! Thankfully after today, the weather is going to warm up significantly!
I love the medal display…there are definitely some medals that I have that I don’t have room to hang that would make great coasters – mostly RNR virtual medals!
Deborah Brooks says
Yes we are expecting a big warm up after today as well!
Jenny says
Hmm, well I would definitely be switching medals in and out, but I guess right now I would put in the medal from our turkey trot last November, where I WON MY AGE GROUP! (That definitely gets easier the older you get, ha ha!)
Deborah Brooks says
Well that is a fantastic idea! congrats on the age group win something to show off for sure
Cassandra D says
I would put the medal that I won in a race.
