It’s that time again! The last Friday of month brings out all the February Runfessions. These are always some of the most fun posts to write and read. So let’s get right to it shall we?
February Runfessions
I Runfess…
I was worried about upping my mileage for the Cherry Blossom 10 miler because I have been so injury prone the last few years. Knock on wood because so far so good. I have been really good about sticking to my plan and not running extra miles because I feel good that day. I know having a conservative approach will hopefully allow me to increase my mileage without developing any over use injuries.
I Runfess…
I am loving my new combo of running followed by yoga an hour later. For the last few weeks, I’ve been able to swing this and I really think it’s helping me quite a bit. I also Runfess I am way more tight and inflexible than I thought I was!
I Runfess…
I have not really been biking much at all. I have been focusing more on running, strength training and yoga the past few months. I did sign up for a tri race in early May so I guess eventually I need to get on my bike. I just don’t get motivated to do so in the winter time.
I Runfess…
That little taste of summer we had this week reminded me how much I hate to run in the summer humidity. I know first we complain about it being too cold and then we complain about it being too hot. How do people deal with runners? ha It was nice not to have to wear hats and gloves for a few days but 80 degrees in February just does not seem right does it? My idea running temps would be 45-50. Just cool enough to not wear multiple layers.
What do you have to share for February Runfessions? What’s your ideal run temp?

I”m thinking all that cross training you’re doing is going to help you stay injury free! Fingers crossed!
Deborah Brooks says
I think it is too. I just need to keep it up
Maureen @ Maureen Gets Real says
50 degrees is the perfect running weather I think. You can wear a short sleeve shirt and be okay or you can wear a long sleeve. It’s just the best!
Deborah Brooks says
Yes I agree!
Kim G says
So glad that your training is going well for the Cherry Blossom 10 miler!
I was also not too happy with the sudden burst of summer this week. It just reminds me of what we have to look forward to when summer rolls around – ugh!
Deborah Brooks says
Yes that summer humidity will soon be here
Marcia says
I cannot believe you guys had 80 degrees! That’s insane. I celebrate when it hits 50 here. I can’t even remember the last time I rode my bike or hit up a spin class. Sheesh. Thanks for linking!
Deborah Brooks says
Yes my first tri is May 5 I need to get on it at some point.
Debbie says
Our whole winter (until this week) has been crazy hot. High 80s, sometimes 90. Everyone just laughs when I complain, but when you know in just a few months we’ll be in the triple digits, I earn my right to complain. Still, it is better than negative anything!
Deborah Brooks says
Triple digits is just exhausting even when you are used to it
Coco says
I’m so glad your Cherry Blossom training is going well! I am finally optimistic about getting rid of this PF ….
Deborah Brooks says
Woo hoo so glad to hear
Erinn says
I hate the summer humidity too! I run so much better once the temperatures start to drop in the fall! Not looking forward to summer running?
Deborah Brooks says
Yes me too. I am feeling good now and then when summer hits I kind of lose it
Lacey@fairytalesandfitness says
We had 70 degree weather here this week and it was lovely. I could take that everyday.
Deborah Brooks says
I like it for life but not for running 🙂
Farrah says
Yoga followed by running sounds like an awesome idea! I need to do more yoga–I feel like I’ve been getting super inflexible.
I definitely enjoyed those 2 days of nice weather too–it’d be nice if spring decided to show up early! *-*
Deborah Brooks says
I am much more inflexible than I realized!
Judy @ Chocolaterunsjudy says
45-50 is ideal for me, too, although I enjoy warmer temps when it’s not humid. And we tend to have low humidity most of the time. Humidity sucks.
It’s so hard to get everything in even when you’re not a triathlete!
I worried about more mileage last year, too, but it worked out well. 🙂
Deborah Brooks says
It is so hard to fit everything into a week! I am going to have to continue to work on balance
Jennifer @ Fit Nana says
I’m with you on ideal running temperatures! Especially for races. But, alas, that’s not how life works. haha It’s been so humid down here over the past couple of days. I had hill repeats yesterday and I have to do them on the treadmill because there just aren’t enough hills around here and I was INSIDE with the treadmill fan blowing on high and I still managed to look like I had been outside in the humidity. haha That said, I can’t wait to complain more regularly about running in the warmer weather. 😉
Deborah Brooks says
ha ha yes right back at you!
[email protected] says
I loved the warmer break in weather as well. I actually love running in the heat so Im looking forward to summer. Its the cold I can’t take, hurts my ears and gives me a headache no matter what I wear on my head.
Deborah Brooks says
That’s interesting! It’s the summer humidity that really drains me
Darlene says
I think to not getting injured is keeping the mileage low but high enough to be prepared to race.
At least, that has worked for me.
GL in your tri. I have enough problems with ONE sport.
Deborah Brooks says
That is my plan mileage wise as well. Oh 3 sports is hard to manage for sure
Chelsea says
Summer humidity is the WORST!!! I’d rather be bundled up in the cold for sure because when the temps get that hot, it’s not fun to do ANYTHING!!
Yoga is a total life saver for me! It’s so nice to unwind and de-stress!
Deborah Brooks says
Yes I totally agree for sure!
Michelle @ Running with Attitude says
I so agree on the ideal temps of 45 – 50 – we runners are tough to please 😉
Hopefully, all of the cross-training you’re doing will pay off as you keep increasing your mileage.
Deborah Brooks says
We can be tough to please can’t we?!
Kimberly Hatting says
I agree that 45-50 are ideal temps (in the winter LOL), but I’m a summer gal. 😉 Bring on the heat!!
Deborah Brooks says
I look forward to complaining about the humidity!
Lesley says
I’ve been doing yoga too, each night, and I like the routine. I do have to make sure I’m foam rolling, but getting in some deep stretching at the end of the day feels really good.
Deborah Brooks says
It really does I just have to remember to keep it up
Rachel says
We are so opposite with the weather. That taste of summer was amazing and I can’t wait for more!!
Deborah Brooks says
It’s the humidity that kills me every summer
Sara says
Great job with your workouts! It seems as though you have found your sweet spot balancing intensity with cross training. I need to get more yoga and stretching in to my routine!
Deborah Brooks says
I think I have but I just need to keep it up!
Teresa says
I agree with you on not being motivated to bike until summer and I’m also in agreement on these 80 degree temps in February …just too early for that. Give me the 50 degrees for at least a month or two then ease us into the warmer temps!!!
You and your running friends have so much fun …I just love seeing all of your playful pics!
Deborah Brooks says
OH thanks we do have a fun bunch!
Zenaida Arroyo says
I’ve been complaining about the cold winter and for sure will be complaining about the hot weather. People do get annoyed with runners. 🙂
Deborah Brooks says
ha we can be a hard bunch to please
Akaleistar says
I wouldn’t mind February being a little warmer than what it’s been, but 80 degrees in February is a little much, ha ha.
Deborah Brooks says
I know kind of crazy this year!
Lisa @ Mile by Mile says
Thats so great that you’ve been able to train without any injuries! I like the idea of running and then yoga later but I feel like I don’t have time for more than one workout a day anymore. I used to sometimes go to yoga in the evenings after running in the morning and I felt like that was really helpful.
Deborah Brooks says
Yes I think doing yoga is a great compliment to running and I also think it doesn’t have to be right afterwards. I ran this morning and will try to go to yoga later this afternoon
Esther says
Great job with your training! I did the Cherry Blossom race a few years ago and it was so fun and beautiful!
I am that crazy girl who would rather run in heat/humidity than the cold. I guess that is why I left Chicago and moved to Houston!
Deborah Brooks says
ha ha. To each his own weather wise! I used to love summer running and then last year everything changed
Shannon @GirlsGotSole says
I agree about the temp issue. We don’t like it too cold, nor do we like it too hot. I wish we had low humidty with temps in the upper 60s or 70s more.
Deborah Brooks says
Well that would be nice too!
