Thanks for joining the February Ultimate Coffee Date with me and Coco. I am on a quick trip to Miami, so I am joining you from FLA today. Grab your coffee mugs and let’s chat.

February 2023 Ultimate Coffee Date

February Ultimate Coffee Date

If we were having coffee, I would tell you…

I am spending the weekend in Miami visiting some friends of ours. Would you be surprised to hear that I am already stressing about running in the Miami heat. Yes, I know it’s great to be in the warm Florida sun for a few days. Maybe just not when I am running. 😂 You all know how much I hate summer running!

If we were having coffee, I would tell you…

I had a blast being interviewed on the Clip Out Podcast last week. We chatted all things Peloton and running with the 2 fabulous and funny co-hosts Crystal and Tom. As a Peloton super fan since 2018, this was pretty exciting. The episode comes out today here is the link https://www.theclipout.com/295-leanne-hainsby-reveals-cancer-battle-plus-our-interview-with-deborah-brooks/

If we were having coffee, I would tell you…

This week is a cut back week in my Team Wilpers Half Marathon program. While many runners might enjoy having a reduction in mileage and intensity this week, it makes me kind of anxious. I feel like I am on a roll with training and want to keep up the intensity. My race is in 6 weeks and I feel like I have a long way to go to get where I want to be. Nevertheless, I completely understand the point of a cutback week to allow my body to adapt to the training load so far. That does not mean I have to like it! Crazy? Maybe! 🤔

Your turn! If we were having coffee, what would you tell me?

About Deborah Brooks

Hi I'm Deborah! I spend my days successfully raising a husband & 2 teens in the VA/DC area. I am a lover of all things running & fitness. As a life long vegetarian, I've always been passionate about healthy living & exercise. Looking for partners in crime, I started my own chapter of Moms Run This Town (MRTT) which has grown to over 700 members. I've met so many amazing women who inspire me daily to keep moving forward. You can usually find me running with my crew and training for the next crazy adventure they talked me into. I love to keep up to date on new running & fitness trends. I definitely choose my running gear based on color and love to express my fashion sense while exercising.

Have fun in Miami! I’m looking forward to warmer weather, but not the high temperatures. The older I get, the easier I tolerate running in the heat, though.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      02/03/2023 at 10:02 am

funny, I am the opposite with the heat. I used to love it when I was younger.

  9. Coco says

I can’t wait to hear you on the ClipOut!

Enjoy your time in Miami. I hear it’s pretty cold back home.

It is nice to get away for a few days. I def missed our cold spell at home! Let me know what you think of the clip out

Be glad that the cutback coincides with the Miami heat. You know I’m with you about running in the heat. I have the same tidbit in my blog post today!

Enjoy the sun and soak up that Vitamin D!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      02/03/2023 at 5:22 pm

I know we both hate running in the heat! 🙂 I will also be in Chicago in a few months so maybe we can get a run in

  11. Jenny says

    02/03/2023 at 11:20 am

I was just about to say the exact thing Erica said above- I think this is a good week for you to have a cutback. It’s supposed to get up to 87 today, UGH! The next couple days look a little nicer (i.e. cooler) but there’s also rain forecast so we’ll see. I hope you have fun in spite of the heat! I’m sorry I won’t be seeing you- we’ll make it happen next time.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      02/03/2023 at 5:23 pm

we will definitely make it happen next time!

I love running in the heat! It’s my secret weapon! It’s one of the few times I can compete. Michigan folks don’t tolerate heat at all and I acclimate to heat like nobody’s business. I attribute that to my Florida upbringing and my cheapo parents never running AC. I still remember dying with a tiny box fan in the sweltering heat, but hey what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger? Or so they say.

Oh, the more I read these coffee chats, the more I miss running. Embrace the cutback. Just remind yourself it’s helping you become stronger. I am horrible about overtraining and this is one thing I am really planning to work on when I am able to resume running again.

Have a great weekend and thanks for the chat! This has seriously been fun! Next week I return to work so I’m not sure I’ll be able to get to as many coffee dates as this week, but we shall see.

I am glad you thought this was fun! The heat is my nemesis but yes, what does not kill you makes you stronger!

yeah coffee, love coffee…expect, well, after an evening run Wednesday, we stopped for coffee, a latte that tasted so good with almond flavor…….and, well, didn’t fall asleep until sometime Thursday….oops.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      02/04/2023 at 9:06 am

Ha ha yes, I might not have a coffee late at night! Happy weekend to you

Enjoy your time in Miami!! I don’t love working out in the heat either so I hear you on that.

Thankfully it is not too hot this weekend

Have lots of fun in Miami + enjoy that sunshine! :]

    • Deborah Brooks says

      02/05/2023 at 8:30 am

Thanks! Let me know if you give it a listen

  16. Zenaida Arroyo says

    02/06/2023 at 6:38 am

I somewhat understand the feeling. I didn’t do any running last week due to the weather. Now I am wondering if I will be ready for the race next month. I hope you had a great time in Miami! Would love to go there again one day.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      02/06/2023 at 3:07 pm

What helps me is to remind myself that I am stronger than I think I am and I am not going to let any weather get in my way of training for my goals.
