Thanks for joining Kim and me for the weekly run down. This week, we took a few days to head down and enjoy some Miami heat with some friends. Here is a peek into my week of fitness and fun.
Miami Heat
Monday- core + barre +upper body split + Peloton cycle + stretch
I do love to hit it hard on a Monday! I’m back to JJ’s split strength classes again this week. After indecisively looking at the classes, I just decided to take them again this week.
Our photos came back from the Aruba beach photo shoot my daughter and I did together. It was really an experience to remember. You can see them all on my IG but here are a few of my faves.
Tuesday-4.5 mile run + stretching
This week is a cut-back week in my half-marathon training program. Admittedly, it makes me kind of anxious but I am rolling with it. It was another rainy run today. Seriously, I cannot remember having so many rainy days in one month! It’s a definite mental strengthening technique. It has rained for every one of my Tuesday runs this month! However, I kind of think I deserve a perfect race day in March.
Wednesday-mobility + core + upper body pull + Peloton cycle and stretch
A good solid all around workout today. I did JJ’s pull day which was biceps and back. Feeling good!
Thursday- 4-mile run + stretching
An easy 4 miles this morning (per my plan) and a quick stretch before heading to the airport. Miami is a pretty quick flight from DC. Winter finally made an appearance today, so it looks like a good weekend to get away.
Friday- Peloton strength + core + barre
A short but good lower body strength in the gym in Miami. I am loving the split strength classes. Then, we headed over to South Beach to soak up the views and a little sun.
Saturday rest day with Peloton stretch and mobility
It was a little rainy and overcast today but still nice to be in a warmer place. We slept in and went out to lunch. My friends have a Normatec system and let me just say, I am going to need one of these.Felt just amazing.
Sunday-on my plan 6-8 mile run
I will be heading out for a run in Miami this morning and remembering that it is a cut back week in my training.
We enjoyed our mini weekend getaway here in Miami! Thanks for joining.

Props to you for getting out on all those rainy runs. They are character builders for sure! Omg the Aruba pics are so fun! What a cool thing to do with your daughter. I’m sure you’ll both smile every time you look at them! Enjoy Miami!

The rain seems to follow me as it is currently not so nice in Miami! character building for sure
Darlene S. Cardillo says
I hope those warm temps last until I get there. Enjoy.
Those Aruba pix are amazing.
I used normatech boots after my marathon. I think they helped.
Deborah Brooks says
I hope you have better Florida weather than I do!
Kimberly Hatting says
Solid cut-back week, Deborah! Even though the mileage was scaled-back, you kept consistent with strength work #thumbsUP! I love those Aruba pics!
Deborah Brooks says
yes, I did feel good about cutting back a touch and keeping moving
Wendy says
Lucky you, getting away to Miami! Crazy that you were getting all that rain in DC. The weather this winter has certainly been crazy.
I just love those Aruba photos–the colors of those dresses, oh my!
Coco says
You definitely picked a good weekend to head south. It was 14F when I landed at Dulles yesterday morning!
Those photos from Aruba are amazing!!! Love your bathing suit from Miami too!
Deborah Brooks says
It was really nice on Friday but then rained the entire weekend. I guess it just follows me
Debbie says
What a fun thing to do with your daughter in Aruba! Hope that you’re having a blast in Miami, and yes, you picked a good weekend to be away with the cold temps here.
How crazy that it rained every Tuesday in January, but I’m here as a witness that it truly happened!
Deborah Brooks says
Oh and I obviously brought it with me bc it rained the entire weekend in Miami. Seriously, cannot catch a break
Jenny says
On behalf of all Floridians, I apologize for our weather today! Geez, we just can’t get it right- either it’s 87 degrees or it’s raining. This is probably better weather for your longer run though.
Those pictures from Aruba are stunning!!! And look at you, Ms. Muscles, in your swimsuit! Working out really pays off.
Deborah Brooks says
ha thanks and yes, the weather did not cooperate for us this weekend at all
Susanne says
How nice for you to get some warm sunny weather! The photos of you and your daughter are super! Perfect dress colours for that environment. I hope you get a good run today.

I do wish somewhere warm was a quick flight from here.
Very nice to have access to those Normatec boots!
Deborah Brooks says
I loved the boots and now I really want a pair!
Jessie says
I forgot about that Sweaty Betty top! I have the same one, but it looks way better on you 🙂
have a great time in Miami!
Deborah Brooks says
ha ha thanks I do love that top and it has not been cold enough to wear it until this week
San says
Those pictures from Aruba are stunning! How did you come up with the idea for this particular shoot?
I love that you went from cold and rainy to sunny and hot this week LOL
Deborah Brooks says
There is a company in Aruba that just does these dress shoots and since we go there every Christmas we had heard about it. They give you the dresses for the shoots its really fun
San says
So cool!

Deborah Brooks says
thanks and yes, it was mentally a struggle but it’s done!
Catrina says
Ah, the Aruba photos!! They are fantastic, Deborah!
I also like the photo of you in the swimwear – yep, those workouts really pay off! Very inspiring.
Enjoy Miami!
Deborah Brooks says
ah thanks Cat! You are so sweet

Well it seems if you are in Miami, that’d be a good week for a cutback to me. I don’t actually hate running in the rain as long as it’s not cold rain. I actually have a whole playlist filled with rain themed music – I Love a Rainy Night, Here Comes the Rain Again, … I’d have to pull it up to get all of them.
That Normatec system looks kind of like the Game Ready’s we used to use at work. I actually used one post surgery and it helped. Not sure that they are the same. I”ll have to look it up. Game Ready’s are ice plus compression if you want it.
Deborah Brooks says
My weekend in Miami turned out to be a great cutback week. I do lots of rainy runs here and don’t mind them too much. It was lightning and thundering in Miami so, unfortunately, a no go.
Jenn says
That photo shoot was stunning! I love flowing gowns in pictures! Amazing!
I hope you had a good time in Miami, even if it was rainy!
Deborah Brooks says
The flowy gowns were so much fun! I know you would love them
Shathiso says
That photoshoot with your daughter! Wow!!! Those flowing dresses! I haven’t had a family shoot in forever and this just made me want to get one done this year! Glad you got a “summer” break in Miami!
Deborah Brooks says
I highly recommend it!
Liz Dexter says
How lovely to get away to the warm! We’ve just booked some time in Spain in March and I can’t wait, even though it’s obv not as cold here as it is there. Those Aruba pics are fun!
I’ve got a sore hamstring and haven’t been running, I have seen a physio and have the bruises to prove it but not as bad as I’d feared …
Deborah Brooks says
Just when you are feeling good ugh hope that hammy heals quickly. Have an amazing time in Spain!!
Cari says
One of the best things about marathon weekend is the Normatec pop ups everywhere. We may even luck out with the Half having them.
Love the top pic of you with your daughter, might have missed that one on IG. Such a fun idea
Great way to frame rain runs as mental strenghtening
Deborah Brooks says
I am hoping for a great Normatec sale at some point! They were so nice 🙂
