Thanks for joining Kim and me for the weekly run down. This week was busy-in a good way! We had the excitement of the eclipse followed by some very intentional rest and recovery after the Cherry Blossom. Mid week there were a few laughs. Here’s a peek into my week!
Eclipse, Recovery & A Few Laughs Weekly Run Down
Sunday-Cherry Blossom 10 miler + stretch
I could not be more thankful to be back running my favorite hometown race. My legs were toast as I am not so accustom to running this distance the past year. My son’s girlfriend also ran the race and he greeted us both at the finish line.
Monday- 3 mile walk + stretches and eclipse viewing
A true recovery day for me. It was a gorgeous morning for a walk with a friend. Later, I am ready to catch a glimpse of the eclipse.
Later, I hosted a work dinner for my husband at our house. Not exactly “rest” but it was very successful. My head couldn’t wait to hit my pillow!
Tuesday- 3 mile walk + Peloton cycle + core
Still in active rest mode. I opted to sleep in after a late night and take a low impact day. Later, I was very thankful that I had scheduled a post race deep tissue massage. I do love my massage therapist and appreciate him very much.
Wednesday-30 min Peloton walk + core + Glutes/Legs strength + 30 min walk
I restarted the 4 week Glutes and Legs program with Adrian on Peloton that I finished in January. That workout was sandwiched between two 30 min walk classes. It was into the mid-70’s today and getting in an outdoor walk was necessary. I think I am finally recovered from the last few days.
Thursday-3.5 m run + core + stretch
Continuing my recovery mode with a shorter run today followed by core and stretch. Grab your running buddy and try this post run stretch.

Later, my son was my last minute stand in for my traveling husband. We saw a great comedian at The Kennedy Center in DC. We had a fun dinner with friends at the Rooftop restaurant before the show. This is a photo from a post show meet and greet.
Friday-Peloton walk + core + lower body strength
I slept in after another late night. Surprisingly, I am still sore from restarting the glutes and legs program this week. I guess that means I am challenging myself! Later, got a hair color and cut off 2 inches for summer.
Saturday- 3 mile walk + stretch class
Active recovery day over here. In case you missed my Vegan Sloppy Joe recipe on IG, you can find it here.
And that’s a wrap of my busy week of eclipse, recovery and a few laughs!

Love the cut. You look great.
This will be my recovery week. I hope the weather improves. Still looks like a lot of rain.

Recovery weeks are definitely helpful!

you look great!! we missed thr eclipse here because we were traveling back from spring break but it sounds like jt was amazing. I’m trying to get in half marathon shape but struggling this year with injuries, sickness and everything going on!
Deborah Brooks says
I feel that!
Susanne says
Congrats to getting back to longer distances! You look happy and energetic post-race!
I love your hair! It’s nice to get a cut in the spring. I did the same just before St Patrick’s day.
Good to hear about your glute/leg program! I’ve been challenging my glutes a lot lately with the Bulgarian squats and when I came back to the gym I got some heavy deadlifts and sumo squats… so my glutes are toast! It’s good to do some walking after such things.
Deborah Brooks says
Always feels good to walk after a hard leg day
Wendy says

OOH. I want to try that plant protein! I usually avoid stuff like that because it’s filled with so much crap, but this one looks amazing. Thanks for the tip.
Congrats on the race! How cool that your son’s gf also ran it. Sounds like a really fun week!
Deborah Brooks says
I think you would like the plant protein it’s very plain and easily adaptable. Agree that many of them have too much crap in them but this one does not
And thanks I am so grateful to be back at the longer races
Jessie says
What a fun week Deborah! The glutes and legs program sounds like a good one- you are definitely pushing yourself! I’m glad the work dinner hosting went well!
Deborah Brooks says
Thanks! I do love a good leg day

Awh, your hair looks great! Congrats on the Cherry Blossom, wish I could have been there, but this year it conflicted with the Fight for Air Climb (they seem to land on the same weekend frequently). I need to checkout that glute program (I probably said that back in January, and it didn’t happen then LOL).
Deborah Brooks says
I think you would really like it and it’s very challenging
So grateful to be back out there running CB again
Coco says

Nice job with the Cherry Blossom! It’s so wise to spend a few days in active recovery mode after a tough race. So cool to see your son’s girlfriend running it too!
I couldn’t imagine hosting a dinner a day after a race – well done!
Deborah Brooks says
I did not plan it that way! lol
