After last weekend’s quick but jam packed weekend in Philly, I am back with another episode of my Eat, Play, Run chronicles. I am not used to all of this back to back travel and it definitely requires discipline and organization to try to stay on track with my running plan. I knew in advance there would be weather challenges to navigate and food choices to make. Here’s a quick recap of Eat, Play, Run Philly Style.
Eat, Play, Run Philly Style
Eat
We hit a lot of traffic Friday afternoon driving in from DC to Philly but made it just in time for our reservation at Zahav. I had the best hummus I’ve ever had at this trendy, hard to get a table at Israeli restaurant. The hummus is so good that numerous foodie writers have posted on how to make it. Check out the technique here and enjoy it for yourself. I munched on a bunch of vegetarian mezze including fried cauliflower, Brussels Sprouts with hazelnuts and broccoli with pine nuts and feta. Best meal I had all weekend and well worth the drive. My photo did not turn out well but here is one from a side of sweet
Play
My husband is from Philly and both he and my son are avid (or rabid) Philly fans. They love all the Philly teams (Eagles, Flyers, Phillies and Sixers) and often go up to games together. I was never invited to join in until this weekend when I was invited to tag along for my first ever NFL game. I had been warned about how “intense” the fans in Philly were and I was thrilled to experience it first hand. We scored some field passes and were able to see the players warming up on the field before the game. Those guys are huge! Watching them sprint down the field up close, I was impressed by their athleticism. Even though it was raining, I had the best time. It sure helped that they crushed the 49ers and are now in first place in the NFL.
Run
I knew I wanted to get in a long run while visiting Philly and there can’t be a more iconic route to take than the one that goes right by the Philadelphia Museum Of Art. Could not pass up a chance to run up the famous Rocky steps and then continue on down Kelly Drive and back to the hotel for about a 6.5 mile route. There was a crew regatta going on and the whole area was jam packed full of college kids and their parents. The energy of the crowd and the boost I got from the Rocky steps, made for an incredible run. PS The rest of my family was off eating Cheese steaks while I was running so I kind of feel like I get some bonus points for my discipline. Don’t you agree?
That sums up my weekend of Eat, Play, Run Philly Style. I am headed to San Francisco this weekend and can’t wait to share my adventures there with you next week.
Tell me-How do you find the discipline to keep up your fitness & running while traveling?

Looks like a fun trip! Ive done the Philly Marathon twice and its such a great city for running. When I travel, I just try to focus on getting my workouts done first thing in the morning!
I definitely need to do a race there next year!
How cool you guys scored field passes. I have been to several NFL games an you are right, the fans are intense!
They sure can be!
Sounds like you had a great time in Philly – my hubby is from PA and is all teams Philly too! We went to a Phillies game one Sunday and had an authentic cheesesteak but I’d love to go back. Have fun in SF!
It’s a fun sports city as the fans are really into it for sure
Philly is one of my favorite cities! Glad you had such a great time there. You definitely fit in a lot of activity in a short amount of time!
Yes I had to squeeze it all in
I watched a bit of the Eagles game on tv because my boyfriend’s dad is and Eagles fan. They are doing so well this year! It seems like a fun weekend.
Keeping up with working out honestly depends on where I am traveling to and for how long. This past weekend, I didn’t work out at all but two weeks ago when I was traveling for work I kept up my normal running routine. Just depends with me 🙂
Yes it’s fun to watch the Eagles this season for sure. It’s fun to run in new cities while traveling isn’t it?!
You are right– It does take discipline to stay on track while on vacation! Looks so fun and I love the photo of you running Rocky-style up those stairs.
Had to be done right?! I hope I can stay on track while in San Francisco this week. Lots of yummy foods there too
This sounds like so much fun!!! I would LOVE to run the Rocky steps one day. And how cool that you got to be on the field!
It was a fun but quick weekend adventure
I love roasted cauliflower and you are making me hungry with the hummus reference!
When I travel, I try to stay healthy by seeking out fun new places to train.
best hummus I have ever had hands down! I love to hit up new fitness classes when I travel
Sounds like a great weekend! I’ve heard a lot about Zahav, it’s definitely on my list of places to go when I make it to Philadelphia.
Oh it’s definitely worth it-fabulous meal
Looks like it was a jam packed fun weekend! Love the photos! Can’t wait to see your san fran pics. Have fun!
Thanks I am excited heading out there today
looks like such a fun trip! Now I wanna travel cross-country to try that Israeli restaurant, looks delicious!
Best hummus ever!
Wow, you sure are getting around!
The hummus does look marvelous. And who wouldn’t want to run up (probably in my case walk up) the “Rocky” steps? Cue the music. 🙂
Cue the music indeed! Yes I am not used to all of this travel 3 weeks in a row
That Kelly drive route was a staple for me in grad school! I love Philly- although I’ve never been to that Israeli restaurant. It sounds amazing!
I generally run early mornings when we travel and scope out some activities or ideas for the trip. Glad you had a fun time!
I think the restaurant probably has been there about 5 years next time you should check it out
I always enjoy running in Philly! Sounds like a fun trip!
It is nice and flat too!
I love the pic of the Rocky Steps LOL! You probably know I’m a bit envious, right? 😉 It sounds like the entire weekend was a great time!
You know I kept thinking about how much more fun it would have been if I had some running friends along!
Looks like an amazing trip, I was following on Instagram and had to laugh at the stairs…. that’s a true fitness lover right there!
Definitely!
Looks like a fun time at the game!
It was an experience!
I’m a huge fan of Israeli food, and hummus with pita has got me all hungry now. When I’m around, I’d love to visit Zahav.
And an Eagles fan, eh? How are you loving your new quarterback, Carson Wentz. Well, not so new, but still!
Best,
The Fitness Bro
My boys do love Wentz especially now that they are winning!
My husband is a 49er fan and he has been suffering all season, but I won’t hold it against you. 🙂 I went once to a game when the niners were playing the Arizona Cardinals and a fight broke out in the stands! Ahh, alcohol and rabid fans! 🙂
ha ha! I did see one fight which I take it is to be expected 🙂
That looks like a fantastic trip to Philly!! I’d love to go to an NFL game, hope to at some point! 🙂
It’s quite the experience indeed the energy is crazy fun
Sounds like you had a great time in Philly.
I’ve only been there once, but it was a lot of fun seeing all the historic buildings and such!
There is certainly a ton to see there
Looks like such fun! Such a way to explore!
It was a jam packed weekend
Philly seems like a fun place to visit! Kuddos for fitting in running while traveling. That can be very difficult to do!
It sure can but it was worth it
What a fantastic weekend, and I love the picture on the iconic steps! I used to be great at keeping up with my fitness routine when I travel (about once a month) but I have really slacked lately. I can’t wait to hear about your SF adventures!
I try to stay as active as possible while traveling bc I eat so much more!
That food looks amazing! I ran in Philly with my fractured foot because I just had to. I would love to go back when I’m healthy and see more.
Me too! I’d love to do a race there some time. I hear the Broad Street 10 miler is good
You definitely get some bonus points haha! Running the museum steps is so fun, glad you enjoyed the trip 🙂 Hope we can meet up next time!
Me too!
I want that hummus!! I can’t believe I didn’t try that restaurant last time I was in Philly. I’ll have to try it next time.
It’s worth the trip!
looks like a great trip, i’ve always wanted to visit, going to aim to get there before 2020 😉
It is a fun city to visit
I’m glad that you had a great time in Philly – boo to the pouring rain! I’m sorry that I missed you!
I still haven’t made it to Zahav but will have to check it out – the owners have a few really great restaurants in the city!
They do have a bunch of restaurants now I will have to check out
I’ve only been to one NFL game and that was the Redskins versus Dolphins many years ago. It was a lot of fun!
It sounds incredibly cool to be able to run up the steps at the museum like Rocky did. I’m glad you were able to fit it in.
Thanks for linking up!
It was a really fun weekend!
