Brooks Ghost Gortex shoe review

Do you “need” a special shoe for a rainy or snowy run? No, your regular running shoe will suffice. However, if you find yourself getting blisters from wet shoes/socks or you just don’t like the feeling of wet wet, the Gortex Ghost might be just what you need.

Essential winter running essentials

As of now, the Brooks Ghost Gortex is available in the 14 style for both men and women. Important spec to note:

-Cushioned,  neutral shoe

-12 mm drop

-Weight 9.8 oz (compared to 9 oz for the traditional Ghost Womens)

What I liked

We have lots of rainy days here in the spring and winter. I prefer to opt outside for my training. You never know what race day will bring.

I was able to wear these shoes right out of the box without any breaking in period. They felt just as comfortable as my go to Ghost shoes currently in rotation. I appreciated the familiar fit and cushion.

Did my feet stay dry?

Absolutely! I was really surprised that my socks were completely dry after a pretty rainy run. They are also a bit warmer which is nice on a colder day. The shoe laces on are the shorter side which still allowed me to double tie them. I appreciated not having them hang over to get wet.

For those of us who love bright colors on our shoes, it would be nice to see them come out with more options there. Otherwise, I don’t have any negatives to report so far. The Brooks Ghost 14 Gortex are a great addition to a neutral runner’s shoe collection. If you are a trail runner, the popular Cascadia also come in a gortex version for both men and women.

Wow, until your post the other day I had no idea these existed. What a great idea. I would imagine these would be a game-changer for people who do a lot of trail running. I wore the Ghost many years ago and can’t quite remember why I switched. I do wear a neutral shoe and I know the Ghost has a wide toebox, so maybe I’ll try them again.

I can’t believe I never tried them out until now! I could see them being good for your climate as well

I’m bummed they’re a neutral shoe…I need support & stability for my high-maintenance arches. I do like the waterproof aspect, though! That said, maybe) a neutral shoe is worth a try for short-distance running…(?)

perhaps they might be fun to try for those shorter wetter/snowy runs. They do have a good return policy

I have been eyeing these for a bit debating whether I really need a shoe for rainy runs. I have to say that given all of the rain we’ve been having lately, I’m more interested than ever to give them a try. Thanks for sharing!

Not wide enough toe box for me.

Great idea to wear a waterproof shoe.

oh I would love something like these for all the rain we get. What’s the toe box like? I need a bit wider for my poor arthritic toes.

the toe box is the same as the regular Ghost shoe

I love the Ghost and even more that they’re waterproof! My feet and socks obviously get wet with my regular shoes but luckily I haven’t had any blisters. You mentioned they’re warmer so it sounds like the perfect running shoes for Winter.

They would be a nice addition to your collection and would be great for the Chicago climate
