Coming back after our 2 week vacation in Alaska, kind of threw me for a loop for a few days. Why does flying make you so tired when you are just sitting there? I am finally back on the right time zone and was ready to get back at it this week. Joining Wendy and Hoho for the Weekly Wrap.
Back at it
Monday- 30 min elliptical + 60 min strength training + 40 min treadmill walk
I really missed my strength training workouts while in Alaska and was happy to get back at them this week. My afternoon walk was cut short by tornado warnings so I was banished to the treadmill. Caught up on some TV shows while walking.
Tuesday- 2 mile run + physical therapy
Our morning run was cut short by a torrential rain that was not supposed to be arriving until way later. We may have ended up at breakfast and coffee. Heck why not?! Later that day, I was back at PT doing some running drills. This one was way harder than I expected and I really had to struggle to keep form.
Wednesday-day off
Wednesday was a holiday for me so no working out.
Thursday-4 mile run + yoga + 60 min strength training
I had to squeeze 2 days worth of workouts into one! A crazy busy day which also included a fun lunch at a new restaurant. I was invited to a preview tasting HoneyGrow. They had all kinds of yummy customizable salads and stir fries. So good, I took one home for dinner as well. Definitely ready to fall into bed that night.
Friday-traveling to Indiana
Yup it’s already parent’s weekend and time to visit the kids. Could not wait to get there and see them. Reunited…and it feels 😊 so good.
Saturday-7 mile Run + IU Football game
So excited to wake up to cool 60 degree temps this morning. Had the best run I’ve had in months. Using the 4:1 intervals and got back up to 7 miles without any achilles pain. I am, of course, a lot slower but don’t care as long as I can get the miles in.
Finally got to attend my first tailgate! We did not have this much fun at George Washington University when I was in school. We then headed to the stadium for the game with Michigan State. #Hoosiers Super fun to do with my whole family.
Sunday-brunch with the kids and heading back home
A short but fun weekend with the kids in Indiana. Hard to say goodbye!
That’s a wrap! Glad to be back at it with my normal routine-well sort of. Pop in tomorrow to check out my tailgate inspired Meatless Monday recipe-Jalapeño popper wontons. Have a great week everyone!

Why does flying or car rides make you so tired? It makes for such an inactive day. LOL Looks like you had a great week getting back to routine and getting to go see you kiddos had to be great.
Deborah Brooks says
I know traveling is exhausting!
Maureen @ Maureen Gets Real says
The picture of you all at IU is adorable! I’m glad you enjoyed the game!
Deborah Brooks says
Thanks we had a fun weekend w the kids
Judy @ Chocolaterunsjudy says
Wow! I thought I was busy . . . all good things though, right? So glad to hear that your achilles is cooperating! No doubt the speed will come back.
Deborah Brooks says
It was a busy week over here! All good yes and the running distance is coming back so hopefully the speed will too at some point. Just happy to be back out there

How fun (and convenient) that both kiddos go to the same college! What a great way to spend quality time with both of them.
It seems so early for parents weekend but when I did my run through town on Friday evening (our local university is in town), there were a lot of parents and students walking around, so I guess it is indeed time! -M
Deborah Brooks says
It was a little early but I miss them so much so I was happy to attend!
Wendy says
So so so fun! I loved all your family photos. I’m hoping to visit Matthew next weekend to watch him play rugby. We want to see a football game but tickets are $$$ and hard to find.
Here’s to hoping that we both feel better this week. Fatigue, go away!
Deborah Brooks says
Our tickets were not really pricey but you all are probably a better team 🙂 Yes hope we both feel good this week
Kimberly Hatting says
So glad your running is coming back!! What a fun weekend with the kids. It’s great both of them are at the same school 😉
Deborah Brooks says
Yes my achilles is feeling better and I was happy that running in cooler weather gave me some hope. Bring on fall!
Lesley says
It was hard to get back into things when I got back from Alaska too. I took the Monday off and worked from home on Tuesday. 3 days of working in the office was still tough, wishing I was still on vacation.
Deborah Brooks says
Yes me too! 🙂
Coco says
Two weeks is a long time to be in a different time zone – I’m sure it took some adjusting. Glad you had great weather for parents weekend!
Deborah Brooks says
We had an amazing time! Of course it was no surprise to come home to rain. I feel like we are stuck in a vortex of rain and humidity
Cari says
Ooh can’t wait for the jalapeno poppers recipe. Also team nap, <3 that shirt
Deborah Brooks says
I wish I was better at naps! 🙂
Cari says
Part of why I like Saturday races or long runs, a nap that follows. Sunday is for football so it’s more chill on the couch than nap but it works
Deborah Brooks says
Sounds like a perfect plan to me!
Shathiso says
Holidays are great but I always find it comforting to return to a routine again! Glad you managed to have some great family time too!
Deborah Brooks says
Yes I agree!
Hannah says
It sounds like you jumped right back in to your routine! Glad the intervals are working to keep you running.
Deborah Brooks says
Thanks so far so good!
Marcia says
Hooray for getting back in your normal rhythm. Parents weekend sounds like loads of fun. Cool weather makes all the difference with running, doesn’t it?
Deborah Brooks says
seriously it gave me hope! It’s been such tough going out there lately
Jennifer @ Fit Nana says
Hooray for cooler temps and hooray for miles!! And you know, a runner isn’t defined by how fast he/she runs, just that the running happens. 🙂
Deborah Brooks says
Oh yes-I kind of gave up on my pace a while ago haha. Just happy to be back running and training for my fall races
Jessie says
Travel by car or plane or whatever makes me sooo tired…even if I sleep on the way, ha! I think I have car-calepsy.
Looks like you had a fantastic week, way to go!
Deborah Brooks says
ha ha I do too! I wonder why that always happens
Lisa @ Mile by Mile says
Traveling is so exhausting! Great job getting in all those workouts even with some days off and more traveling. Glad you are getting back to doing longer distances again!
Deborah Brooks says
Me too! Now if we can just get our weather to be a little better I will be very happy
Debbie @ Deb Runs says
I can’t believe that was your first tailgate, but I’m glad you finally got to experience one! It sounds like you had a wonderful time at parents’ weekend. I used to love that weekend, but both of our sons’ universities held parents’ weekend on non home game weekends (due to the massive amount of people already in town for the game) and that always bummed me out.
We used to have about 50 people at our tailgate at every home game. It’s weird that we didn’t renew our season tickets this year and are only going to one game…
Deborah Brooks says
The tailgate was so much fun I definitely have to go it again
Teresa says
I totally understand the jet lag! Between our trip to London, the hubby’s return from deployment, work and training …I’m wiped out. I just can’t seem to find the time to sit down and write a blog! Hoping to get back on that this weekend. Your trip looked fabulous and I know you had a wonderful time with your college kids!
Deborah Brooks says
Thanks so much! I get the wiped out feeling for sure. I hope you and your hubs had a fantastic trip as well. Look forward to seeing you back at it soon
