It’s the last Friday of the month so that means one thing. It’s time for the August Runfessions with Marcia. It’s time to go summer! A monthly post to bear all things running or anything else we need to get off of our chests. Let’s get right to it shall we?
August Runfessions Time To Go Summer
I Runfess…I have probably run the fewest miles this summer of any that I can remember and I am okay with that. I complained about the heat and humidity enough so that you all know that already. Schools have started, days are getting shorter. Sure we had some fun in your warm sun and your tan lines but let’s not over stay your welcome. It’s time to go summer.
I Runfess…I appreciated the break from long runs and now I am feeling very ready to take them on again. I am dreaming of cool morning runs followed by warm baths and hot coffee. Who is with me here?
I Runfess…I am getting excited about fall and winter racing. I have a few 10k’s and a 15K on my fall schedule and 2 half marathons on my early 2020 calendar so far. I think one of the bonuses about paring down my running this summer is that I am truly excited to start up again. I don’t feel as burnt out as I have in past years. I suppose that is the point of an off season. It makes you hungry to come back.
I Runfess…I am pretty much eating and drinking my way through Napa this weekend and I don’t expect to feel guilty about it at all. I know I will get back to my regular schedule next week. As my favorite Peloton instructor Denis says, “Life is much more fun when you participate in it”. A wise man he is.
That’s all I’ve got to Runfess and Confess today! Mark your calendars for the September Ultimate Coffee date next Friday. Hope to see you there. Happy long weekend friends!

I runfess that I’m working hard on my new normal for a bit and not loving it, but I’m glad I don’t have any races whose prep I’m going to ruin by run-walking slowly around my neighbourhood. I runfess that I’m glad I won’t need to buy more new shoes for a bit as I stay on a general mileage rather than a training one!
Deborah Brooks says
Being injured is so hard and frustrating! You know you have all of us to complain to!
Liz Dexter says
I’m not even injured! I’ve had a mental health crisis and have been put on some anti-anxiety medication which has had an effect on my blood pressure and my heart rate, thus messing with my running. My doctor is on-side with the running though and we’re monitoring and will change my blood pressure medication if necessary. Sorry if all this wasn’t clear – because of family issues I can’t be completely open about these things on my own blog, which is very frustrating as my lovely international community of runners is so supportive of one another!
Deborah Brooks says
I am so sorry that you are going through such a rough time. I know how stressful family can be. I am also glad that you have all of us on line friends for support. Hang in there Liz! xoxo
Wendy says
I agree that Denis is a wise man. Love the quote! Have so much fun in Napa!
Seems like a lot of us have struggled with the miles this summer. I’m glad it’s not just me, cause I’m selfish like that… 😛
Deborah Brooks says
ha ha nope not just you! I hope that September is better for all of us
Kim G says
I am also ready to wave bye bye to summer! I’m so over the humidity and can’t wait for cooler mornings for running.
Hope you’re enjoying your time in Napa!
Deborah Brooks says
Yes me too! Let’s bring on the cooler mornings we deserve them!
Rachel says
So not running seems to be the theme this summer!!! How funny. Looks like everyone has found something else to be passionate about which is great!
I hope to see you in October?? I will NOT punk out this time.
Deborah Brooks says
Yes running is not my friend this summer at all. I am ok with it for now.Check in with me a few weeks before MCM to see if we can make plans
Janelle @ Run With No Regrets says
This fall-like weather has been glorious! It sounds like you’ve got some fun races ahead, and I totally agree about how having that down time really gets you amped up for what lies ahead!
Deborah Brooks says
I hope it works!
Marcia says
I’m right there with you with the lowest running mileage since I started running distance 12 years ago. It feels weird sometimes, but overall I was THRILLED to not have a long run hanging over my head in the heat. 10k is the new marathon in my world. Enjoy your fun trip and thanks for linking!
Deborah Brooks says
Yes I love a good 10K myself and I am hoping to jump into a few in November. I think it will be ok!
Coco says
That’s a great quote – enjoy Napa! You know my mileage has plummeted this summer too. I’m ready to run more, but will my body cooperate? Let’s do real coffee soon!
Deborah Brooks says
I am hoping my body will cooperate too but I am just not so sure. We shall see! Yes we need a coffee date soon
Kimberly Hatting says
I’m sure you’re enjoying your time in Napa!! What you said about off-seasons is spot-on. I often wonder how people can run/train year-round and NOT get burnt out or injured. Although I stay active, I always scale back my running during the winter. Usually, there’s been a busy fall (and there’s usually been a marathon sprinkled in there as well), so I know my body needs a break from excess mileage.
Deborah Brooks says
I know I need a break sometimes too. I tend to run more in the winter time. Let’s hope my body cooperates this year
Debbie @ Deb Runs says
“Life is much more fun when you participate in it” – that’s a great quote from Denis!
I’m ready for cooler days, but not cold days. It was in the high 50’s both mornings this week when I ran at 5 AM and it felt so good!
Have a great weekend!
Deborah Brooks says
I will take the 50’s!
Black Knight says
I also dream of cool morning runs followed by warm baths (here we have ancient roman thermal baths: perfect for a post running relax).
However the heat and the humidity don’t want to go away!
Good luck on your fall and winter races: run strong!
Beautiful photos.
Deborah Brooks says
Those thermal baths sound just terrific!
Laurie says
Have a wonderful time in Napa! Love that area. Your Peloton instructor has a great attitude. No wonder he’s your favorite!
Deborah Brooks says
He is my favorite and he is also nice to look at 🙂
Judy @ Chocolaterunsjudy says
Ooh, have fun in Napa! Such a nice place to visit.
I wish Summer could hang around a little longer but I am digging the cool mornings.
Off seasons do a body good. 🙂
Deborah Brooks says
I am so ready for cooler mornings. Sure hope the off season will help me come fall
Michelle @ Running with Attitude says
“Life is much more fun when you participate in it” — yes to this!! Enjoy Napa!
Deborah Brooks says
Isn’t it a great quote!?
Cari says
“I am dreaming of cool morning runs followed by warm baths and hot coffee. Who is with me here?”
AbsoLUTELY
I still do the latter anyway as the epsom soaks have been key to my muscles not hating me, but I can’t wait to want to take the chill off. Enjoy your time in Napa!
Deborah Brooks says
Yes maybe if we all dream about them the cooler mornings will come sooner!
