August Runfessions

Wow is it the end of August already?! This week’s August Runfessions post comes just at the right time because I have lots to Runfess today. Let’s get right to it shall we.

August Runfessions

August Runfessions

I Runfess…I really enjoyed doing all different kinds of (non running) workouts on my vacation in Nantucket this week. From biking, to SUP yoga to kayaking I kept really busy and honestly did not miss running too much. It wasn’t until my husband said, “wow can’t believe you have not gone out for a run yet here” that I realized it had been almost a week since I ran. Thanks for the reminder hon! Fortunately, I had quite the epic background. This old lighthouse was just breathtaking to run by.

August Runfessions

I Runfess….All of the sudden I am having the worst bra chafing every time I run. I thought I had found the perfect running bra to support these DD’s. I don’t know what is going on in there! I am back to using body glide but still chafing. Any other ideas for me?

August Runfessions

I Runfess…I just realized that my Napa Valley Ragnar race is in just about 2 months. I have been using the heat and humidity as my excuse for long enough so it’s about time I start getting those long runs back in.

I Runfess…All of this run procrastination has not stopped me for signing up for a bunch of fall races. That’s always great motivation isn’t it?

August Runfessions

I Runfess…Speaking of eating-I really enjoyed eating lots of fudge in Nantucket this week. Dark chocolate and marshmallow why are you so good? Oh and there may have been some ice cream involved as well. Seriously, people waited in line at this place called the Juice Bar for 45 minutes to get a scoop of ice cream. Anyway, I will be cleaning up my eating again and may switch up some things for the next few weeks. More on that later.

Wow that felt great! Thanks for letting me get all of my August Runfessions off of my chest. Have any tips on bra chafing for me?

As a life long vegetarian, I've always been passionate about healthy living & exercise. Looking for partners in crime, I started my own chapter of Moms Run This Town (MRTT) which has grown to over 700 members. I've met so many amazing women who inspire me daily to keep moving forward. You can usually find me running with my crew and training for the next crazy adventure they talked me into. I love to keep up to date on new running & fitness trends. I definitely choose my running gear based on color and love to express my fashion sense while exercising.

Love the lighthouse picture! I can’t believe August is about over. Christmas will be here before you know it! Not sure about the bra chafing, maybe it’s this heat and humidity? Signing up for races is great motivation for sure. Have a great weekend.

I loved the lighthouse too! Yes this year is just flying by

i loved seeing all of your photos from vacation on IG. looks like you had an awesome time and got in some really cool workouts!

Have you tried Moving Comfort sports bras? I particular like the Juno style. I also have double D’s and it gives me support and I haven’t had any chafing with the bras so far (knock on wood).

    • Deborah Brooks says

      08/25/2017 at 8:03 am

I used to wear the Juno bra for a long time I don’t know why I switched I may need to go back. Adds an extra challenge to running!

Ugh Chafing. Nobody enjoys that. Yeah, it sounds like you just need to try a new bra. Have you tried the Handful Y back?

      08/25/2017 at 8:03 am

I have so much more than a handful lol do you think they are supportive enough?

Love that lighthouse view. I hope to sneak in a run at the beach next week. Plus some bike rides. I really should try SUP too ….

I loved the SUP yoga hope you have a chance to try it

I love that lighthouse photo! It’s such a great backdrop.

Napa Ragnar sounds fun. I would love to do it some day. Cant help you on the bra chafing. That area is not my issue. 😂 If I’m going yo chafe it’s usually on my arms. Or my legs if I dare to wear shorts instead of a skirt.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      08/25/2017 at 8:04 am

It definitely adds an extra challenge to running!

  6. Jamie says

I was always told that bras wear out faster than they appear to and chafing is the first sign it’s time for a replacement.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      08/25/2017 at 10:04 am

I know but they are new! Same style as my old one but new chafing. Uh runner probs

  7. Marcia says

    08/25/2017 at 8:40 am

Mmmmm yes, vacation fudge is a must have. Crazy about the chafe. I find daper rash cream is really effective in getting rid of it. Felt weird to be buying it though!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      08/25/2017 at 10:05 am

ha ha yes it does help and I also use gold bond cream. I need to figure out what the issue is asap

    08/25/2017 at 8:50 am

Where is that adorable lighthouse?! I would also be interested in what sports bras are good in that size! I double up a lot of the time. My sister used to work for Ragnar, so I’m familiar with those races and jealous that yours will be in Napa Valley!!

      08/25/2017 at 10:06 am

We just got back from Nantucket where there are a lot of cute lighthouses. I was wearing the moving comfort Maia w underwire for years and switched to the chantelle w the underwire which were fabulous until recently.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      08/25/2017 at 10:08 am

Thanks I did have some beautiful backdrops to photo. I don’t understand why I am all of the sudden having so much chafing!

    08/25/2017 at 9:41 am

What is up with chaffing this month – you have new chaffing, Marcia has new chaffing, I have a horrible new spot that just won’t quit no matter how much Body Glide I cover it in.
Apparently August is National Discover New Chafe Spots Month

    • Deborah Brooks says

      08/25/2017 at 10:09 am

LOL I hope not!! Misery loves company 🙂

  11. Chaitali says

    08/25/2017 at 10:50 am

Oh man, the chafing is horrible and definitely seems worse in the Summer. Good luck with getting back to training 🙂 Signing up for races is definitely motivation..

    • Deborah Brooks says

      08/25/2017 at 1:18 pm

The chafing is just awful! signed up for 3 races already that should help 🙂

  12. Marsha says

    08/25/2017 at 11:35 am

I have the hardest time finding a good bra that is not super expensive (and even those aren’t great!) for those of us with larger girls 😉 I live by aquaphor and have to rub it around my bra line for my longer runs. Shorter runs I’m okay. Let me know if you figure anything out 🙂 I’ve spent so much money on various bras!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      08/25/2017 at 1:20 pm

I sprung for the pricey bras and they worked for a long time. I do like aquaphor I will try using that tomorrow before my run.

      • Marsha says

        08/25/2017 at 1:22 pm

What brand did you find to work best? I currently have a Brooks bra that I like and I’ve tried several C9 from Target or Dick’s Sporting Goods. I had one at Target that I liked and it wasn’t too expensive, but they stopped making it!

        • Deborah Brooks says

          08/25/2017 at 1:25 pm

My favorite running bra right now is the Chantelle w the underwire. I got them at Nordstrom. Check them out

          • Marsha says

            08/25/2017 at 1:29 pm

Will do. Thanks for sharing that! Have a good run tomorrow.

Besides the Rock n Roll race over Labor day I do not have any fall races on my schedule. I am thinking about signing up for one. You know that FOMO!

    • Deborah Brooks says

Hahaha – so true about the chafing! It’s the worst feeling ever when hot water hits it, ouch.

I love these “runfessions” posts – so much fun. Hope you have a great weekend!

I won’t lie–all summer I’ve been indulging in ice cream more than I should have been. Fortunately, I had that oral surgery, which forced me to cut back on everything. Ayyyyy!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      08/26/2017 at 7:43 pm

oral surgery is a great time for ice cream!

  18. Megan @ Meg Go Run says

    08/26/2017 at 7:06 am

I hate when I randomly start chaffing! Especially when I am not wearing anything new, so it makes ya wonder why. My husband and I have been thinking about going to Cape Cod for vacation next summer. Do you have any tips for us? Preferably somewhere with not a lot of kids… which makes me think we would have to find an adults only bed and breakfast or something. I have also read that the bays are warmer than the ocean? Is that true?

    • Deborah Brooks says

      08/26/2017 at 7:44 pm

We loved Nantucket but it’s very diff from Cape Cod I believe. I would think any of the beach places have lots of kids unless you go in Sept. The ocean is a little chilly up there!

  19. Kimberly Hatting says

    08/26/2017 at 7:11 am

Oh, that dark chocolate & marshmallow fudge sounds heavenly! Well, my “girls” have never had issues with chafing in or around their ‘hood …..maybe go without? (#joking). I hope you get a solution or a happy remedy 😉

    • Deborah Brooks says

      08/26/2017 at 7:47 pm

ha ha I would give myself black eyes! I used some aquaphor pre run today and no chafing

  20. Emily @ Pizza & Pull-ups says

    08/26/2017 at 6:50 pm

Love the Nantucket pictures, what a beautiful backdrop!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      08/26/2017 at 7:47 pm

It was a gorgeous back drop!

  21. Rachel says

I runfess I’ve been having a lot of underarm chafing and I have no idea why! I lube up like none other before I head out. I runfess I’ve also had my fair share of lady part chafing and that is the WORST!
