As most of you are aware, I have been a Skirt Sports Ambassador for a few years now. However, this post was completely my idea and I have not been compensated for it. All the skirt love is my own. Now that we got that out of the way, Skirt Sports has a fun new Skirt Box idea to give women a chance to try the 5 most popular styles on and keep what they like. My friend and fellow ambassador, Erika (MCMMamaRuns), and I have teamed up to create our own Skirt Box to share with you.
Erika and I have always joked how we have such different body types, but at the same time, wear the same size in our Skirt Sports skirts. We thought it would be fun to show how we both look in those 5 most popular styles and share why we love the ones we do. One of the underlying philosophies of Skirt Sports is that their clothes are designed to fit “real women” and real bodies. This is our attempt to show you how the same skirts look on 2 completely different body types.
My Own Skirt Box
The Lioness
My personal favorite skirt! With it’s short, flirty pleats and built in shorts, the lioness is fun and flattering. I love the 3 built in pockets and wide waistband. As soon as the temps go over 60 degrees, you will find me running around in my Lioness. (skirt length 12″ in front 13″ in back)
The Gym Girl Ultra
Slightly longer at 14″ with built in shorties of 5″ the Gym Girl Ultra is the most popular Skirt Sports style. It’s universally flattering, comes in tons of colors and the shorts stay right in place for chafe free running. I like this length skirt for cross training routines and spin classes.
The Happy Girl
Looking for a little bit of a longer skirt, the Happy Girl is 17″ with a built in 7″ shorties. With 3 pockets and a built in music port, the Happy Girl can take you from your workout to running errands in style.
The Lotta Breeze Capri
The best of both worlds The lotta Breeze Capri with a 13″ skirt over 17.5″ capri. With a wide waistband and 2 built in pockets.
The Tough Girl
Made for chillier runs, gym workouts or just for going out and about. This cute Tough Girl has a 13″ skirt on top of a flattering boot cut legging will take you wherever you need to go.
If we have not convinced you yet-Erika and I made a short video about why we love our favorite skirts. We would love for you to check it out. Please check out Erika’s post too to read her take on the skirts.
Which style skirt looks good to you? Would you want to check out the skirt box?

OMG this was such a great post. LOVED it and LOVED the video. I have never worn a skirt I am always afraid the rubbing material will chafe. But going to check it out anyway ! Can you tell me how do things size ? What size do you get and is it pretty true to size ? For Athleta, my pants are an M. What would you suggest here ?
Deborah Brooks says
So both Erika and I are wearing a size small. I think Athleta sizes are a little bigger but if you like a little bit of a roomier fit I would go medium. The skirt box might be a great idea for you bc then you can try all the styles you want. Feel free to message me if you want to talk sizing or style happy to help
Lacey@fairytalesandfitness says
Cute skirts. I love the patterns and built in boxes.
Deborah Brooks says
Ah thanks fun to do!
Susie @ Suzlyfe says
The lioness is so cute! I love the flippy aspect of it–like being back in high school (especially for me, because that style had come back in a big way then) but without the angst or social stratification. LOL
Have a great week, Deborah! (and Ericka)
Deborah Brooks says
yes exactly! It would look super cute on you too. I was having trouble getting your site to load this morning will try later.
Julie @ Running in a Skirt says
What a fun box! I’m pretty sure what would happen would be I’d love them all and find a reason to keep them all! lol! What a fun post!!!
Deborah Brooks says
Well…that may have happened to both of us
Debbie @ Coach Debbie Runs says
I’m not sure what I’m most excited about, the skirt box or watching the video and getting to hear your voices! 😃 I have both of the skirts you two are wearing in the video, same pattern too!
I am definitely a GGU fan, though I’m always ready to branch out. I’m even coming around to the Tough Girl or Lotta Breeze look!
I’m afraid if I got the skirt box I’d end up keeping ALL THE SKIRTS!!!
Deborah Brooks says
Well yes! These are actually all things we both already owned oops. I had never tried the lotta breeze until I tried hers and now I love it. Branching out is fun and all the new patterns are super cute.
Darlene says
What a great idea.
I mostly wear the GGU and Lotta Breeze. And Tough Girl in the winter.
Deborah Brooks says
We did have fun! I tried the tough girl for the first time and loved them
Kimberly says
The video was so fun! I don’t wear running skirts but I love all the different prints and patterns. It makes it easy to pull together an awesome running outfit – head to toe!
Deborah Brooks says
Yes it does! I also really love all of their capri and tights as well
Marcia says
A skirt box is a great idea! I wish I still had my original Skirt Sports Skirts from 10+ years ago. They came in colors like Sangria and Root Beer. :p
Deborah Brooks says
How fun I don’t even remember those!
Gretchen says
These all look great on you! I especially like the one with pleats. I don’t really wear skirts though, and have never worn one for working out!

Very fun! I think the Gym Girl Ultra would be a good option for me – tall, long legs, curvy. It’s hard to find something that covers the booty!
Deborah Brooks says
That would be a perfect one for you! I hope you try it. I have a discount code I can share just message me if you’d like it
Judy @ Chocolaterunsjudy says
How cool to hear you guys!
I have often thought of doing this sort of post way before the skirt box came out, except I just never seem to get around to it. I never thought of doing it with Darlene, however — we definitely have different body types. Not sure I could convince her. And there’s another ambassador in our area (I’ve only met her once — maybe we need a SS lunch!).
Deborah Brooks says
Well I think you absolutely do!
Michelle @ Running with Attitude says
This post & video was such a great idea 🙂 I love the skirts but haven’t tried the capri/skirt combo yet. Very cute!
Deborah Brooks says
They are really cute on and perfect for spring
Rachel says
You guys are adorable. I love the idea of a skirt but I’ve never been a skirt kind of girl so I’ll probably stick to pants/shorts. But if I do go skirt, y’all are the first I will come to for recommendations!
Deborah Brooks says
We are here if you have questions! Never say never
Coco says
I love that you teamed up to do this! I think I got the Gym Girl? I only wore it once before it got too cold! The Happy Girl does look great for post-run errand-running.
Deborah Brooks says
I think the gym girl is the one you have yes. I bet you can wear it this weekend!
The Accidental Marathoner says
Though I’m not into the skirts for running, I do like the idea of creating the box. And what fun to compare how different skirts look on different people!
Deborah Brooks says
It is always fun to see how they look differently on everyone
Kimberly Hatting says
You gals are SO adorable!! I think I like the length of the the Lioness, but prefer the straight cut of the Gym Girl Ultra…does such a style exist like that? (asking for a friend…) 😉
Deborah Brooks says
The gym girl is only sightly longer so I would say go for that if you like the straight style. All the new spring ones are coming out. You would look super cute in one
Annmarie says
LOVE the gym girl ultra skirt and the pattern you chose! Super cute!

Ive never worn a sport skirt before, but these are cute! Kinda reminds me of playing tennis! I wonder how they would affect chaffing, etc. while running?
Deborah Brooks says
I do not have any chafing at all with their skirts. I have with other brands. If you ever want some guidance on which style might work for you, let me know happy to help
