      • Last week I had the opportunity to visit House of Steep in Arlington, VA. (A few miles outside of DC) Yes House of Steep is a tea house but so so  much more. It is also a Foot Sanctuary. Oh yea a Foot Sanctuary!
      • The front of the shop is set up like a traditional Tea House where you can taste any of their signature blends from Chai to Oolong to Hibiscus and then enjoy them in cup or ceramic pots. “Tea Flights” are also available that allow you to taste 3 teas at a time.
    • Have a little more time? Stressed? Have tired feet?
      • Hidden behind wooden slats is small Foot Sanctuary where my 2 friends and I enjoyed a 20 minute soak and 25 min foot & lower leg massage. AAAH!
      • The 20 minute soak was a heavenly warm foot bath filled with salts, herbs and essential oils. My feet were very relaxed, warm and soft as they soaked in the “Revitalize” blend (wintergreen, juniper & burdock). An attendant comes by every few minutes to warm up your water and refill your tea. Nice! A 20 minute soak is $22.
      • Post soak, we enjoyed a 25 minute foot and lower leg massage. These tired runner feet were very happy to be rubbed and massaged. The Foot Therapy menu also includes Reflexology and hand/arm massage. We all left feeling very relaxed and ready to take on the world aka laundry, carpooling and making dinner for our families.
      • How I did not know that House of Steep has been open for 3 years? What a wonderful way to escape for an hour with friends! I felt like it was my duty to test it out for all of my runner friends and stressed out moms. Your welcome! You have to take care of your feet right?!
  • Have you been to an untraditional tea house? Favorite girls day out?

About Deborah Brooks

Hi I'm Deborah! I spend my days successfully raising a husband & 2 teens in the VA/DC area. I am a lover of all things running & fitness. As a life long vegetarian, I've always been passionate about healthy living & exercise. Looking for partners in crime, I started my own chapter of Moms Run This Town (MRTT) which has grown to over 700 members. I've met so many amazing women who inspire me daily to keep moving forward. You can usually find me running with my crew and training for the next crazy adventure they talked me into. I love to keep up to date on new running & fitness trends. I definitely choose my running gear based on color and love to express my fashion sense while exercising.

Wow, there are so many cool things in DC. The most interesting thing I ever did related to my feet was at the Singapore Zoo when I did that fish thing – you put your feet in a tank of water with little fish and they eat all the dead skin off your feet. It was so tickle-y!!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      10/30/2015 at 6:57 am

I saw the foot fish in Singapore too but I was too freaked out to try it!!

There is a bar and reflexology/foot massage place here! I think it even goes so far as to call itself a martini bar. House of Steep seems more my speed.
