Thanks for joining Kim and me for the weekly run down. Yup, you read that right, we can’t stay put. This time, we are off just for a short weekend in New York. Good thing my travel bag is always packed and ready to go on adventures.
My Travel Bag is Always Packed
Sunday- 4 mile run/walk + 1 mile walk cooldown + stretch
It was a toasty one again out there. I had not seen some of my running buddies in a while so nice to catch up. Speaking of catching up, I really did not. As I am back to doing intervals and slower ones at that, I did not spend much time actually running with them. Was I frustrated? Yes. Am I giving up? Not today.
Monday-upper & lower body strength + core + cycle
I do love to hit it hard on a Monday. Ultimately, I decided to switch up my strength plan and join another Peloton pump it up vol 3. I was looking for more structure and I enjoyed the previous volumes.
Tuesday- 4 ish mile run/walk + stretch
Whew I was sore this morning! We also had crazy storms last night which left us with ridiculous humidity this morning. It got nicer and less humid as the day went on which is usually not how it goes. I was pretty wiped afterwards. It is going to take me a while to get my running fitness back for sure.
Wednesday- 2 mile walk + upper body strength + core + stretch
I seem to have angered my lower back/glutes so I backed off a bit today. Better to be safe than sorry. I met up with a friend for a morning walk and got in some upper body strength.
Thursday-Pelo walk + full body strength + core + Pelo cycle
My back and glutes were a lot better this morning and I thought it was best to skip the run today. I got in a good sweat with Peloton.
Later, we had fun going on a new restaurant review dinner with our friend who is the food critic for the Washington Post. Funny, ironically it was an Italian restaurant. I will post the link to the review when it comes out. I put their tomato mozzarella salad to my test. 😍
Friday-Peloton cycle class + travel to NYC
I got a good sweat on my bike before we dashed off to the train station. Good thing my travel bag is always packed! We are off for a quick weekend in NYC. I am on the waitlist for an in studio class-fingers crossed!
Saturday-Peloton cycle class + stretch
So…I did not get into the in studio class this morning sadly. I very unceremoniously took my 900th cycle class on the Peloton bike in the hotel gym. I was a little disappointed. However, we did have a fun day in NYC walking around and taking it all in.
Sunday- on the plan:
I am on the waitlist again for another Peloton class. My plan is to get up early and run to the studio and see if I can snag a spot on stand by. Stay tuned!

NYC is always a fun time. Hope you get into the live class.
My friends run slow intervals and I’m happy to join them. Better than running alone.
You’ll get back to where you were. I’m confident.
Deborah Brooks says
Thanks Darlene I hope so 🙂
Wendy says
I only took 3 weeks off running after Leadville and I am surprised at how much I lost in that time! It doesn’t take long, that is for sure. Just keep on keeping on, I guess! I hope you’re furiously pedaling away in a Peloton class right now!
Deborah Brooks says
That is what I have to do. I did a strength class today and it was lots of fun to do in studio
Chocolaterunsjudy says
Kind of LOL at you running to the studio so you can take a class. Glad the back & glute pain was short lived! Have fun (I know you will).
Deborah Brooks says
It is still there but not as bad. I am just ignoring it 🙂 I did have fun thanks
Marcia says
Looks like a fun weekend in NYC! Hope you were able to get into the Pelo class!
Deborah Brooks says
I did! 🙂
Debbie says
Hope you get back to full recovery quickly. Enjoy your quick trip to NYC – I hope you got into the live class this morning!
Deborah Brooks says
we had a great weekend!
Coco says
I’m glad to see you running again, even if your comeback is taking some time.
Fingers crossed for you at the studio today!
Deborah Brooks says
thanks I am determined to get back to regular running. Fun times at the studio
Kimberly Hatting says
Bummer on the Peloton in-class…hopefully today pans out better (?). Your travel adventures are always fun to see …from the screen of my phone or computer, that is 🙂 I hope your rally-back continues to go well!
Deborah Brooks says
thanks me too 🙂
Lisa @ TechChick Adventures says
I too am wondering when my running fitness will be returning! But at least the run/walk intervals have filled the void mostly. I think I missed it – you were advised to do run/walk in order to keep your heart rate down?
I just read through all of your travel posts from Italy. Wow, what a trip!! How nice to spend so much time there! Was it all vacation for your husband or did he have some sort of work to do there?
Deborah Brooks says
I am able to run again I am doing intervals bc I have lost so much running fitness and I find it is easier to manage especially in the summer heat. He had some work stuff the first week and then we were all vacay 🙂
Jenny says
Ooh, I hope you got into that class (if not, you’ll just have to go take another trip to NYC!)
Whenever I take time off from running, no matter what I do instead (pool running, spin class, etc.) i always feel SO out of shape when I run again! I’m always amazed at these people who jump right back into it. For me, nothing keeps me in shape for running other than running. But- you will get it back!
Deborah Brooks says
I agree-while I did cycling and weights and walking it is totally different than running. Taking it slow and steady especially until it cools down
Melissa says
yay for a fun trip to NYC! I’m sorry you didn’t to do the 900th class in person- but congrats on that achievement! Hoping you got in today!
Deborah Brooks says
thanks so much and yes I did!
Liz Dexter says
Hope you’ve continued to have a fun weekend in NYC! I feel a bit frustrated I seem slow at the moment but I’ve been neglecting my physio exercises (to be fair, I had a huge bruise after falling trying to get on my office chair and had a medical procedure that left me wobbly for a week) and I obviously do need those. We’ll get there!
Deborah Brooks says
wow sounds like you have a lot going on! We will both get there yes, hang on 🙂
Susanne says
It’s good to see you back running but I agree it’s good to take it easy! Nice work with the strength in the meantime! I’m sure you’ll get back your running shape in no time. I hope your NYC weekend was good!
Deborah Brooks says
I sure hope so. As you know it can be quite frustrating
Michelle says
So glad your persistence paid off and you got into the class!
Have faith – I’m sure your running fitness will return! Hopefully, your lower back isn’t giving you too much trouble.
Deborah Brooks says
class was amazing! I am going to keep pushing on I know it will happen perhaps just not as fast as I would like
San says
Oh, more travel… and to NYC. I saw on Instagram that you got into a class with Andy at PSNY – yay! That must have been so great (but I am sorry you didn’t get into a ride class for your 900! Bummer. Still, huge congrats!!
Deborah Brooks says
Yes it was great to get into Andy’s class. Not an easy get-I am going to write an post about it for Wednesday. Have you been?
Black Knight says
A week end in N.Y.C. sounds fun. I visited the city more than 20 years ago and I like it. I also make a workout in Central Park.
Glad to see you running again.
Until the end of summer I will run solo because I prefer to make my workouts at 06:00 a.m. while my friends run at 06:30 p.m.
Deborah Brooks says
Yes I am back to running slowly but better than no running. I am not an early morning runner either but good for you!
Jenn says
What a fun week. I love just getting to pick up and go. It’s always so exciting!
Deborah Brooks says
yes it sure is and NYC is an easy get away for us
