Thanks for joining Kim and Me for the weekly run down. Itās St.Patrickās Day weekend and NYC race Weekend. I am feeling lucky . Well this the week that didnāt turn out as planned. I am not running the NYC half marathon this weekend. I am feeling lucky but in the way that I had hoped.
Not the week I planned
This week, started out normally with a focus on stretching, nutrition and some extra sleep.
Monday- core + full body strength + stretch
I had a nice sleep in today as that time change always gets me. Shorter Peloton strength today with a little less weights.
Tuesday- 3.5 mile run + stretch
We did not get the Norāeaster that much of the northeast did but we got the crazy wind! Just when you think itās spring you wake up to temps in the 20ās and 30 mph winds. The first half of my run was rather comical and then we flew back to the start. Thankfully, it was just a short run today!
My feet felt pretty good on the run but were a little sore later. Trying to baby them for a few more days!
The hubs and I had a fun date night at a movie screening. We didnāt enjoy the movie too much but it was fun to get out for a date night at the movies again. Why does the popcorn šæ taste so good?
Wednesday- 35 min Peloton ride + stretch + core
Taking it pretty easy today with some low impact cycling. I skipped the strength training today. So this is where things went off the railsā¦
Last month, when I did the inside tracker I had strange result for a cardiac marker. So I asked my Dr. if he would run that blood test again and also schedule me for a cardiac calcium scan. Both of which are not tests that are normally done of women my age with no symptoms or family history.
I got the results back from my scan which showed that I had some calcium build up. This was unexpected and not the result I was looking for. My Dr. set me up for a stress test to make sure everything was ok before I headed up to run NYC.
The stress test then showed that all was not okay. I do have some issues that need further testing to figure out. Again, I feel totally fine and I have no symptoms at all. So, I was advised not to run at all until we do some tests next week.
After I cried for a few hours, I am now just mad. More on that later after I process it all.
Thursday- Travel to NYC and Peloton abs + stretch
We decided to head out NY anyway and try to have a fun, relaxing weekend. Later, We met some friends for dinner.
Friday- Peloton stretch class + walk 6 miles around NYC
My morning started out with green bagels with my favorite New Yorker-Cari. Seriously, if anyone can make you smile itās this girl.
We walked all around NY and saw all the St. Patrickās Dat parades and festivities. Met a few leprechauns. We had an amazing romantic dinner together.
Saturday- NYC pizza tour ( 6 miles of walking) + retail therapy + Team Wilpers Meet Up
I decided to start my day with the Team Wilpers training meet up at Central Park anyway. I did the damn training and I earned my fan girl photo with Matt.
We did a super fun Brooklyn Pizza Tour with 3 delicious stops. All carbed up nowhere to go! I then did a little retail therapy because that always helps. If you want to see the pizza tour check out my IG here.
Sunday- Taking the train home
My week obviously didnāt turn out as planned. I tried to make the most of it with a fun weekend in NYC with my husband.
Coco says
Oh, I am so sorry! I hope the next steps get sorted out soon
I am so glad you still went to NYC and are having a good time.
Damn straight you earned that photo with Matt ā itās a great one.
Deborah Brooks says
Yeah kind of sucks at the moment. I hope to get some more info this week
Wendy says
I’m glad you did the workout with Matt Wilpers–you earned it! So much fun getting together with Cari.
On a side note, I have to admit that I have been skeptical of Inside Tracker, but it looks like it has proved its worth. Interesting that it checks for all these under the radar things. Hopefully, this is all a false alarm, but if not, you caught it early.
Deborah Brooks says
Inside tracker alerted me that I needed to do further testing and it was really my husband who pushed me to do this other test. I am really glad that I did. thanks for all of your support this week it means a lot
Melissa says
Oh no- I’m so so sorry that things didn’t go ad expected. I’m glad you got the trip still and got your green bagel and date night. hoping you get everything fixed soon, or at least figured out.
Deborah Brooks says
I do too thanks
Chocolaterunsjudy says
Oh no Deborah! I am SO sorry! I hope that everything ultimately turns out ok.
Again, that totally sucks about not running the half but I hope you enjoyed all the lovely activities you were able to do! Hugs.
Deborah Brooks says
Thanks hope to find out more this week
Marcia says
Oh wow I’m so sorry. What a shock. Fingers crossed this all proves to be nothing but of course better safe than sorry. Time with Cari is always fun and I’m glad you made the most of your time in NYC. How great to get such a great pic with Matt!
Deborah Brooks says
Yes, definitely nothing I was expecting at all
Debbie says
Oh no, Deborah, I am so sorry! I’m glad you still went on your NYC trip and met up with Team Wilpers. I hope you get some answers and good news quickly.
Deborah Brooks says
thanks me too
Kimberly Hatting says
So very sorry for the big buzzkill on your NY trip. I’m glad you still made the trek there, saw some sights and got some Cari therapy š Huge hugs to you <3
Deborah Brooks says
thanks looking forward to an in person hug soon
Jenny says
Deborah, I’m so sorry- this is very frustrating!!! I know these are not test results you want to receive. BUT. You hear stories all the time about runners who feel completely healthy and suddenly drop dead in the middle of a race, from an unknown heart condition. Best to get this taken care of now. I hope you get some clear answers and a good treatment plan SOON.
I’m glad you went to NYC anyway- looks like you made the most of the weekend! Cari, green bagels, Matt Wilpers, a pizza tour… who needs a race? Just kidding…. I would have cried too. Bring on the retail therapy!
Deborah Brooks says
Thanks Jenny appreciate your support xo
Jenny says
After I wrote that comment I felt like I was needlessly dire. I didn’t mean to imply that your life was in danger- but still best to get these things addressed at the right time.
Deborah Brooks says
no worries thank you
Michelle says
Oh Deborah I’m so sorry! I’m keeping you in my thoughts and hoping that this will prove to be nothing. Such a bummer to miss the NYC Half – your training had gone so well. You definitely earned that photo with Matt š And I’m glad you made the most of your NYC weekend. Sending you lots of hugs!
Deborah Brooks says
thanks so much Michelle
Kim G says
I’m so sorry Deborah š I know how much you were looking forward to doing this race. I’m sure it’s just so much to process, but on the flip side, so thankful that you asked for those tests and that you were able to get a few results. Please keep us posted and continue to take it easy!
I saw the pizza tour on IG and it looked like a lot of fun.
Deborah Brooks says
thanks Kim I will. And yes, the pizza tour was so much fun
Jessie says
Deborah, I’m sorry to hear this, as I’m sure its disappointing after all your hard work What timing, but yet I’m so glad Inside Tracker + your husband encouraged you to get it all checked out. I hope you get positive news this week and can get back to your normal activities. I would have cried as well and also would have opted for some retail therapy. I hope you’re hanging in there.
Deborah Brooks says
Thanks Jessie it is as lot to process for sure
The Accidental Marathoner says
I wondered what was happening when you didn’t show up in runner tracking this morning. Hoping it’s nothing too worrisome and you will be back at it in no time!
Deborah Brooks says
I hope so too thanks
Darlene S. Cardillo says
Fingers crossed that thatās itās not serious. We can reschedule that race for next year.

Deborah Brooks says
Thanks yes hope we are both running it together next year
Lisa @ TechChick Adventures says

Deborah Brooks says
Thanks Lisa I really appreciate it
Warren Footz says
file under stuff happens, and some stuff are more important than others…..there are always more ahead….a friend taught me that…stress fracture on his upper thigh….he’s lucky he didn’t sever something and made it more serious…..but, soft tissue damage meant running became too uncomfortable, so he started biking, swimming and took part in triathlons as a part of various relay teams….there’s always a future..
Deborah Brooks says
Yes, I agree thanks for the support
San says
OMG, so cool you got to meet Matt! Is he as nice as everybody says? š
Deborah Brooks says
yes he sure is
Catrina says
Sorry to hear that, Deborah. I hope you will get better news this week!!
Well done for focusing on the positive side of things.
Deborah Brooks says
Thanks Cat I am trying to
Jenn says
Oh, no! I am so sorry to hear that. I know how terrifying it can be to get those scary health results, especially when they prevent you from doing something you love. I hope you get some better results and peace of mind soon.
Deborah Brooks says
yes, it really is scary. I hope so too thanks xo
Shathiso says
I’ve missed a few weeks of blogging so didn’t see this post and the difficult news you were confronted with. I’d be so angry too. When you live such an active and healthy life, it is upsetting to get any kind of negative test result. I’m glad you went to NYC anyway – even though it wasn’t the trip you had planned. Let me read on to see if there are more updates.
Deborah Brooks says
Thanks appreciate the good vibes friend š
