Sprinting Out Of April Weekly Run Down

Thanks for joining Kim and me for the weekly run down today. Here we are in the last week of April and I am sprinting through the week. This week, I also started round 2 of the Wilpers run training program I did previously, Here is a peek into my week of fitness and running.

weekly run down

Sprinting out of April

Monday- upper body + core + stretch

I took a modified rest day today after yesterday’s 10 mile race. I skipped the cycling and lower body strength and did some some lighter upper body and core and, of course, stretching.

Tuesday- 6 mile tempo run (distance test)

This was week 1 of the Wilpers’ spring run challenge (round 2) and I am all for it. You may remember I did the 8 week winter challenge and loved it. So, today was the distance test where we were proscribed to run for 20 minutes as fast as possible. This average pace is the pace I will use for my tempo runs. I was not sure how my legs would react after Sunday’s race. After doing my proper warm-up, I jumped right into the sprinting to the finish.

I was happily surprised to see my pace had improved quite a bit since I first tried this in January. Today’s tempo pace was 45 seconds faster per mile. I was doing my happy dance!

Wednesday- upper + lower body strength + Peloton cycle + core + stretch

Always feels good to get all the scheduled workouts in. One of my Peloton classes had weighted hamstring curls which I had not done in forever. I always feel those the next day!

Thursday- 5.5 mile run

Just when you thought it was safe to put away the gloves and jackets-nope! It was a windy one but the sun was out so no complaints here.

My husband received a big award last night and I was forced had the opportunity to wear real clothes and shoes again. Wow, it has been a long time and it felt great to get back out there. A very “DC” event and it was nice to catch up with people I have not seen in years.

Friday- core + upper body strength + Peloton cycle

I was dragging a little from staying up too late but I did get in a nice upper body workout and core. I have been taking it easy on the Peloton rides and using them more as recovery rides from runs.

Saturday- rest day + stretch

Keeping up with my Saturday rest day. My husband and I did some shopping for new kitchen furniture.

Sunday- On the plan MRTT Welcome Run + coffee

It has been more than 2 years since we have had a welcome run for our MRTT group. I am really excited to meet some new members. These runs are typically more casual and shorter. This is just what I need after a busy few weeks of racing and pushing it out on the trails.

I am sprinting right out of April into a new month. Let’s do this May!

About Deborah Brooks

Hi I'm Deborah! I spend my days successfully raising a husband & 2 teens in the VA/DC area. I am a lover of all things running & fitness. As a life long vegetarian, I've always been passionate about healthy living & exercise. Looking for partners in crime, I started my own chapter of Moms Run This Town (MRTT) which has grown to over 700 members. I've met so many amazing women who inspire me daily to keep moving forward. You can usually find me running with my crew and training for the next crazy adventure they talked me into. I love to keep up to date on new running & fitness trends. I definitely choose my running gear based on color and love to express my fashion sense while exercising.

Gloves and beanie here this week.

Congrats on your continued speed improvement. I won’t be able to keep up next March.

My pace is nowhere where it used to be. But I don’t train.

However I had one fast mile last weekend so maybe there’s hope.

Isn’t it great to run with a group. The enthusiasm is contagious.

I did that weighted hamstring curl class on Thursday and definitely was feeling it the next day. Guess that means I should do them more often.
