Hot off of the presses from my visit to NYC last week! I am going to give you all the sweaty details about what it’s like to take a live Peloton class in the New York City Studio. Let’s jump right in!
What it’s like to take a live Peloton class in Studio
I’ve been a Peloton at home rider and enthusiast for two years now. I take classes at home daily between the bike, the boot camps and the strength classes.. It’s easy to become engaged with the large on line community Peloton offers. There are numerous Facebook group with specific interests (running, wine drinkers, instructor fan clubs). After participating in a few of these groups, I realized I was on a mission to make it to a live class in New York at the studio.

I studied the studio schedule to find a class that fit with my upcoming trip to NY. Registration opens at 12 pm two weeks prior to class. I registered for Kendall’s 45 minute HIIT class on a Friday morning and started counting the days. Arriving at the Peloton studio (AKA the Mother Ship) is an experience in itself.

Walking into the studio, I immediately felt the cool New York Vibe. There is a boutique in the front with the latest Peloton active wear. A smoothie and snack bar offering healthy post ride treats is nestled in the corner. i was greeted immediately and encouraged to check in for my class. Would be “Pelotoners” can come in and take sample classes on the bikes in studio anytime on their own.
I headed to the locker room to stow my gear. It’s small but ample for the amount of people. I met a bunch of nice people while waiting tor the studio to open. The door opens about 7-9 minutes before class. I arrived at my assigned bike and immediately signed into my account to get credit for my 200th class. There are a few attendants to help you set up your bike before class starts.
Kendall arrived a few minutes before class and began interacting and chatting with us all. I was in the front row and I could just feel the excitement and motivation in the room. Surprised to see that she had a “body guard” next to her for the whole class. Admittedly, I was a little nervous about taking a live class. Would I be at the bottom of the leaderboard? I did not even care! I was there!
Taking a milestone class in studio pretty much ensures you a “shout out” from the instructor. Since this was my 200th cycle class, I was excited to get that shout out from Kendall. I got it at the beginning of class and then relaxed and settled into my ride. Before I knew it, class was over and I was a sweaty, happy mess. Kendall is now one of my fave instructors too.
After class, there is an optional “photo op” with the instructor. While it sorted reminded me of the character photo ops at Disney World, I lined right up for my photo. The Peloton instructors have amassed quite a fan base and it’s quite the accomplishment to get a photo with them. I also had Kendall sign my cycle shoes. Why? I have no idea but it seemed like a good idea at the time.

Doing your milestone in a live class sounds so exciting! You’ll have to do your 300th ride there!
Was Kendall’s bodyguard on a bike as well or was he just sort of standing beside her?
I wonder what happened in the past to make that necessary.
Deborah Brooks says
He has sort of standing off to the side. I think all of them have a body guard of sorts to keep fans at a good distance during live tapings. She was super sweet after class at the picture opp
Coco says
It’s so fun that you did this! I might be disconcerted by the bodyguard but I guess all types of celebrities need security? Did Dennis sign your shoes before? You are going to have a collection of signed Peleton gear!
Deborah Brooks says
I loved it! Yes I had Denis sign my shoes at his yoga class last year. This was my first cycle class live.
Wendy says
If I were a Peloton person, I would totally have done all that too! I geek out about stuff all the time. Glad that you had such a great experience at the live studio!
Deborah Brooks says
So much energy in the room really motivated me
Darlene S. Cardillo says
After 3 years of staying in the same NYC hotel I realized they have Peleton bikes. I tried it and it was fun.
I guess I could sign up for a live class as well.
Deborah Brooks says
Yes if you ever have time do it!
Kimberly Hatting says
SO exciting! I can imagine the energy level is through the roof (or the ceiling LOL) at a live class 🙂
Deborah Brooks says
It really is!
Maureen @ Maureen Gets Real says
I’ve only take a spin class once and it wasn’t my thing which I think is because I had no idea what to do haha. A live Peloton class sounds so fun though! I feel like that’s the way to do spin class.
Deborah Brooks says
I agree that cycle classes have a learning curve to get used to the moves and instructions. Don’t write it off completely!
Laurie says
So cool that you got to visit the Peloton studio and ride with Kendall! Were they taping your class? I am not sure how that works. I would think being in a class like that would give you incentive to push yourself more than usual.
Deborah Brooks says
Yes it was a live class that was taped so I can go back anytime and take it from the archives as well
Sheila Simmons says
How much is it to take the class?
Deborah Brooks says
They offer free classes at off peak times and then there are different charges for different times of the day. Take a look at the schedule if you are going to be in town
Lacey@fairytalesandfitness says
Sounds like a fun experience. Does it cost anymore to take a live class?
Deborah Brooks says
They have some free classes at off peak times and then there are a charge for others. Check it out if you find yourself on a layover there
Katie Scott says
How fun!!! I’m so glad you got to do this! Def sounds like an experience and a great way to celebrate that milestone!
Deborah Brooks says
Loads of fun!
Elaine says
Loved how you compared it to a Disney production with standing in line for an autograph and a photo op! What an exciting opportunity though to attend a live class!!
Deborah Brooks says
ha ha it did kind of feel like that!
Jenn says
This is so awesome! Peloton really knows how to market their opportunities and I think it’s great that she signed your shoes! That’s a special memento. Congratulations on such a fabulous milestone ride!
Deborah Brooks says
It sure was a great way to celebrate a milestone
Abby Langer says
So neat that your class was taped! And that you had your shoes autographed! Pretty cool to me. 🙂
Deborah Brooks says
I thought so too!
Julie says
Oh my gosh!! How fun!! You are totally making me want one of the bikes! How long are the classes?
Deborah Brooks says
The best part is that there are classes from 10 min to an hour. It’s easy to mix them up to create the length you want. Happy to chat w you about it if you are interested in moving on it. I can’t tell you how convenient it is!
Angela Campos says
This sounds like such an awesome experience! I recently listened to a podcast on how Peloton got started and it was so interesting!!
Deborah Brooks says
Oh I will have to check that out and hear all about it
Liz Dexter says
An interesting read. A bit shocking that they have to have bodyguards, though!
Deborah Brooks says
I know really interesting!
Amy @ She Runs By Faith says
How cool!!! I have dreamed of having a peloton treadmill – this class looks like an awesome experience!

A bodyguard? For real? Wow, I had no idea. I loved this Deborah! I would have also taken my picture too. I mean, why not? My favorite instructor is Cody. Right now I am at 25 rides so maybe I can make it to NY for my 100th.
Deborah Brooks says
I hope you have the chance to take a live in studio class sometime it was amazing
