Celebrating International Women’s Day

This Friday, March 8th, is International Women’s Day. I recently learned that women all over the world have been celebrating this day for over 100 years. Yes celebrations date back to the early 1900’s in Austria and Germany. Who knew? I am taking this as an opportunity to honor all the strong women in my life.

Celebrating International Women’s Day

International Women’s Day is intended to be a day to celebrate women’s achievements and impacts. Sounds like a good day to appreciate all of the strong women I am blessed to have in my life.

You have heard me go on on about my Moms Run This Town group. I truly feel so blessed to have found a group of women who have become my closest and dear friends. These women are not just a running group. They are a group of women who support each other in good times and bad. On my best days and on my worst days, these are the women I will forever want to be part of my life.

International women's day

International Women’s Day also seems the perfect timing for the start of the spring season of Girls on The Run. Nothing warms my heart more than teaching this group of 3-6th graders how to feel more powerful and self secure. Watching them build self esteem and improve self confidence through physical accomplishments it priceless. Every season, there are a few girls who blossom over the course of the 10 weeks and it’s a fantastic process to be a part of.

International Women's Day

I am participating in the virtual Zooma Women’s Day 5K this week as another way to honor the day. Let’s all run together. Find out more here http://zoomarun.com/race/womens-day-5K/ use RUNTHEWORLDBR for 10%. Proceeds benefit Women for Women International. We do #RuntheWorld.

About Deborah Brooks

Hi I'm Deborah! I spend my days successfully raising a husband & 2 teens in the VA/DC area. I am a lover of all things running & fitness. As a life long vegetarian, I've always been passionate about healthy living & exercise. Looking for partners in crime, I started my own chapter of Moms Run This Town (MRTT) which has grown to over 700 members. I've met so many amazing women who inspire me daily to keep moving forward. You can usually find me running with my crew and training for the next crazy adventure they talked me into. I love to keep up to date on new running & fitness trends. I definitely choose my running gear based on color and love to express my fashion sense while exercising.

What a lovely post! I have a super group of running friends – the Sedate Ladies – and yes indeed, we share much more than running. But also lots of running. I love how you’re supporting girls to run, too.
