Is practicing more yoga one of your goals? I know that both my mind and my body are happier when I have more yoga in my life. Visiting a yoga studio may be on hold for a while, however with just a few essentials, you can easily create a welcoming home yoga space that brings you relaxation, peace and namasté. How to easily create your own home yoga space
It’s not necessary to have a dedicated room for your home yoga space. I’ve carved out a little nook that I find peaceful and have made that my yoga and stretching space. These are the 6 essentials I keep there to encourage myself to practice more yoga at home.
Home Yoga Mat
The foundation for all yoga and stretching poses. I prefer a thicker (1/2 inch) more cushioned mat to help my knees feel a little more comfortable. While there are many pricey mats out there, this basics mat is great quality, durable and affordable even comes with a carry strap. Available in 7 colors.

Yoga Blocks and strap
We all need a little help and support getting into certain yoga poses. If your hips and hamstrings are tight, like mine are, yoga blocks and straps are fantastic assists. My yoga strap doubles as a stretching tool after a run as well.

Yoga Towel
Keep your mat cleaner and less slippery with a towel designed especially for yoga. It is sweat resistant and quick drying. I have 2 of these and love them. Available in 7 colors.
Bolsters
Perfect for Savasana, Restorative yoga, meditation, and just relaxing, yoga bolsters or pillows are a great addition to your collection. Available in 6 colors.
Scents and Smells
Having a few scented candles and or a diffuser in your yoga nook, adds extra sensory comfort.
Yoga Wheel
A fun addition to any home yoga space. This set of 3 different sized yoga wheels come in their own storage bag. Get extra support to hold poses or use like a foam roller on sore muscles.

Post-run, post-workout, or anytime, yoga does a body and mind good. Hope my ideas give you some inspiration to create your own home yoga space. Cheers to more Namasté and Savasana in 2021.

Your yoga space looks so cozy! Much more appealing than the yoga studio I used to go to. Do you do yoga with the help of a video?
Deborah Brooks says
When I do yoga at home I use either the Peloton yoga or youtube videos. There is so much free content out there now to choose from
Renée says
sounds like a perfectly created space (including the tees, because hey, we need to look cute too am I right??)! We have a small room for our movements space so I have the basics for pilates (and yoga the few times I’ve tried it). Which really makes me feel like I want to do more with the practice than just have that stuff collecting dust!
Deborah Brooks says
Of course we need cute tees! Sounds like someone will be doing more yoga in 2020 too

My house is more of an “open concept” dwelling LOL…hard to find specific space for anything. I’m usually in the downstairs hallway because it’s away from everything, or else I’m on the rug in front of the fireplace (with Max hovering nearby). I need to focus on making yoga a more consistent routine this year…thanks for the inspiration!
Deborah Brooks says
You bet! Look forward to seeing some yoga pics in 2020

I’ve never thought of using scents and smells! What a brilliant idea – funny how setting the scene or even wearing a nice outfit inspires one to get down and do the workout.
Deborah Brooks says
It really does help for me!
Rachel says
Your yoga space looks so relaxing. My yoga space is crowded with BOSU balls and kettlebells. I hope to have a dedicated spot one day but our house is such a weird set up that I don’t even know if it would happen here. Happy New Year! <3
Deborah Brooks says
It is a relaxing spot for me. Happy new year to you too
Marcia says
Your yoga space looks so cozy! My yoga stuff is in the downstairs pain cave. My biggest challenge is being interrupted by the dog. If I don’t let him in he scratches on the door. Not very zen. 😛
Deborah Brooks says
Ha yes I can see how that can happen! Maybe you can teach him how to down dog 🙂
Janelle @ Run With No Regrets says
This is great! I have to admit that while I do have a good yoga mat, I don’t have blocks or any other equipment to feasibly practice at home. I appreciate the recommendations!
Deborah Brooks says
Thanks hope I gave you some ideas to try
Debbie Woodruff says
I have all of the essentials, just no space! At least where there aren’t any dogs helping me with my poses lol.
Deborah Brooks says
Maybe they can learn to down dog with you 🙂
Kim G says
I love your at home yoga space – it looks so peaceful!
Deborah Brooks says
It’s very peaceful I just need to do it more
Coco says
Great suggestions for gear. I’m considering trying a new yoga mat. I’ve had mine for years ….
Deborah Brooks says
I have a thick lulu one that I use for CPY but I really love the Amazon basics one at home. I use it for yoga and my reg workouts
Jenn says
Great tips. I’m going to need to do some more yoga once I get the boot off and can turn my leg a little more.
I have the mat and the space, but I just don’t like doing yoga at home as much as I do in the studio.
Deborah Brooks says
I can see that for sure. It is nice to have options though
Zenaida Arroyo says
I love your yoga space. Looks so easy with a few basic items. I definitely do not have room now but for sure would like to make room for it when I move. Cross your fingers it will happen this year!
Deborah Brooks says
That’s a great goal!
CAri says
My 2020 goal: actually put away the drying rack so I can have a yoga space. LOL.
Deborah Brooks says
Yay I like that one! I always feel better when I have more yoga in my life. Now to find time for it
Farrah says
hehehe, I’m really good at napping during the savasana! That yoga towel is super pretty and your yoga space looks so relaxing!
Deborah Brooks says
I have fallen asleep myself during Savasana 🙂
Debbie @ Deb Runs says
I like the idea of having a yoga bolster. I just roll up my yoga blanket or grab a pillow off the sofa, but I bet the bolster is just the right size and thickness to be quite comfortable.
Deborah Brooks says
Yes it’s a really nice addition
