Ever find yourself staring at the options in the airport newsstand wondering what healthy snacks to eat? It can be very difficult to find good-for-you snacks not to mention that they are ridiculously overpriced. Not to worry, I’ve got you. Check out my 5 Healthy Protein-Packed Travel-Friendly Snacks. These will keep you full as you fly the friendly skies. Having these snacks with me on my recent travels, were a lifesaver.
5 Healthy Protein-Packed Travel Friendly Snacks
With a little pre-planning, it’s easy to eat well while flying. Here are my go to ideas along with my best hacks. Pack a few of these for your next trip and save the splurging for the great restaurants at your destination. With crazy flight delays these days, it pays to be prepared.
Yogurt, Cheese, and Hard Boiled Eggs
My best hack is this: Freeze your favorite Greek yogurt and a few low-fat cheese sticks. Place them in a plastic bag or small reusable lunch bag with a few peeled hard boiled eggs The yogurt will act as an ice pack to keep your eggs cool. You now have 3 protein packed, healthy snacks to enjoy on your plane ride. Update: yes, you can get through security with frozen Greek Yogurt. I do it all the time!
Protein Oatmeal Cups
These easy to pack, single serve oatmeal cups are loaded with 20 grams of protein. Low in sugar and gluten free. Simply ask for a cup of hot water, mix and enjoy. Airlines offer tea so they will give you hot water. Bring along a banana and or slice it right in (and even a peanut butter pack) and you are all set. Bring along your own travel friendly spoon.
Special K High Protein Cereal
Measure out your desired serving of this15 grams of high protein cereal in a reusable container and ask for some milk on your flight. Or, just purchase some milk at the airport after you go through security. You can also purchase a cup of milk at any coffee shop. Add in a banana or some berries and you’ve got a filling meal.
Bada Bean
Looking for something salty and crunchy? These dried broad beans are filling and tasty. Perfectly sized for travel. Available in single serve packs.
High Protein Granola Bars
Not all protein bars are created equal. Many contain lots of sugar, fat, and often sugar alcohols. This one has 12-14 grams of protein without all the bad stuff added in.
With a little pre-planning it’s easier than ever to stick to your good eating habits while on the road. What you do when you get there is up to you!

Great ideas. I’ve had yogurt confiscated by TSA but it wasn’t frozen ….
Deborah Brooks says
really? I have brought yogurt a number of times. Probably just depends on who is searching your luggage. I will try it again next week and see what happens

I like that yogurt hack! I often grab those Kind protein bars, but it’s nice to have other options.
Deborah Brooks says
yes it is always nice to have options

I would definitely expect unfrozen yogurt to be confiscated. I definitely always have snacks with me! But it’s been a very, very long time since I’ve flown anywhere.
All great tips, Deborah!

Weirdly, I hate eating on planes, so I try to avoid it if I can. However, these seem small and discreet and might just work, if I ever fly again!

Ugh, it is SO HARD to come up with portable vegan snacks that are high in protein and low in sugar! Luckily my next trip is a road trip, so i have more options. Peanut butter, tofu and ezekial bread will be in my snack bag. I really have to come up with more options though. The Bada Bean snacks look good!
Deborah Brooks says
I think you would really like the Bada beans and have you tried dried edamame?

Fig bars or granola bars are always in my bag.
I love protein oatmeal cups… so easy to make in a hotel Keurig.

Oh, I love the oatmeal idea! I was going to buy a bag of mixed nuts on my Cherry Blossom trip, and the checker leaned over and asked me if seen the bag cost $15! No, I had not seen a displayed price, so I thanked her for the heads-up, LOL. Ridiculous how pricey airport snacks are!
Deborah Brooks says
So expensive! I just keep around all the go to’s so I have them when I need them
Debbie says
Great tips – I always struggle with good protein snack options.
Deborah Brooks says
It can be a challenge for sure!

What a great idea with the frozen yogurt and boiled eggs!
So much healthier than the food provided on the plane. At least you know what you get! I will definitely try that out.

It is one of my go to options

I do alot of granola bars when I travel. That and any snacks that are kid friendly!
Deborah Brooks says
They are easy to travel with

All these are great ideas. I usually bring a vegan breakfast burrito if I’m flying in the morning or a sandwich for the afternoon. Most of the stuff you can get at the airport is just junk.
Deborah Brooks says
agreed it’s better to bring your own if possible
Jenn says
All great suggestions!
I am usually pretty bad about grabbing a snack to go, but it’s not a bad idea to add to the to-do list.
