5 Fitness Trends I’d Love To Try

Happy Friday Fitness Friends! I took some liberties with the Friday Five topic today. Instead of 5 Fitness trends I would never try, I went with 5 Fitness Trends I’d Love to Try. Hey I will try almost anything once 🙂

Fitness Trends|orange theory|city running tours|exercise

1. Orange Theory– Everyone is raving about this and we now have one in my area. It’s a heart rate based, interval training class that uses treadmills, rowing machines and weights. Each workout is different and tailored to your own heart rate. Can’t believe I  haven’t tried it yet. Honestly, it kind of scares me.

2. Yoga Hikes DC Combining the cardio of hiking and the benefits of yoga all in one in the beautiful outdoors of DC. 90 minute classes are held in Rock Creek Park. This sounds like it would be so much fun to do with friends or family. On my list for sure.

5 fitness trends I’d like to try-What’s on your list?

3. City Running Tours-I have always thought that the best way to see a new city is to run or walk through it. I’ve heard of people having amazing times getting to see a city through City Running tours. I think it would also be a great way to see my own city. As I live in the burbs, in Virginia, I actually do not run in DC very often-but I could! They do group and individual tours right now in 18 cities around the country.

4. Aerial Yoga- Ok so there is no way I would really be good at this but how cool does it look? I took some trapeze classes a few months ago and it was so much fun and scary at the same time. I’d love to try it sometime.

5. Podcasts-Ok so not a fitness trend per se but I have never listened to a podcast! I keep hearing about all of these great podcasts and I wouldn’t even know where to start. I imagine they can become addictive.

My goal is to check off a few of these over the next few months. Where to start?!

What fitness trends are you wanting to try? Have you tried anything on my list?

Happy to be linking up with my friends Courtney, Cynthia & Mar so please stop by and check out their blogs too. Have a great weekend!

Never heard of Orange Theory? Things take a while to trickle down to Africa, lol!

I’ve done a running tour in Cape Town, though – loved it!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      07/10/2015 at 7:15 am

Ooh that does sound cool! It takes a while for the fitness trends to get to DC too. All the NYC and LA peeps get all the cool stuff.

  2. Kathryn @ Dancing to Running says

    07/10/2015 at 6:18 am

I have yet to give listening to Podcasts while working out a try, but there are so many people who swear by it. It sounds similar to the idea of listening to a book on tape.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      07/10/2015 at 7:18 am

I guess that makes sense yes. I wouldn’t know where to start!

  3. Mary Long says

    07/10/2015 at 7:11 am

I would love to try aerial yoga! If they ever get a location in my area, I’m there! I kinda already do hiking and yoga on my own. There’s nothing like a good stretch in the middle of a forest half way through a long hike!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      07/10/2015 at 7:20 am

Now you would be good at it!!

  4. Mary Beth Jackson says

    07/10/2015 at 7:50 am

I think you will love the aerial yoga, it is so much fun! OTF does scare me that is why I can’t wait for it to open 🙂 nothing ventured nothing gained. The hike yoga class sounds wonderful! I hope you try them all!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      07/10/2015 at 11:16 am

I hope I try them all too! So much to do so little time!

  5. Chaitali says

    07/10/2015 at 8:17 am

Ooh… I’d love to try the yoga hikes and the running tours. They sound great! I really enjoyed aerial yoga. It was a lot of fun 🙂

    • Deborah Brooks says

      07/10/2015 at 11:33 am

      It looks really hard!

  6. Debbie @ Coach Debbie Runs says

    07/10/2015 at 8:22 am

I LOVE aerial yoga!!!!! I’ve actually only tried it twice, when I was at fitness conventions, because we don’t have anything available near where I live, but I would totally pay to take classes regularly. IT. IS. AWESOME!!! (can you see I like it?)

I think the running tours sound like a lot of fun too. I’ve had the good fortune to explore Paris, Florance, and a few other amazing cities on the run, and I think it’s the best way to see a city.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      07/10/2015 at 11:36 am

Yes the aerial yoga looks so cool and really hard! I know they have it around here so I just have to do it. Agree running in a city is the best way to see it.

  7. Jamie says

    07/10/2015 at 8:57 am

I’m hoping to try OrangeTheory this weekend! I’ve heard great things – I will definitely let you know how it goes 🙂 And I did a City Running Tour while I was living in Philadelphia for graduate school. I was slightly underwhelmed but that was just my personal experience 🙂 Hope you have a fabulous weekend!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      07/10/2015 at 11:38 am

Yes let me know about Orange theory it kind of scares me!

  8. Janine @ travel, run, live says

I love your spin on the topic. I’m also on the bandwagon of trying anything once. Anything yoga related is always on my list. And I’ve never heard of orange theory until now, sounds interesting!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      07/10/2015 at 11:42 am

Thanks! The yoga hikes do look fun don’t they? I like trying new things and mixing it up 🙂

  9. Kelli says

    07/10/2015 at 9:46 am

Yoga hiking sounds super cool! I will make an early confession about something I thought I’d never try but now warming up to – Mountain Biking. I have my son to that for this. Mountain bike on order and I may slightly adjust my race schedule to try an Xterra off-road tri this summer.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      07/10/2015 at 11:46 am

oh really?! Mpuntain biking kind of scares me a little.

  10. Nicole @ Fitful Focus says

    07/10/2015 at 10:02 am

There is an Orange Theory right by my office that I want to try. Also, checking out City Running Tours now. I hope they’re in NYC! And podcasts – I love them! One of my faves is “Wait, Wait… Don’t Tell Me.” It makes me laugh out loud as I’m running 🙂

    • Deborah Brooks says

      07/10/2015 at 11:47 am

Orange theory sounds very intense I am kind of scared-you first!

  11. Jess @hellotofit says

    07/10/2015 at 10:39 am

I JUST tried aerial yoga a couple days ago – it’s AMAZING!! And I’d love to try Orangetheory and the yoga hike, too.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      07/10/2015 at 11:47 am

You look like you would be good at aerial yoga. Orange theory scares me which means I need to try it 🙂

      They sound fun don’t they?!

  13. Anne says

    07/10/2015 at 11:10 am

Thank you for this post! I would love to try a running tour of DC — I’m in NOVA, too, so it should be easy. And I’m taking my daughter to her college orientation this weekend — for the parents, they have an early-morning running tour of the campus. They say they started doing it a couple of years ago and it’s one of the most popular events of orientation weekend. Very excited!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      07/10/2015 at 11:58 am

wow an early morning running tour of the campus? I love that! My daughter is going to IU this fall and I am looking forward to running up there in Indiana.

  14. HoHo Runs says

    07/10/2015 at 11:27 am

I’m glad I’m not the only person who hasn’t listened to a podcast! Your list is quite appealing. Nothing weird! I would try any of these. The aerial yoga would be a challenge! I’m sure I would not be very graceful.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      07/10/2015 at 12:01 pm

oh I am so not graceful at all! I am sure it would be quite amusing 🙂

  15. Sharon says

    07/10/2015 at 11:33 am

Great list! Although not too sure about aerial yoga. That seems a bit scary for me. :p Orange Theory is something I would love to try and City Running tours sound fun!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      07/10/2015 at 12:04 pm

Orange theory looks so scary but I guess that means I should try it right?

  16. Sue @ This Mama Runs for Cupcakes says

    07/10/2015 at 12:25 pm

Ha! Great minds…I went the same direction with my post 🙂 The Aerial yoga sounds like fun but scary!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      07/10/2015 at 1:51 pm

I know I would suck at it but It’s always fun to try something new right?

  17. Samantha says

    07/10/2015 at 12:34 pm

I too am really wanting to try OrangeTheory but am slightly intimidated! Aerial yoga also sounds like a fun workout. I haven’t heard of city running tours but that would be an ideal way to see a city! When I travel I always try to get one run in at least. I have stumbled across some great spots that way.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      07/10/2015 at 1:52 pm

I am intimidated by Orange Theory as well. I think we should both give it a go!

  18. Karen - Fit in France says

    07/10/2015 at 12:48 pm

I haven’t heard of Orange Theory… hmmmm. I would love to try a running tour. Aerial yoga ? Not for me. Have a great weekend !

    • Deborah Brooks says

  19. [email protected] says

    07/10/2015 at 12:49 pm

I have never listened to a podcast either. I have always wanted to. I’m sure it will make your run fly by. It would be so fun to do a city running tour. I will have to look into that.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      07/10/2015 at 1:55 pm

I know I need to check out the pod casts for sure!

  20. Julie @ Running in a Skirt says

    07/10/2015 at 1:03 pm

I would love to try ariel yoga AND Running Tours. I usually do an unofficial running tour of a new location, but it consists of me following directions on my phone! haha! A real tour always sounds fun.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      07/10/2015 at 1:57 pm

I know a real running tour does sound fun doesn’t it? I am going to check it out

  21. Samantha says

    07/10/2015 at 1:21 pm

I have been dying to try an OrangeTheory class for awhile now but I am slightly intimidated! Aerial yoga sounds like a very fun workout. I like the idea of city running tours- when I am traveling I make sure to run at least once in a city because I have stumbled upon some great spots that way. Have a great weekend!

  22. Erica @ Erica Finds says

    07/10/2015 at 5:44 pm

The running tours and hikes look awesome. I LOVE to run with podcasts. My faves are Serial, This American Life, the Moth, Start Up, Reply All, Death Sex + Money and TED Radio Hour. I am addicted and now I have got my husband listening to some, too!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      07/10/2015 at 7:27 pm

oh wow I am going to have to check those all out thanks!

  23. GiselleR @ Diary of an ExSloth says

    07/10/2015 at 7:30 pm

All of these seem like really fun. I’m not sure I could make it through an aerial yoga class since I’m afraid of heights, but I’d still give it a try lol

    • Deborah Brooks says

      07/11/2015 at 8:28 am

Oh I am sure it wouldn’t be so graceful for me either!

  24. Coco says

    07/10/2015 at 7:35 pm

I’m definitely up for OTF when my foot gets better. I’ve never heard of the hiking/yoga – I could do that now. 😉

    • Deborah Brooks says

      07/11/2015 at 8:28 am

  25. Wendy@Taking the Long Way Home says

But I have to say no to aerial yoga…

    • Deborah Brooks says

  26. Natalie says

    07/10/2015 at 8:41 pm

There is an Orange Theory so close to me and I have been dying to try it! That is on my list for sure. The Ariel Yoga looks cool, but I think I would look silly doing it. Ha ha! I would try it though!
The Yoga and hike for sure I would try! I am 90% sure I’ll be in DC for Thanksgiving this year – maybe we can try it together?!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      07/11/2015 at 8:29 am

ooh so excited that you are coming to DC!! Remind me as we get closer and yes we will do something and you will be all better by then!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      07/11/2015 at 8:33 am

I really like hot yoga in the winter time but for me it’s just too hot right now and I’d rather be outside.

  30. Kate @KateMovingForward says

    07/11/2015 at 1:07 pm

I love that Yoga-Hiking combo! I would be ALL over that!! I wish there was an Orange Theory near me, but it does look scary! My favorite podcast is Chalene Johnson–she’s awesome!

  34. Elle says

    07/12/2015 at 10:44 am

    • Deborah Brooks says

      07/12/2015 at 2:07 pm

      That place scares me too!

  35. Jennifer says

    • Deborah Brooks says

      07/14/2015 at 10:31 am

I know! I never run in DC!

  38. Karen says

    07/23/2015 at 9:23 am

Deborah, I joined OTF when it opened in Ballston, and have now been going for 2 weeks (so 6 times total). I love it. It is hard, but it’s hard at your own pace. To be honest, the first time I felt a little sick at the end of class, but since then I only feel energized. What is great about it for me is that you go and have a very high-energy, motivational trainer tell you exactly what to do for one hour. I leave totally soaked with sweat and knowing I’ve had an awesome workout.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      07/23/2015 at 9:57 am

It sounds amazing! I hear really good things about it. Maybe I will meet you there one day after tri season is over. 🙂

      • Karen says

        08/06/2015 at 1:00 pm

        I would love that!
