Happy Friday! Ok this is my last Ragnar I promise! I am linking up with Courtney, Cynthia and Mar for Friday Five.
While doing our Ragnar race last week, our team noticed that we all had some of the same crazy thoughts throughout our 36 hour adventure. I am wondering whether some of you have had similar thoughts at one time or another while racing?
1. “I hate running, why the ____ am I doing this?” Then…”I love running so much! This is amazing”.
2. “I will never forgive you all for talking me into this! What was I thinking?” Then…”I love you guys! Thanks for convincing me to sign up for this.”
3. “I am so tired. I think I am sleeping with my eyes open, standing up”. Then…”I am not tired at all! I could run like this forever.”
4. “Why in the world did I ever agree to run at 2:30 in the morning? I must be out of my mind!” Then…”Running in the night is so cool! I wish I could do this all the time.”
5. “I am never doing another Relay Race again. This is insane!” Then…When can we sign up for another one?”
What crazy thoughts have you had while running? Happy Friday!
Kelli says
I so get this, I remember trying to do my business in a dark porta potty at 3:30 AM after about 15 minutes of sleep and being so grumpy about a 10 mile leg at 4-something AM. But then ended up having one of my best runs ever! Ragnar is awesome.
Deborah Brooks says
exactly! Lots of competing crazy thoughts in your head
jill conyers says
haha gotta love the truth in humor 🙂
Happy Friday!
Deborah Brooks says

Susie @ SuzLyfe says
Often my thoughts are about headwinds, lol. Also, OMG I’m flagging OMG I LOVE THIS SONG
Deborah Brooks says
We were also obsessed with “shut up and dance with me” the whole weekend and had a car dance LOL
Sue @ This Mama Runs for Cupcakes says
Yep, exactly what goes through my head!
Deborah Brooks says
So true! We are a little crazy 🙂
Kathryn @ Dancing to Running says
I’ve often had thought #1, especially during a difficult training run or race. I always try and remind myself of the good days and good races when I’m facing difficulty.
Deborah Brooks says
yes some silly back and forth thoughts always go through my head
Chaitali says
Ha ha, this is so true! I don’t know why but I always start races with the why am I doing this thoughts and I always end with the I love this thoughts!
Deborah Brooks says
I know we are all crazy! 🙂
Amy @ Running on Faith and Coffee says
I am sure I will have most of these thoughts during my first Half tomorrow morning. Kudos to you for doing a Ragnar! I had to look it up online with all the Ragnar talk going around. It looks brutal!
Deborah Brooks says
Good luck tomorrow! Ragnar is a blast I can’t wait to do another one. Look forward to connecting!
Amy @ Running on Faith and Coffee says
Thanks so much!!! I’m not worrying about my time, just out to finish and have a good time.
Deborah Brooks says
That’s the best way to go! have fun that’s what it’s all about 🙂
Beverley Cheng says
Bahahah this is sooo accurate! Except – i have NEVER ran at 2:30 in the morning. Have you?! Sounds cold… but also really fun.
Deborah Brooks says
Yes one time at Ragnar last weekend!!
Annmarie says
All of this is SO true! Love Ragnar and the Rag-nover is really a thing!!! 😛
Deborah Brooks says
I know I am kind of sad it’s over. I can’t do the DC one this year bc of a family wedding. I mean seriously who plans their wedding that day 🙂
Jess @hellotofit says
These are awesome. I always think, “gah I hate running i need to stop” while I’m running, then totally love the good feeling afterwards! Happy Friday 🙂
Deborah Brooks says
I know me too! Us runners are a little wacky
Tara @ Running 'N' Reading says
HA! This is SO awesome, Deborah! I have yet to participate in a Ragnar race, but I plan to do it one of these days! Having listened to other participants discuss their “adventures,” I think this list is pretty spot-on! Thanks for sharing this; hope you have a great weekend!
Deborah Brooks says
I hope you have the chance to do one sometime. It really is a one of a kind experience. It’s hard to describe.
Karen - Fit in France says
Great idea for a post ! Crazy thoughts while running ?
Didn’t I pass that person 5 times already ?
Can you please keep your dog on a leash or else I will trip over it and it will not be my fault.
I really should have peed one more time.
I wish I had my phone, that would be a great picture.
That guy is kind of spooky.
does my butt look like that ?
LOL…
Deborah Brooks says
ha ha yes those are great too! Have a nice weekend 🙂
Laura @ Sprint 2 the Table says
Hahaha! I’ve had everyone of these thoughts… except maybe the 2:30a one. Just make me want to try this relay more!!!
Deborah Brooks says
See now there is another reason to do one!
Meranda@Fairytalesandfitness says
When I run disney races I always wonder why I sign up for something where I have to be up at 3 am. Then crossing the finish line makes it all worth it!
Deborah Brooks says
Ha ha that’s one of the reasons I have not signed up for one yet!
Wendy@Taking the Long Way Home says
Every time I run a race I have these thoughts! Then I cross the finish line and I’m so glad I did it!
Deborah Brooks says
I know we are a perplexing bunch!
HoHo Runs says
I wonder how old she is? And, how old is she? I hope she’s not in my age group…stuff like that!
Deborah Brooks says
Ha yes forgot about that too!
Haley says
I cannot wait until my little man is weaned so I can do another Ragnar.
My absolute favorite memory from Ragnar Napa is running in the middle of the night through the rain. It sucked and was so invigorating at the same time. Reading your posts have go me itching to do another one soon.
Deborah Brooks says
We were talking about doing Napa in 2016. I bet it’s gorgeous. Hope you get to do another soon too!
Natalie says
Ha! This is awesome!! I can’t wait to do Ragnar – I know I’ll be thinking those thoughts!!!
Have a great weekend!
Deborah Brooks says
We all do!
Akaleistar says
Haha, I’ve had some of those thoughts, too!
Deborah Brooks says
I think we all have!
Jen says
Number one definitely. Then there’s the pre-race thought when the alarm goes off at 4am and you wonder what will happen if you just stay in bed and skip this one race…
Deborah Brooks says
ha oh yes the alarm clock question too! Thanks for stopping in!
Coco says
Love it!
Deborah Brooks says
Thanks!
Kim says
Funny and true that the thoughts tend to be opposites at the same time or through-out the race!!!
Deborah Brooks says
I know! We are a little crazy aren’t we?!
Mary Beth Jackson says
Funny! I would be so nervous about running at 2:30 in the morning that once I got past that I would probably be thinking the whole time, what if I need to pee? 🙂
Deborah Brooks says
I was really nervous too! Don’t have much experience with that myself.
Courtney @ Eat Pray Run DC says
hahaha, the dueling runner brain is always present!
Deborah Brooks says
I know isn’t it!
Debbie @ Coach Debbie Runs says
Haha! This is so true! I loved everything about my Ragnar, though not necessarily at the time I was doing it 🙂 Except running in the middle of the night. I loved every moment of that!
Deborah Brooks says
It was my first time running in the night and I was so nervous!
Tricia @ A Couple Of Dashes says
I love this! Ahhh the things only a runner can understand! 🙂
Deborah Brooks says
I know we are a little wacky at times!
Debbie @ Deb Runs says
Oh my goodness, these are so true! I love the Ragnar definition so much I pinned it to my Ragnar board! 🙂
Deborah Brooks says
Thanks! We are a crazy bunch aren’t we?!
