Thanks for joining Kim and me for the Weekly Run Down. This weekend is the Brooks Running Hype Fest in California. I wasn’t able to make it in person with Michelle and Wendy this year, However, I took part in a few fun virtual events.
What’s all the Hype About?
Sunday- Peloton in studio strength + walking 5 miles
Yes! I did finally get off the waitlist and into the Peloton class. I had a blast and you can read all about it here. We also got in some more walking miles before taking the Amtrak home to DC. My back/top of glutes are still not so happy with me.
Monday- 3.5 mile run + yoga and stretching
I was pretty tight after so much walking in NYC, the intense strength class and sitting on the train. After a great night’s sleep, I went out for a morning Peloton walk and then took advantage of some of the yoga content.
Tuesday- 3 mile run intervals + 1.5 mile walk + Peloton stretch/yoga/mobility
The humidity was 90% and it was already in the 80’s by 8 am. We bailed on our run at 3 miles and ducked into a coffee shop for some iced tea. No regrets it was pretty brutal out there. I came home and did a few stretch classes including a great yoga for feet.
Wednesday- 1.75 m walk + upper & lower body strength + core + cycle class + 2 mile walk
It was so much nicer out this morning I could not pass up a warm up walk before heading to do my strength workout upstairs. Later, I had an afternoon walk with a neighbor. Solid workout day.
I started a “stretch of the day” series where I will share an easy stretch every week. Find today’s here on IG.

Thursday- 4 mile run/walk + stretch + afternoon walk 2 miles
Touching it out on another super hot and humid morning. While I still can’t really keep up with my squad, it’s nice to know they are nearby! Later, had an afternoon iced tea walk with a friend.
Friday- 2 mile walk + core + upper body + strength
Today starts the Brooks Hype Fest in LA. Sadly, I was not able to join Michelle and Wendy and the other Brooks Run Happy Team members in person. Too much travel lately! Luckily, there is also a virtual option which allows me to get in on some of the fun via Zoom and IG etc.
This morning’s walk helped me finish the Brooks Run Club scavenger hunt. Later, I hopped in on a zoom to see the inner workings of the Brooks Run Research lab and a sneak peek into some new products. I missed the virtual happy hour as we had tickets to the Phillies & Nats game in DC.
Saturday-2.75 m walk + rest day
I could not pass up the gorgeous weather for a morning walk. I had serious FOMO that I was not in Cali with Wendy and Michelle for the Brooks Hype Fest. We did have a fun FT call while they walked to the beach.

Another busy active week.
You have done so much traveling. Glad you could participate virtually.
I haven’t gone to a baseball game in years.
Deborah Brooks says
We have done a lot of traveling and some more coming up in September. I was ok w missing the Brooks event but definitely had FOMO
Marcia says
Looks like a week of fun! Glad you could participate in the Hype fest virtually so you didn’t totally miss out. Glad you made it into the studio with Andy Speer! Yay!
Deborah Brooks says
Making it into the class was the highlight of our NYC trip and my week for sure!
Cari says
I loved seeing the scavenger hunt all over my feed, so fun.
This weather was all over the place this week. Iced tea was much safer than powering through, even with your crew nearby.
Deborah Brooks says
iced tea was definitely the right choice that day!

That’s too bad you weren’t able to go to CA — but you are still plenty busy with travel & fun things!
I bet it’s not long before you’re back really running with your friends.
Deborah Brooks says
Working my way back slowly but I am determined!
Jessie says
Oh, I have to read your post about the strength class at Peloton. I’ve done 2 tread classes here in London, but that’s it. I should try a strength one, especially if its a longer one (as you know, it’s a lot of time, with the early check-in, etc.) but totally worth it! So glad you got in and had a good time Deborah! Thanks for hosting the link-up!
Deborah Brooks says
Definitely worth it but crazy to get in!
Jenny says
Yes, I can see how going out to California right now wouldn’t really fit in with your other plans. I’m sure you had a little FOMO, but you’re probably still riding the high of getting into that Peloton class! you can’t do everything, and LA is a pretty long trip. That scavenger hunt looks fun and yay you went to a baseball game!!!
Deborah Brooks says
you cannot do everything especially in the same week 🙂
Liz Dexter says
Glad you got to go to your Peloton class and also you could join the Brooks event virtually – they do seem so inclusive.
Deborah Brooks says
they sure do a great job at that
Coco says
Glad to see back to running even if you aren’t doing what you did before.
I’m so glad you got into Andy’s class and loved your post about it!
Deborah Brooks says
Me too thanks
San says
So cool you could attend the Brooks Hype virtually. I applied for the Brooks Run Happy Team but sadly didn’t make it… it all sounds like so much fun!
San says
Ugh, it sounds like your temps were pretty brutal too… we had 4 days in the triple digits and it was pretty humid for CA, but your humidity is another level!
Deborah Brooks says
It definitely is!
Deborah Brooks says
It’s been a great experience the past few years!
melissa says
Great job staying so active even with the heat and humidity. And yay for snagging that Peloton class- that must have been so cool! hope your body is feeling back to normal after all the time on your feet and the train.
Deborah Brooks says
I am feeling back to normal and ready to take on the week ahead
Kimberly Hatting says
It’s great they have the virtual stuff to go along with the in-person Hype Fest…not ideal, but definitely a fun option if you can’t be there in person. Shoot, I need to find that foot yoga class! My feet could use a little TLC 😉
Deborah Brooks says
OH yes the foot yoga class is great. I can send you a link if you don’t see it let me know
Susanne says
Good fitness work this week! And how good for you to join that live Peloton class! How fun! I’m glad also that there was some virtual option for the Brooks event. Yay for technology – at least in this context.
I certainly wouldn’t mind 80F at 8 am. It’s summer, bring on some summer weather!
Deborah Brooks says
it is really the humidity that is a killer around here!
Debbie says
How great that you were able to get into the Peloton live class! Bummer that you couldn’t attend Brooks HypeFest, but great that you could do some virtual events. 🙂
Deborah Brooks says
It was nice they offered us some great virtual options
Lisa @ TechChick Adventures says
How cool you got into the Peloton class!! Funny story about stretching – one morning last week I was stretching and yawning as I woke up, and then it felt like I pulled a muscle in my neck! (because, why not. ughhhh). I have been very cautious on how I do my morning stretch every since then. 😂
Deborah Brooks says
ha ha yes I can see that happening!
Black Knight says
Another good week of training despite the brutal weather. It’s not easy to follow a program in such conditions.
My wife in September (after her retirement) will follow a course of yoga, I hope she likes it.
Here the heat wave is back and we are under weather alert for the hot temps.
Deborah Brooks says
hope you wife is okay and she recovers well. Xoxo
Jenn says
Even if you weren’t at Hype Fest in person, it still looks like you had a great week!
Deborah Brooks says
I did thanks!
