What to do with all those Race T-shirts?-Project Repat

You signed up, you trained, you ran and you got the Race T-shirt. Repeat a couple dozen times and you may have something that looks like this:

IMG_3334

Where to store all of this? Are you really going to wear these shirts? All of my shirts have memories tied to them and I was reluctant to just give them away. First half, first tri, first relay etc. What’s a runner to do? Enter Project Repat

Project Repat logo

Preserve your race memories by turning your well earned shirts into a quilt that lasts forever. The process is simple and fast. Simply select your shirts, pick a size and send them off to Project Repat. There is very little prep involved. If your shirt only has writing on one side, no need to cut it at all. If your shirt has logos or writing on both sides, simple cut in half and only send the side you wish you use. Project Repat will size your shirts to fit your desired size quilt. Quilt sizes range from lap size to king size.

Project Repat Review

Use this guide to determine how many shirts or shirt sides are needed for your design.

You will have a choice of the fleece color on the back. (Magenta, black, navy, gray, lt blue or red) I chose magenta. I sent my precious tees in and excitedly waited for my quilt to arrive. The website says your quilt will arrive within 2-3 weeks. I received mine just over a week later and tada!

Project Repat quilt

I received my full sized quilt free of charge in exchange for a review, however all opinions are my own. As you can see I am beyond thrilled with my quilt. I love the super soft fleece on the back. The quilt is very well made and I plan to be snuggling up with it for years to come.

Project Repat quilt review

The prices for the quilts range from $59 for the lap size to $239 for the King size. My readers can use code “MotherRunner” for 15%.

The possibilities are endless here really. Create a quilt with your Alma Mater gear, your kids old t shirts or your favorite sports teams. This makes a great holiday gift for any runner or athlete. Attention spouses: Gift cards are also available so you don’t have to decide which shirts to steal from your runner. Now how to keep mine away from the rest of the family?

Preserve those t shirts forever and stay warm-it’s a win win!!

About Deborah Brooks

Hi I'm Deborah! I spend my days successfully raising a husband & 2 teens in the VA/DC area. I am a lover of all things running & fitness. As a life long vegetarian, I've always been passionate about healthy living & exercise. Looking for partners in crime, I started my own chapter of Moms Run This Town (MRTT) which has grown to over 700 members. I've met so many amazing women who inspire me daily to keep moving forward. You can usually find me running with my crew and training for the next crazy adventure they talked me into. I love to keep up to date on new running & fitness trends. I definitely choose my running gear based on color and love to express my fashion sense while exercising.

Good idea! Thankfully, my mother in law is a HUGE quilter….aka has the giant $30,000 machine in her basement, and she is busy making me one! Love that pic of you! That could be in a magazine for quilting! One happy customer!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      10/17/2014 at 2:31 pm

Well you could wall paper your office wall with a bunch of quilts! How cool would that look? Thanks for stopping by 🙂

I wear mine around the house a bit but I am also saving them – my mother-in-law keeps trying to teach me to sew and I want to make a t-shirt quilt out of all of them as well 🙂

    • Deborah Brooks says

      10/17/2014 at 2:31 pm

I have no talent in that area at all! Post a pic if you end up doing it.

    10/17/2014 at 1:48 pm

This is such a cute idea! I also love it for college tshirts- I have so many from various events from being in college and now working at one- I would love to upcycle them like this! Thanks for the discount 😉

    • Deborah Brooks says

      10/17/2014 at 2:32 pm

  19. Sandra Laflamme says

    • Deborah Brooks says

      10/17/2014 at 2:32 pm

They look great I’m really happy to have it and happy to have more space in my drawers

  20. Rachel says

    10/17/2014 at 2:33 pm

I was juuuuust talking about doing this with a friend of mine! I don’t own a sewing machine (she does) so we were going to attempt. But this sounds like a much more foolproof way to go! Thanks for sharing. And awesome quilt. 🙂

    • Deborah Brooks says

      10/17/2014 at 3:19 pm

I for one have not talent in that area what so ever so I would not attempt to do it. I’m so happy with the quilt and I know it will last forever. Thanks for visiting 🙂

  21. Diatta @ Femme Fitale Fit Club says

    10/17/2014 at 3:38 pm

This is a really cute idea. You can use it on a bed or hang it up on the wall as memoribilia from all the races. NICE!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      10/17/2014 at 4:33 pm

      absolutely! I love it!

  22. Chaitali says

    10/17/2014 at 3:53 pm

I love this idea! I haven’t even been running that long and already have a big enough collection that I was wondering what to do with them. Do the shirts have to be cotton?

    • Deborah Brooks says

      10/17/2014 at 4:34 pm

No they don’t have to be cotton. Half of mine were tech material. Those shirts do add up don’t they?

  23. Heather @ FITaspire says

    10/17/2014 at 4:19 pm

I kept mine in a drawer for years, but finally started donating them. We had a quilt like this made by a friend with high school swimming shirts (for Kirk) and I didn’t think it was really soft enough to use. I hope you find yours to be a perfect fit! 🙂

    • Deborah Brooks says

      10/17/2014 at 4:34 pm

Really? This one has a fleece backing and is very soft and cuddly.

      • Heather @ FITaspire says

        10/17/2014 at 5:24 pm

It’s actually the other side we didn’t like – the t-shirts have a lot of “stuff” on them and it makes the blanket stiffer than I would like. 🙂

        • Deborah Brooks says

          10/17/2014 at 5:46 pm

hmm I don’t feel that’s an issue with this one.

  24. Nicole @ Fitful Focus says

    10/17/2014 at 4:31 pm

so cute! after I collect a few more shirts, I’m definitely doing this!

    • Deborah Brooks says

Oh you should! I’m so happy with it 🙂

  27. Whitney @ To Live & Diet in L.A. says

    10/17/2014 at 9:39 pm

What a cool idea!! I usually just save them for bedtime shirts or give them to charity but if I ever compile enough, I’m definitely making one of these!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      10/17/2014 at 10:43 pm

You may have to start doing some more races so you have enough to make a quilt 🙂

      • Whitney says

        10/17/2014 at 11:06 pm

        Haha true!!

  28. Mary Beth Jackson says

    10/18/2014 at 5:33 pm

I love it!!!!! I am organizing my shirts now! Quick ? Did you just use your 100$ cotton shirts? Not the nice dry tech shirts correct?

    • Deborah Brooks says

      10/18/2014 at 5:39 pm

HI I used a combo of both types of shirts. I don’t think it matters at all. You are going to love it!

    • Deborah Brooks says

When I first started racing in all the states I never thought about how many shirts would accumulate. But eventually I decided to do just this, and when I am done, I am going to make a quilt with all the shirts too:) I never knew there were companies that could do this for you. But if I get to that point, and probably because I know how to do it because I’ve done many patch quilts in the past, I’ll probably make my own:) However, this is great to know that if life gets too busy there is a place out there to send the to do it for me:)

    • Deborah Brooks says

      10/20/2014 at 8:12 am

I am not a do it myself kind of girl so this is perfect for me!

  31. Debbie @ Deb Runs says

    10/19/2014 at 11:01 pm

Great idea! I could do it with my many race shirts that are either too big or too small. And as you know from reading my throwback recaps, I still have many of my shirts from as far back as 15 years ago! They’re just sitting in a drawer taking up space.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      10/20/2014 at 8:12 am

oh yes you would love it! Go for it

  32. Alexandra says

    10/20/2014 at 11:33 am

I LOVE it!! What size did you get and how many race shirts did you actually send off? It looks so cute 🙂

    • Deborah Brooks says

      10/20/2014 at 1:50 pm

I got the full and I sent 30 sides of shirts. Some shirts I wanted to use both sides of so I cut them in half and sent both. I really love it
