I’ve been meaning to share my experience with Inside Tracker. You’ve probably heard of it and perhaps seen a few athletes mention it on IG or Facebook. Wondering what it is or if it’s right for you? Here’s what I learned from my experience.
What I learned from Inside Tracker
Before I tell you what I learned from my testing process, let me share a little background.
What is inside tracker?
Inside Tracker is designed for everyday athletes as well as elite athletes. It measures bio markers by taking blood tests. These tests are done in a lab just like any other blood draw. These results are analyzed and you will receive actionable recommendations to improve your bio markers.
When you sign up, you can choose a goal to work towards. For example, improved performance, recovery, overall health etc. Your results are geared towards your personal goal. Examples of recommendations might be specific tweaks to your diet, exercise or sleep routine.
Why did I test with Inside Tracker?
I am always looking for small ways to improve my nutrition and wellness routine. I’ve spent the last few years doing everything I can think of to improve my cholesterol and some of the other markers in my blood work. I was offered the opportunity to do a full testing panel with Inside Tracker and I jumped on it.
What did I learn?
Short version? Although I have been a vegetarian my whole life, I have a genetic cholesterol profile which causes my HDL to be higher than I would like. My results did show me that but also showed me that they are improving with the diet and exercise plan I am on.
One of the recommendations I received was to add in more healthy fats from nuts. I used to eat more nuts and not sure why I stopped. I’ve started sprinkling walnuts into my salads and breakfast oatmeal.
Inside Tracker does what I refer to a “deeper dive” into bloodwork and checks some of the biomarkers that my regular doctor does not. One of these tests, Alpolipoprotein B which is one of the cardiac health measures, was very slightly elevated. Because I got this result, I was able to talk about it with my doctor. While he was not concerned, it is something that we will test and monitor.
On my never ending quest to improve my performance, recovery and of course my over health, inside tracker is a nice tool to have in my arsenal.

This is very cool.
Regular blood testing is one of the most effective ways to keep track of our health. Our bodies change over time and we need to tweak things accordingly. I like your example with the nuts!

Regular blood testing is one of the best ways to make sure we are on top of our health. I learned a lot and I am working on improving

I tested with Inside tracker last year and it was interesting. I was also told to eat more healthy fats which is tricky because we don’t keep nuts in the house because of Grayson’s allergy. Now we’ve been eating salmon once a week. I was also adding avocado to my smoothies but I’ve fallen out of that habit lately.
Deborah Brooks says
I go through phases of avocado and nuts and then kind of fall off of the wagon. This was a great reminder for me

Definitely a useful tool. And it seemed to help you re-tune your diet.
Deborah Brooks says
Yes a useful tool. I am always looking for little tweaks I can make to make wellness plan

That seems like a lot of great data! I’m so glad you’re getting validation of things you knew, as well as a way to help guide your path going forward.
Deborah Brooks says
Yes, it is always great to get feedback so that we have the info to make good decisions

Because I take a thyroid medication, I get my blood drawn twice and year and my doctor checks so many things- thyroid function, cholesterol, kidney, liver, red blood cells, white blood cells, vitamin D, iron, vitamin B12… frankly I’m getting a little tired of it all, especially since everything is always fine EXCEPT, ironically, for my thyroid and vitamin D levels, the two things that I take medication/supplements for- we can never manage to get those right (sigh.) I might tell my doctor to stop testing all those extra things and check out Inside Tracker- they might have some things that are more pertinent to running.
Deborah Brooks says
That does sound really frustrating! They may have some ideas for you or perhaps do different tests. You could ask them about it in advance maybe?

I did Inside Tracker a few years ago and really loved all of the information provided – it’s super helpful! I need to do it again so thanks for the reminder.
Deborah Brooks says
I was glad I tried it and I learned a lot

I’ve been interested in trying Inside tracker but just haven’t gotten around to it. It sounds so interesting to see what your blood can tell you. I also tend toward high cholesterol (and high blood pressure) even though I’m vegan and a consistent exerciser. I would like to know recommendations I’d get.
Deborah Brooks says
It is hard to fight the genetics sometimes! I am doing everything I can and to get all the information that I can to do my best.I am sure you would find it interesting as well
Debbie says
What a great way to know exactly what’s going on with your health. When I worked at the wellness center, I thought it was great that the doctor followed along with my clients’ progress by using blood testing so they could see the positive effects exercise and a healthy diet were having on their bodies.
Deborah Brooks says
yes, regular blood testing is a fantastic tool to use for monitoring your success.
