The first full week of September is in the books and what a difference a month makes. I don’t know if it is the cooler temps, a slight change in my eating or a more positive mental outlook but I have had one of the best running weeks in a long time. I am happy to report that I am starting to feel like myself again and getting some of my speed back too. It was a week of Happy Miles & Welcome Runs. Here’s how it went down.
Happy Miles & Welcome Runs
Monday- 1 mile TM run + 60 min strength training
I am continuing to do my 1 mile treadmill warm up before my strength training workout with my trainer. I am using that one mile run as a short speed work session of sorts.
Tuesday- 6 happy miles and post run stretch
First 4 miles with my MRTT group and then last 2 solo. Really happy with a mid week 6 miler again.
Wednesday- 1 mile treadmill run + 90 min kickboxing and strength training
My sweatiest and hardest workout of the week. I just ordered a new kickboxing bag that I hope comes in time for this week’s workout.
Thursday- 6 mile run + 3 mile walk group
Another beautiful weather day full of happy miles with my MRTT group. I joined in with the evening walk group to add another 3 miles. I was completely wiped after this one. Those ladies really walk quite fast and it is a totally different stride. I slept very well!
Friday- yoga on demand class and stretch
I was kind of sore and tired so opted for an easy yoga and stretch at home. Also treated myself to a pedicure with a friend. These runner feet were way overdo!
Saturday – 6 mile Welcome Run + breakfast
Our fall MRTT welcome run was back yesterday. I don’t know if it was the perfect temps (58 degrees to start) or the huge group of new and old friends but I had the best run that I have had in months. I chatted away with everyone through the streets of our town and felt amazing the whole time. I was pleased to see that my pace was much faster than it has been in a long time. I enjoyed a delicious breakfast burrito with the girls post run.
Not to sound too sappy, but these big group runs just warm my heart. I am thrilled when new members come out to join us and I have the chance to connect with old friends who I have not seen in a while. The best of both worlds!
Sunday- planned hot yoga
The last 2 weeks I have been able to up my mileage and have 2 20 mile weeks. As you all know, I had a pretty unenjoyable summer of running, so to say that I am thrilled is an understatement. Now I just have to keep it up without getting injured. It was definitely a week of Happy Miles & Welcome Runs over here.
See you tomorrow for Meatless Monday! I will be sharing a savory fall Sun Dried Tomato and Squash Bread.
And that’s a wrap! Linking up with Tricia and Hoho for the Weekly Wrap.
What was the highlight of your week? Do Tell!

What a great week of running and happy miles! I like the 1 mile speed run before strength sessions. A highlight of my week is finally feeling better after making some nutrition changes
Deborah Brooks says
My nutrition changes seem to be helping me as well. Now to just keep them up!
Coco says
Yay! I think the weather makes a huge difference but I’m sure nutrition does too!
Deborah Brooks says
I think they both do. Now to keep up the nutritional changes I’ve made

I love happy miles! The weather has been picture perfect for us this week – it’s almost dare I say cold in the mornings?! You can tell that Fall is coming!
So glad that you had an awesome week of workouts!

The cooler temps have made a world of difference for me!
Wendy@Taking the Long Way Home says
I’m so glad you got your groove back! These cooler temps do make for some nice runs.
Deborah Brooks says
They sure do! I am starting to feel like my old self again
Judy @ Chocolaterunsjudy says
I also had a great run yesterday.
That’s actually a whole lotta miles midweek! Glad you’re enjoying the runs again. Fall doesn’t hurt.
Deborah Brooks says
I feel like a whole new person again! Bring on fall
Kimberly Hatting says
It’s been great to see your running mojo back in full force 😉 Keep on rocking & rolling!!
Deborah Brooks says
Not quite full force but I am seeing lots of progress thanks for the support
HoHo Runs says
Hooray for great weeks! The difference the temperature drop made for me this week was unbelievable. After suffering through the summer, we start assuming our runs will stay that way. Then all of a sudden…it is SO MUCH BETTER. Walking is so much different than running for me too! I have to remember to get some walking miles in before we go on a trip that will require a lot of it.
Deborah Brooks says
Yes exactly! So happy that we both had better runs this week
Sara says
I’m glad to hear that you are feeling better and it sounds like everything is now falling in to place. This summer was rough…the weather here didn’t make training enjoyable at all!
Training was status quo this week… I would have to say that my highlight was celebrating my 10 year anniversary with Hubs.
Thanks for linking up!
Deborah Brooks says
Happy anniversary that’s a big one!
Katie Shepherd says
I love how your have a walk group and community to join in with your miles! I wish I was part of a running group. I’ve never tried kickboxing! I bet it’s awesome cross-training!
Deborah Brooks says
My group is the absolute best ever! Have you checked to see whether you have an MRTT group near you? You can look on the national webiste momsrunthistown.com
Teresa says
Sounds like a great week of running Deborah and I’m thrilled for you! I’m still waiting for my ‘week of happy miles’ to come ….and I am confident they will come! Heck, it has to get better, right??? 🙂
Deborah Brooks says
Absolutely! For both of us
Marcia says
Great week! I’m so glad you’re feeling more like yourself and the runs are improving. Cooler weather will definitely help on that front.
Zenaida Arroyo says
Love it that you had a great week! And the weather has been pretty awesome too.
Deborah Brooks says
Thanks! It sure helps a lot
Ana says
I agree with you, big group runs are really awesome! I have consider looking into the local MRTT chapter, but I think the closest one is a 35 min drive.
Deborah Brooks says
So that is why/how I ended up starting my own MRTT chapter 4 years ago!
Sharon says
Yay for a great running week! So great you have a big group to run with! I miss my MRTT group in NJ.
Deborah Brooks says
They really are the best! I hope you find your tribe out there too
