Weekly Wrap-Tri Taper Week

Wow it’s Sunday again and time for another Weekly Wrap with Tricia, Hoho and guest host Janelle. I wrote this a few days ago because my Sprint Tri race is (was) today. This is my third race of the season and my trainer and I agree that I really needed a full  Tri Taper week this go around. He feels, and I reluctantly agreed, that I have been doing a little too much lately. I was feeling really tired and a true taper week was needed. I even took 2 complete rest days (unless you count power shopping as a workout). Here’s how my week shook out.

Weekly Wrap Tri Taper Week

Sunday

One last Swim, Run, Swim with my crew. I am loving this combo of workouts and the weather was gorgeous.

Monday

30 m elliptical easy, 60 min strength training

Tried out Om Float therapy and lived to tell about it. In case you missed my review read it here.

Tuesday

Short run 2.25 miles and a stop at 7-11 on the way back for free Slurpee day. Have to say, they are so super sweet I couldn’t really drink it. Short swim 900 m easy.

Weekly Wrap Tri Taper Week

Wednesday

90 min strength training & kick boxing

Kept the intensity much lower this week and included more stretching time.

Thursday

8 mile bike ride. It was so hot outside that running would just be a bad idea so I did a lower intensity bike ride. Spent the rest of the afternoon blogging and hanging at the pool with a friend.

Friday

Rest Day

Met up with my running group for the post run coffee date. No running for me. Then met up with one of my besties for some Power Shopping. Does that still count as a rest day?

Saturday

Rest day #2

2 Rest days in a row! Wow I am getting very antsy. Packet pickup and checked into my hotel. Met some friends for dinner for a pre race excuse to carb up.

Sunday

Sprint Tri Day

Stay tuned for details

That’s how my week went down. Anyone else racing this weekend? Did you do a true taper?

Hope to see you tomorrow for meatless Monday 🙂

As a life long vegetarian, I've always been passionate about healthy living & exercise. Looking for partners in crime, I started my own chapter of Moms Run This Town (MRTT) which has grown to over 700 members. I've met so many amazing women who inspire me daily to keep moving forward. You can usually find me running with my crew and training for the next crazy adventure they talked me into. I love to keep up to date on new running & fitness trends. I definitely choose my running gear based on color and love to express my fashion sense while exercising.

Did you enjoy your days off? That’s always the clue that taking time off was needed! Shopping is so fun!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      07/16/2017 at 7:21 pm

I did enjoy my days off! True:)

  9. Sara says

Love the slurpee day pics! Another great week of training.
Hopefully the extra rest paid off for you in your tri-race this past weekend.

I think I’m one of the weird runners that likes a true taper before race day. I don’t feel antsy and enjoy the extra recovery time to feel ready on race day.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      07/17/2017 at 7:22 am

It was good to take some days off for sure. I do think I’ve been over doing it a tad

  10. Kimberly Hatting says

    07/16/2017 at 9:40 pm

Well, as you know, my entire summer is a taper of sorts LOL I’m excited to hear the details of your tri…you’re a dedicated beast!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      07/17/2017 at 7:23 am

Ha ha at least you miss all the humidity ugh. I have mixed feelings on how it went I have to think about it

Nice taper week! Love that you guys got slurpees on the way back from your run! Great job on your Tri! Saw your pic on IG! 🙂 Congrats on beating your time from last year!

I hope you had a great race!! The Swim, Run, Swim group sounds really cool – if I ever did a triathlon I’d need to find a training group to keep motivated!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      07/17/2017 at 7:31 am

Yes having a group of friends to train with is key for me

  15. Judy @ Chocolaterunsjudy says

    07/17/2017 at 10:16 am

Now, that IS a tease! And doesn’t really seem like that much of a taper, but then I tend to stay fairly active in my tapers, too. I hope that those rest days did the trick!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      07/17/2017 at 11:30 am

I did feel more rested. I am still processing my race there was some good and some not so good.

  16. Lesley says

    07/17/2017 at 10:17 am

I took two days of taper before the Bolder Boulder. I was quite antsy, but I knew it would be for the best to make sure my legs were completely rested.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      07/17/2017 at 11:31 am

It really does help and I had been over doing it a bit too

  17. Teresa says

    07/17/2017 at 1:18 pm

Power shopping can actually be more of a workout than a rest day ….but a fun workout!

Can’t wait to hear all about your tri! Hope it went well!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      07/17/2017 at 2:44 pm

Ha yes it can! I have mixed feelings about my race stay tuned for that

  18. Renée says

    07/18/2017 at 7:29 am

I consider power shopping a high intensity workout!!!

the weather looks AMAZING where you are!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      07/18/2017 at 9:21 am

it sure can be! The weather has been really hot and humid lately
