It’s a been a few weeks since I’ve joined the Weekly Wrap and I am excited to be back. Our weather this week, like much of yours I suspect, went from spring to summer and it was a scorcher. I do love summer but I enjoy having a few days or weeks to adapt to the crazy heat and humidity that comes along with it. Is that too much to ask?!
The Weekly Wrap Steam Bath Edition
I had a high volume week on tap in prep for my next tri Jne 4th. Here’s a quick snapshot of my week:
Sunday
Our weekend was crazy busy with our anniversary (22 years!), Mother’s Day and my son’s 17th birthday. Whew!
Had a great mother’s day and rest day for me. My hubs and kids got the thousands of hints I dropped, and gave me the Garmin fenix in the rose gold. Ah! I am sure that is the key to faster runs don’t you think? We spent the morning having brunch with my parents and then celebrated my son’s birthday that night.
Monday
30 min elliptical
60 min strength training
40 min bike ride (it was so nice out couldn’t resist)
Tuesday
The heat starts to set in and I realize I need to carry water again now. Felt super strong on today’s run.
It got really hot in the afternoon and my girls on the run team had a rough practice run. They managed to tough it out though and have some fun along the way.
Wednesday
20 min elliptical
90 min kickboxing and strength training (sweating buckets in the heat)
Thursday
I knew the temps were going to be in the mid 90’s again so I tried to get out early for my bike/run brick. The bike went well but the run -ugh it was awful. I really thought I was going to crush this one but sometimes they don’t go as planned. Complete steam bath out there.I was still sweating while blow drying my hair and hour later-lol. Exhausted the rest of the day.
Friday
Took a much needed rest day. Very unusual but I have the whole house to myself all weekend! Husband is away on business and both of my kids left for different trips all weekend. What to do with myself? I went to a happy hour at a friend’s house and was in bed at 10:30. It was fabulous I got almost 9 hours of sleep.
Saturday
Still a little upset about how badly that brick went and was tempted to just stay in bed all morning. I got over my pity party and went to the crazy hard hill ride I’ve been doing. These hills are no joke! We climbed almost 2000 feet of elevation in 22 miles. I am slowly improving my average pace on these rides. Progress feels good and I am glad I got up and went.
Sunday
Today is my end of the season girls on the run 5K race. Thank goodness it’s cooled off for them. Stay tuned to see how it went. So excited to run with these girls today!
See you tomorrow for Meatless Monday 🙂
Bethany says
Crazy busy week!
The kickboxing sounds like so much fun!
Deborah Brooks says
Kickboxing is one of my favorite workouts each week
Kim says
The temps were definitely a little crazy this week! Luckily the warm temperature broke over here this weekend. I’m definitely NOT ready for Summer running..ugh!
You rocked that bike ride yesterday – great job! I hope that the GOTR race goes well today!
Deborah Brooks says
I am not quite ready for the summer running temps either I like to ease into them. The race was great today thanks
Dawn Rambles says
This week was my staycation so I really spent most of the time relaxing. I did catch my first fish and joined a new gym. Today is all about prepping for the week ahead.
Sounds like you had a pretty good week. I love your daughter heart sunglasses (super cute). Happy (belated) Birthday to your son.
Deborah Brooks says
Thanks Dawn! It is nice to have a mini staycation sometimes isn’t it? Joining a new gym sounds fun have a great week
Mary Beth Jackson says
Oh I hope that 5K went fabulous! It is funny when you get the whole house to yourself, isn’t it? What to do? I am glad you got out there and tackled that hilly ride- sounded like just want you needed! and yes, I am in a steam bath down here too! UGH!
Deborah Brooks says
The 5K was great the girls rocked it. It is weird having the house to myself for sure it’s so quite
Wendy@Taking the Long Way Home says
Our weather has been all over the place this week. The one consistent thing has been the wind. OMG, I’m so tired of dealing with it. I didn’t plan my route well this morning and ended up running home into the wind. I didn’t expect it to pick up like that. Ugh.
You look great–I love those pink Birkenstocks. And I want that Garmin Fenix. I don’t need it, but I want it!
Deborah Brooks says
Ha I did not need it either and felt kind of guilty asking for it for mother’s day but I sure do love it so far. 🙂 The pink Birkenstocks really feel good on the feet check them out lots of arch support
Lisa @ Mile by Mile says
I seriously cant keep up with the weather. I almost forgot how hot it was in Baltimore this week because yesterday in Cleveland was so chilly. We never seem to get any time to adjust to the heat!
Deborah Brooks says
I need to ease into the summer heat for sure! This week looks better so fingers crossed for some better workouts
Kimberly Hatting says
Ironic with that last question about accomplishing something that almost didn’t happen….that would be yesterday’s long (unexpected) 16-miler. It was a struggle (for a lot of it), but it got done 😉
Deborah Brooks says
Yay! I love it when those kinds of workouts happen makes them even better
Judy @ Chocolaterunsjudy says
I hope your goals had a great race! And how fabulous to have some time to yourself. Have a great week, Deborah!
Deborah Brooks says
It was nice to have a few days to myself. Hope you have a great week too!
Fairytales and fitness says
I was just going to ask when your GOTR 5 k was. Ours here is the first weekend in May. I hope they all had a great time.
Your Fenix is pretty. My husband has one but I didn’t know you could have a photo on the face of it.
Deborah Brooks says
Our race went really well today stay tuned for details on that. yes the watch is great and yes you can upload any photo kind of cool
Abby @BackatSquareZero says
Oh my gosh I love the Garmin Fenix in Rose Gold! Fabulous
Deborah Brooks says
It’s just beautiful I love it!
Coco says
It looks like you had such a wonderful Mother’s Day. You are a rockstar on that Conte’s ride!
Deborah Brooks says
I am hoping you will join me again. It is such a tough ride but I know it’s helping me
Lesley says
Not ’90s here, and I’m OK with that. After spending the past 8 summers in Texas, I’m OK with the slow warmup, even with snow thrown in. It’s weird, but I’m enjoying being outside and not sweating right away.
Deborah Brooks says
I definitely like to have some time to adjust to the heat and humidity a bit
Tricia Vaughn says
OMG I have been eyeing the Fenix! I don’t need a new watch but dang it sure looks pretty sweet! Way to get in your brick in those conditions! I’m having a hard time adjusting this year and I have to deal with the mess. Maybe it’s because it’s earlier?
My accomplishment came with my 5k time. I was able to sneak in under 30 minutes when I haven’t run paces like that since the early spring! So I will take it!
Deborah Brooks says
That’s fantastic! It’s been a while since I’ve been under 30 myself but super close. The Fenix is amazing I did not need it either but I sure do love it
Renée says
all you women athletes out there training for tris… you’ve got my utmost respect. well done for doing “it” anyway even though you felt like you didn’t want to!
my week was sleepless. I didn’t accomplish anything huge last week. week before that I had exams (which I passed) so I gave myself a pass last week!
Deborah Brooks says
exams are stressful for sure congrats on finishing them!
Teresa says
Beautiful family and congratulations on 22 years with the hubby! Your Mom is so cute! 🙂
Those are some serious hills on that bike ride ….that will definitely pay off in your Tri’s ….way to go!
Deborah Brooks says
Thanks and I hope so!
