Really cannot believe we are at the end of March already! This week was the first time in a long while that the weather really threw off my training. I am such a creature of habit that I get all out of sorts when I have to switch workouts around. This Weekly Wrap was all about Spring Taking A Break.
Spring Taking A Break
There were lots of ups and downs this week. We started and ended on high note so that’s definitely a win in my book. Here’s how my week went.
Sunday- 10 Mile run
The crew and I headed downtown for a “monumental” run through DC. I admit that even though I only live about 15 minutes away from DC, we rarely go run there. It’s just a hassle with parking etc. We kind of take for granted all of the beautiful scenery. Now we are just 2 weeks out from the Cherry Blossom Race and having this 10 miler done gives me lots of confidence for race day. Definitely the running highlight of the week!
Monday-20 min elliptical and 60 min strength training
A little tired from yesterday’s run we did mostly upper body strength training and stretching. Lunch with a friend then froze my butt off watching my son’s lacrosse game. Lacrosse is supposed to be a spring sport!
Tuesday- 60 min Vinyasa yoga
Woke up to sleet and icy rain. Hello spring where are you? Our morning run was cancelled so I hit up a Vinyasa yoga class and met this little guy.
Wednesday- 30 min elliptical + 90 min kickboxing and strength training + snowy walk 1 hour
We managed to make it through the whole winter without a real measurable snow fall and bam first day of spring here it is. We got about 6 inches I think which hung around long enough to just make a mess. I did get in my usual Wednesday workout and then took advantage of a chance pop on the snow shoes for a few minutes.
Thursday- 1 hour elliptical and abs
My morning run was once again cancelled due to icy roads. I avoid the treadmill at all costs so I hit the elliptical while catching up on some shows.
Highlight of my week-My daughter came home for spring break. I am so so happy that we are all together for the week and it’s her 21st birthday. Best present ever!
Friday-5 mile run
The snow finally melted and I got out for a chilly and windy 5 miles. Some of the Cherry Blossoms are starting to bloom but it sure does not feel like very springlike out there. Froze my butt off at another lacrosse game at night.
Saturday- rest day
So I just wrote about how antsy I get on rest days and today is no different. I did host a group of lacrosse boys for breakfast before their game this morning. That was kind of a workout! I made a chocolate chip French Toast Bake for them and they went on to crush the other team. Coincidence? I think not!
Sunday- on the plan 8 miles
Hope to sleep in and run the last long ish run before Cherry Blossom in 2 weeks. Check out some other Cherry Blossom training logs here.
Really hoping Spring makes a comeback this week! No one likes snow and ice at the end of March. How was your week?

Hosting a lacrosse team is definitely a workout! I helped my parents once when I was home on spring break. They can eat! Enjoy the time with your family Deborah!
Deborah Brooks says
Thanks I am loving having them all home together!

It supposed to get into the 60s here this week am i really hope it does! Looks like a great week even thought your plans had to change a little. I also hate when anything disrupts my workouts.
Deborah Brooks says
Yes I am excited for warmer weather too! Enjoy it
Wendy says
Happy 21st birthday to your daughter! My oldest turns 21 this summer. God help us.
I am so happy that the snow missed us this week! Not sure how that happened. No worry, the cold and wind lingers. It’s been tough but a runner’s gotta get it done, right? I hope it warms up for Cherry Blossom for you!
Deborah Brooks says
How can 2 such young looking spring chickens have 21 year olds?!
Fairytales and Fitness says
At least you got some workout going on in that snow. Snow shoeing looks fun!
Those Cherry Blossoms look beautiful!
Deborah Brooks says
Snow shoeing is fun we did not get to use them at all this year really! The Blossoms are gorgeous when they are all out
Kimberly Hatting says
I think you still had an active week despite the crazy weather. Ugh. What is up with Winter this year??? I would so love to do that Monunental Run!!
Deborah Brooks says
Anytime you want to come down I will take you on a running tour!

I know exactly how you feel about living close to a big city, but not visiting often. I actually only go into NYC when I absolutely have to, and I always take the train because driving there and finding parking is such a pain!
That french toast looks awesome and super yummy!
Deborah Brooks says
I know I kind of take it for granted I should go more and explore around. Have a great week
Becca | Rabbit Food Runner says
That’s so cool that you host the boys before the game! I remember a soccer parent that used to do that, I loved it! I’m also hoping spring decides to show itself soon.
Deborah Brooks says
I was glad I had the chance to have all the boys over. They do eat!
Laurie says
Love the idea of doing a monumental run. I have done the Cherry Blossom several times, and had a great time each year. Best part was going to the Kennedy Center for brunch afterwards! What a splurge!! Hope you appreciate your cherry blossoms. It is gray grass and dirty snow here in eastern PA. 🙁
Deborah Brooks says
Ooh you just reminded me that I should pick a brunch spot!

Lacrosse certainly is NOT a spring sport in college. I froze my butt off during enough practices and games in college to make me have the same thought. This is supposed to be spring!
Deborah Brooks says
Ha did not know you played! Yes freezing out there so far this season
Lisa @ Mile by Mile says
The snow this week was not a pleasant surprise! Hopefully that is the end of it for this year. You still got in alot of great workouts this week!
Deborah Brooks says
Not welcome at all! I do get all flustered when my workouts gets mixed up!
Coco says
I was hoping to get in a 10-miler today, but couldn’t quite do it — the price for yesterday’s bike ride? What position does your son play? I’d love to watch a game with you when it’s a bit warmer. Happy Birthday to your daughter–so fantastic to have her home!
Deborah Brooks says
It’s amazing to have her home! My son is the goalie they are undefeated so far 🙂
Jessie says
Oh my that chocolate chip french toast looks so tasty! Was it a recipe you could make the night before? Those are the best.
Snow shoeing is a great workout- they have races here in Minnesota with the racing ones. Pretty solid workouts!
Deborah Brooks says
Yes I made the French Toast the night before it was delicious. I have a similar recipe on the blog if you’d like I can send it over

That 10 mile monument run looks so cool! It’s wonderful you have such a beautiful location it at your disposal. We’ve been freezing at a few of our son’s baseball games. My hubs started carrying his portable heater, which at first I thought was ridiculous — but now I’ve warmed up to the idea. 😉 The cherry trees are beautiful. I hope they’ll be that way for your race too. Thanks for linking!
Deborah Brooks says
I may need to invest in one of those portable heaters if it does not warm up soon!
Debbie @ Deb Runs says
I’d forgotten all about freezing my behind off watching the kids’ spring sports. Brrr…
I love that picture of you snowshoeing!
Deborah Brooks says
Yes I am ready to watch lacrosse without freezing my butt off!
Teresa says
That chocolate chip french toast bake looks and sounds yummy! I love that you pulled the snow shoes out for a trek ..how fun is that! Sounds like your Cherry Blossom training has gone perfectly despite some weather hiccups …can’t wait to hear how it all goes down!
Deborah Brooks says
Yes the French Toast is a nice treat!
Christine says
My week was cold and windy! I’m so ready for this winter weather to go away. We didn’t have snow, but it’s still unseasonably cold here in the South.
Good job on your workouts, though, in spite of the snow! I’m always impressed by people who get out there in the snow. My Southern blood is so wimpy with the cold.
Deborah Brooks says
I think you just have to adapt to the weather where you live! I have a much harder time with the summer humidity
AmyC says
Cherry blossoms and freezing temps…I can see how that would be frustrating. I’ve never been to DC when the trees are blooming. I bet it is just amazing!
Deborah Brooks says
It really is beautiful should be next week
Janelle @ Run With No Regrets says
This cold start to spring has been the worst! Ugh, I really need the temperatures to warm up soon! Your training has been going so well, I can’t wait to see how you do! The French toast bake looks AMAZING….definitely helped the guys be fueled for victory! And happy birthday to your daughter 🙂
Deborah Brooks says
thanks so much Janelle! Have a great week
