Excited to be back in on the Weekly Wrap with Tricia & HoHo this week! Since it is Spring Break week, I was a little off my regular schedule but still managed to get almost all of my workouts in. Let’s see how it went down this week.
Monday
A gorgeous spring day called for a nice bike + run brick. Got in 45 min on the bike and then a 4 mile run. Happy to report it did not suck as much as I had imagined. Always helps when a friend meets you for the run part.
Tuesday
My cooking for Passover dinner with my family took longer than I thought. Missed my short swim day today and did an hour of elliptical at home and some resistance band fun instead. Did make a killer ratatouille dish though π
Wednesday
30 min elliptical + 90 min of kickboxing and weights. Major sweat fest and one of my favorite workouts of the week. No photo-oops! Met a friend at the mall for a little power shopping and new spring clothes. A girl cannot live in workout clothes alone. Or can she?
Thursday
I had a crazy day! Feeling pretty good after another bike run brick. Did a 30 min ride and an almost 5 mile run with my group. We were only planning on running 3 but we got to chatting and well you know how that goes. I am really working on trying to keep a decent pace after the bike. Seeing some progress but it’s always tough.
So here’s the crazy part! I was in the shower and the lights started flickering. I then heard the transformer blow outside. Not that unusual but I thought it wasn’t a great idea to be in the shower. I hopped out and threw on some clothes. Headed outside to see what was going on and I noticed a small fire behind our house where the power company has a small sub station. I called 911 and seriously those guys were here in under 2 minutes. They quickly put it out and I don’t think we were ever in any danger. I’ve never seen anything like that happen. Did I mention how attractive the firemen were?
We were out of power for a few hours while they fixed the damage. So I was stuck with air drying my hair LOl. Normally would not be a big deal but I had plans with my mom and sisters for a session at a Painting Bar. We decided it would be a fun thing to do with my mom for her birthday. She loved it!
Friday
I had a chance to volunteer coach some newbie swimmers before my own swim class. Tough 2100m with lots of drills and sprints.
Saturday
4th times a charm! Hanging with my new bike crew for some hills for breakfast. I am feeling so much more confident out there this week. It’s great to feel progress. Ended the day with a fabulous massage and then some meal prepping. Whew busy Weekly Wrap Spring Break Edition!
Don’t miss my delicious Meatless Monday tomorrow- Tex Mex Brown Rice Salad with a jalapeno dressing.
Ever have to call 911? Do you have these new Wine & Paint bars near you?
Linking up with Ilka’s blog & Marathons and motivation

I’ve had the transformer blow behind my house before. Even cuter than the firemen are the ComEd guys. Plus they have really fun personalities! Yummy.
We have to call 911 here for the dumbest things. Like my credit card being stolen this week. I had to file a police report and I had to call 911.
Deborah Brooks says
OH no! Credit card stealing that sucks. Our electric company guys were not so cute. Doesn’t hurt to look though π
Lisa @ Mile by Mile says
Wow, thats crazy about the transformer. Glad that everything was ok! I do have a Wine and Paint bar nearby but Ive ever tried it.
Deborah Brooks says
It is so much fun! I am so not creative at all but I did it
Kim says
Looks like you had a great Spring Break, minus the transformer incident!
Love seeing all your photos and workouts from this week. I need to use my resistance bands more so thanks for the reminder!
We have a plan called Pinot’s Palette and its so cool. I’ve gone a few times and I love painting while drinking wine or champagne and hanging with friends!
Deborah Brooks says
It’s much more fun than I thought it would be. I am not artsy at all but I guess you really don’t have to be!
Sarah @ Bucket List Tummy says
Such a variety of fun workouts! I’d love to do more swimming. That’s so scary about the fire, I’m glad no one was hurt!
Deborah Brooks says
It was so weird but glad I was home too
Michelle @ Running with Attitude says
Glad the transformer incident wasn’t too major. Sounds like you are building confidence on the bike which is great!
Deborah Brooks says
I think I really am thanks
Laura says
Yikes! Having to call out the fire department is quite an adventure! Glad it was all minor. You had a really awesome week of training, too!
Deborah Brooks says
Thanks it was a good week over here
Coco says
Looks like a fantastic week! I am DYING to join you at Contes? How many miles and about how long? I really should not go next week (before my next race Sunday) but I have such FOMO – and fear of those PA Dutch hills I need to train for!
Deborah Brooks says
Well it’s 22 miles of all hills really. I am excited for you to join us. It usually takes about 2 hours. I don’t know about the day before the race up to you! The following week I have my tri race so I won’t be there the 29
Kimberly Hatting says
That was a busy week! We don’t have any local wine & paint bars, but there are a lot of them that do the “shows on the road” in nearby venues. I’ve never been to one, though.
Deborah Brooks says
They are lots of fun and easier than I thought
Marcia says
Scary about the power-related fire. Very lucky you caught it so fast! I love the different interpretations in those paintings!
Deborah Brooks says
It was really fun to do the paintings and yes everyone does have really different interpretations
Sana says
Keep up the awesome work! Your legs are looking strong! I am finally glad it’s MUCH nicer weather for running outdoors. I just don’t want it to get TOO hot!
Deborah Brooks says
Thanks and no not ready for the super hot days yet either
Jennifer @ Run Jenny Run says
Love the paintings! If you get a chance, you should check out https://arworkshop.com/alexandria/, it was tons of fun!
Deborah Brooks says
OH ok I will!
Meranda@Fairytalesandfitness says
What a busy week for you! We have the paint thing in my town but I ‘ve never gone. Don’t know if they serve wine or not.
Deborah Brooks says
I am not really a drinker but others seemed to like it π
HoHo Runs says
You had a great week with a lot of variety! How fun to teach a swim class. I need your help! That’s pretty scary to see a fire behind your house. I’ve had a couple of mishaps in the kitchen but nothing serious. I’ve never called 911 (knock on wood). We have a new Paint place in our city and I’ve been dying to go. When Tricia was here last time I thought that would be a fun activity, but they were painting pink unicorns that day. No thank you. LOL. Thanks for linking, Deb!
Deborah Brooks says
Pink unicorns prob not my thing either! Glad I was able to join this week
Katie Shepherd says
What an awesome week you had despite the small fire scare! So glad you are enjoying the group bike ride! I LOVE paint parties and even had one for my birthday few years ago. I had so many paintings we sold three at a yardsale lol! I just told my husband I am ready to go paint again! Hope you have another great week!
Deborah Brooks says
Oh my I don’t think anyone would ever want to buy my painting!!
Lesley says
Yikes! I’ve never had to call 911, but glad they got there to take care of it. It’d be like luck to be in the shower too when something like that happens.
Deborah Brooks says
It was really an odd occurrence!
Mary Beth Jackson says
Wow! You had a great week! My local wine bar does one of those painting classes once a month- they are fun for sure! Don’t get me started on fire fighters I will want to set something on fire! LOL! Good to know that you get a great response time! and yes, things like that only happen when you take a shower! Have a great week!
Deborah Brooks says
They are kind of cute in their gear and all just saying π
Christine @ Into the Glimmer says
Yikes! The transformer incident doesn’t sound like much fun, but it sounds like good week otherwise! I saw you run a Moms Run this Town group. I just started on in my city and I’d love to know how you got people to get out and run and how you grew your group. I’ve been having major trouble getting any traction at all.
Deborah Brooks says
I would love to talk to you about MRTT! Feel free to email me [email protected] anytime
Emily Renteria says
Wow Deborah, you are quite the well-rounded athlete! Biking, running, swimming, cross-training, that is amazing! I struggle with doing much more than running and yoga each week, but I’ve recently made it a goal to strength train/lift weights one day per week.
Deborah Brooks says
Thanks Emily! I do like variety in my workouts. The strength training does wonders for me
Ilka says
That’s an awesome training log Deborah. I know all your hard training from IG and I love how well rounded your training is. I’m pretty sure your running pics inspire lots of people to take on swimming!
I love that you guys took your Mom to an art class! That’s such a sweet and fabulous idea! I actually thought your hair looked so pretty in the picture – so you definitely don’t have to worry about air drying it!!
Deborah Brooks says
You are so very sweet! Have a great rest of your week
vicki says
Life would be better if we could live in workout clothes… but alas, HR frowns on that π
Deborah Brooks says
I think I might live in workout clothes π
Tricia Vaughn says
Gosh seeing the picture of yall at the Painting Bar makes me wish ours didn’t close down. I’m not sure why it did I thought it did great. It was called Painting with at Twist and you could bring your own wine!
Now if the nail salons would start doing this I think it would be awesome to sip on some wine while getting a pedi! π
Glad to see you back in the WW Deborah!
Deborah Brooks says
Yes that would also be fun! Our nail salon lets you bring your own wine in for parties. I think it’s time to schedule one π
