It’s certainly felt like summer for weeks now but now that school is over it is officially summer. Our public schools end really late here in Virginia and my son just finished 2 days ago. It’s funny how when the kids are little I used to dread of the end of school, now I wish we had more time off to just hang out together. Anyway! I am joining Tricia, Hoho and Zenaida for the Weekly Wrap Hello Summer. It’s been fun to see what everyone else is doing for their weekly workout and to keep accountable for mine as well. Let’s see how this week went down.
Weekly Wrap Hello Summer
M-30 min elliptical, 60 min strength training.
Missed by afternoon bike ride due to thunder storms.
Tue-4 mile run(walk) + 30 min swim.
Had such a tough run and had to walk on a route that I run all the time. It just was not my day. It was hot and I was just not feeling it. It felt great to get into the pool post run but struggled a bit there too. Need to rethink some of my fueling and hydration habits. I was all smiles pre run but really not a good one at all.
Fun dinner with my Girls on The Run Coaches at a local Indian restaurant. We were chit chatting so much we forgot a group photo. I did have the most yummy, spicy Tandori cauliflower. You can almost see it sizzling in the photo. Oh and who does not love to splurge on all the amazing Naan bread?
Wed-90 min kickboxing and weights
Felt much better and was glad to sweat it out. Feels good to punch things and not worry they will punch they back 🙂
Thur-45 min bike + 3 mile run
I started a little earlier and was feeling much better on the brick today. Still slower than I’d like to be on the post bike run but I am doing it. My next tri race is in 3 weeks so I plan to get in a few more bricks before then. Played around with my Go Pro and my tips from Deb and got some fun photos.
Fri-no workout
Took my son up to summer camp in the mountains of Maryland where he will be for 7 weeks. He does not like it when I put his photo on my blog but hey what he doesn’t know won’t hurt him right! I managed one quick photo as we dropped him off. Already miss him.
Sat- Hot Yoga
My group bike ride was cancelled and I woke up feeling like I needed to do something different. Felt amazing to get back to my mat after so many weeks. I do love hot yoga class but it is the first thing to go when I have too much else going on. Our instructor offered this intention to us: “It’s not who you think you are that holds you back, it’s what you think you are not”. So true! I am often thinking things like, “I am not a fast enough runner” or “I am not a fast triathlete” to name a few. Gave me a lot to think about for sure.
And that’s my Weekly Wrap Hello Summer! Hope to see you tomorrow for Meatless Monday.
Lisa @ Mile by Mile says
I think the only time I went to camp was junior year for a week for field hockey. Other than that I liked to stay home with my friends! The weather some days this week definitely made outdoor workouts a bit more challenging. Great job getting so much done!
Deborah Brooks says
It sure did! Exhausted from the heat for sure
Wendy@Taking the Long Way Home says
You know I send a lot of negative thoughts through my head! It’s always a work in progress. Looks like you had a great week in spite of the heat!
Deborah Brooks says
Same here it’s a real struggle at times
Kim says
Summer is definitely in full effect! Looks like you had a great week of workouts despite the weather!
Deborah Brooks says
I am trying to stay on track!
MCM Mama Runs says
I went to a couple of sleep away camps, but didn’t really enjoy it. So far, neither of my kids are interested.
This heat is killing my running. I just keep plugging along, being satisfied that I’m getting the miles in.
Deborah Brooks says
I am dying out there lately! I don’t remember it being like this so early but I am sure it was.
Michelle @ Running with Attitude says
The heat really has been tough this week. I definitely had my struggles too. I love the intention your yoga teacher gave you – something to think about for sure!
Deborah Brooks says
Yes I have been thinking about it quite a bit
Lesley says
It wasn’t really summer camp, but I did overnight sports camps in high school, then once I turned 16, I worked day soccer camps at a local college. I feel like I could handle the heat better back then, and loved those camps.
Deborah Brooks says
I know the heat seems to gt harder to handle as I’ve aged too
Kimberly Hatting says
Oh that yoga pose! On any given day, I could probably do it, but right now (in my current state of frustration), I’d be screaming going into it…then stuck and not able to “undo” myself LOL
Deborah Brooks says
I am thinking you should wait a few days! Take care of yourself friend
Coco says
That is a really good intention! So much depends on our mental attitude! I was a sleep-away camp girl, but only during my elementary school years. I think I might have maxed out at 6 weeks.
Deborah Brooks says
I loved the intention and I always forget how much I love the class when I miss it
Teresa says
I never did camp, but my boys did….and they hated the picture taking deal as well. Actually, they still do! 🙂
I do struggle at times with focusing on the things I can’t do rather than all the things my body does allow me to do. I have to make a point every day to stop and appreciate what my 50 year old body is doing these days! 🙂
Deborah Brooks says
Yes that is so true!
Laura @ Sprint 2 the Table says
That cauliflower looks unreal! I’m with the on the naan, it’s absolutely addicting when it’s fresh and warm.
I was not a good camper. I went twice and begged to come home both times. Tents, group bathrooms, and cafeteria food were never my thing. LOL!
Deborah Brooks says
ha ha yes roughing it is not my thing either
Zenaida Arroyo says
I remember as a kid going to day camp. But the camp was in my grammar school and the school was across the street from my house. It was still fun! Kept me busy and entertained.
I am not a big fan of Indian food but do LOVE Naan bread. I could eat it every single day.
Deborah Brooks says
Oh the bread is my weakness 🙂
Meranda@Fairytalesandfitness says
Wow, 7 weeks is a long time for camp! When I was younger I barely wanted to spend a week..lol. Is he going to be a camp counselor?
Deborah Brooks says
Yes he is a CIT this year so a little bit of both! Miss him already though
Marcia says
I was not a summer camper but the Caveman was. He says it was a blast so I’ll take his word for it. I want to hit the pause button on summer already!
Deborah Brooks says
I know summer goes by too quickly! You have been busy too have a great vacation
