Thanks for joining Kim and me for the Weekly Run Down. This week I tagged along with my hubs on a work trip and ended up waking up Vegas. My week was a little different but I got it done to the best of my ability. Here’s a peek into my week of fitness.
Weekly. Run Down Waking Up In Vegas
Sunday-Peloton upper body strength class + core
It was a gorgeous fall day and we went out to a Thai street food festival at a Buddhist Monastery. Then, I did my Peloton upper and lower body strength class to finish day 4 out of 5 of Rebecca’s new split training program, Later, it was time for some Eagles football.

Monday-fly to Las Vegas + stretch class + barre class
We had a very early flight to Las Vegas and arrived in time for lunch. Always takes me a day to get used to the 3 hour time change. I walked around the shops and had multiple coffees while my hubs was in meetings. After 4 back to back heavy strength days, I took today off and did a stretch and barre class.
Tuesday-7 mile walk/hike + stretch class
I took a walk/hike down to the Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas sign which was 3.5 miles each way. Normally, I run this every time I visit but this year it was a walk-hike. I say “hike” because you have to go up and down numerous stairs and escalators to go all the way down the strip instead of walking straight. Wow, it takes a long time to walk this distance vs run.
This 2 hour outing did provide me with fun photos and allow me to hit my 200th walking class on Peloton. We will call that a double win.
Later, we went to the Philadelphia Flyers vs Vegas hockey game. My first NHL in person hockey game. It sure has been a week of Philly sports watching!
Wednesday- lower + upper body strength + core + lots of walking
I was on my own most of the day and I hit the excellent hotel gym to finish day 5 of Rebecca’s split strength training program via Peloton. While my hip area is still pretty sore, I can still manage to do lots of strength. I walked around all afternoon and racked up some nice walking miles.
Thursday-barre + core + upper body strength+ Therabody recovery
There is a fabulous gym here and I have had lots of time to get in my strength workouts. I also took advantage of a Therabody recovery experience which was kind of unique.
While you are reclining in a vibrating chair, the Therabody leg massagers and doing their compression thing. At the same time a heated, vibrating mask is on your eye area. In addition, headphones are placed on with soothing “sound therapy” for a whole body sensory experience. I was a little skeptical at first but it was a pretty fantastic 30 minutes.
Friday- 3 mile walk + upper body strength + core
It was another nice morning for a walk down the Las Vegas Strip with lots to see. The hip and glute are still quite unhappy with me. I also got in a short session with the Hypervolt. It’s great when you do it to yourself but even better when someone does it to you.
I did not have the chance to see U2 in concert at the sphere as we had some other events to attend. We plan to come back and see them sometime soon. It is a pretty spectacular site to see and this pic does not really do it justice.
Saturday-stretch class, lot of walking
A rest day for me today. I am flying home on Sunday.

I used to go to Vegas with my tennis friends every fall. It was fun.
I’ve done the half there at night.
Glad you were able to stay so active while recovering.
Hope you can run again soon.
Deborah Brooks says
I did the half many years ago here it was fun. Busy week here of events but did my best to stay active
Wendy says
I am so sorry to hear that your hip and glute are still plaguing you. Remind me, did you have an MRI? I hope it settles down soon.
Meanwhile, your trip to Vegas looks fabulous!! That Therabody experience sounds amazing. Glad you got to get away!
Deborah Brooks says
No MRI yet this time. Seeing a new Ortho on Wednesday we will see. This was a work trip for my hubs but I did manage to sneak away a bit and have some relaxing time
Kimberly Hatting says
What a fun week (well, most of it). Bummer on the continuous issues you’re dealing with. That’s an impressive walk/hike you took to get to the famous LV sign, though! Hugs to you for better days ahead <3
Deborah Brooks says
thanks it was nice to have a change of venue. While I attended a lot of work events for my hubs, I was able to squeeze in lots of workout time
Coco says
I’m sorry your hip is so cranky. I wasn’t a runner when we went to vegas many years ago, but we did do a lot of walking! The Therabody experience sounds like intense relaxing, if that makes any sense!
How fun to see the Flyers!
Deborah Brooks says
yes it is intense but also very relaxing. I liked it more than I expected to
Debbie says
I’m so sorry to hear that your hip area is still bothering you. I hope it starts to feel better soon. Sounds like you made the most of your trip!
Deborah Brooks says
I hope so too-I have had enough with these injuries
Cari says
VIVA Las Vegas!
That Sphere is crazy.
Glad you gad a great week. That Therabody experience seems cool!
Deborah Brooks says
I must go back and see a concert there it sure is amazing!
Susanne says
Sounds like a fun week! But vibrating mask over your eyes? How was that?
Sorry your glutes & hips are still sore. These injuries…. so frustrating. I wish you all the best, and help for your hips/glutes asap.
Deborah Brooks says
I did not think I would like that mask but I really did!
Jenny says
First of all, thanks for not gloating about the Eagles game last Sunday (grr!)
I’m so sorry your hip is still bothering you, but it sounds like you made the most of your time there. Can you imagine if you couldn’t even walk comfortably? That would REALLY suck! And yes- whenever I’m walking instead of running, I’m astonished how long it takes.
I hope you have a good week and are able to make some progress- a new ortho sounds great. Good luck with it!
Deborah Brooks says
Yes I did not want to gloat about the Eagles but that was quite a game. When it first started bothering me, I really could mot walk for a few days. I can walk now but it hurts all the time. Hoping the new Dr has some new ideas
Melissa says
Hooray for a getaway to Las Vegas! I’m sorry your hip is still not better. That Therabody experience sounds really interesting! I love your Vegas sign tradition. I haven’t been to Vegas in ages and need to come back.
Deborah Brooks says
It is always fun to walk or run down there and people watch.
San says
So happy you had a great week and were able to tag along with your husband. Sounds like you made the best of the week in Sin City 🙂 (and yes, there’s a lot of up and down the escalators when you walk along the strip, LOL).
I am sorry you’re still having issues and can’t run, but you took advantage of strength training and that Therabody massage sounds amazing!
Deborah Brooks says
It is always nice to getaway for a few days!
Jenn says
I feel like Vegas is your home away from home!
My husband wants to go to the sphere in the worst way. Not me. Even pictures of it make me a little seasick. Way too much sensory input for this lady.
NHL games are fun in person – hockey is probably the most exciting of the sports.
Deborah Brooks says
I like Vegas in small doses so a week is a little long but we kept really busy. I am really wanting to go to Sphere but I have no idea how it will be inside!
Nicole @ Foodie Loves Fitness says
A Thai street food festival at a Buddhist Monastery sounds like a lot of fun! A 7 mile walk sure is a good distance.. and the Therabody recovery sounds pretty fun too!
Deborah Brooks says
yes it was a busy week!
Jessie says
The Thai food fest sounds so delicious, very cool! Love Thai food….
Vegas looked like a fun trip! I like your striped sweater from the beginning of the post, very cute.
Deborah Brooks says
It was a busy week!
Black Knight says
Long time ago (2000) I spent very beautiful days in Las Vegas with my family.
The Thai food festival sounds wonderful.
Sorry you can run, I hope you feel better soon.
Deborah Brooks says
you would be so amazed by how much Las Vegas has changed in 25 years!
Lisa @ TechChick Adventures says
Well that stinks that your hip and glutes are still angry. Hopefully it’s doing a bit better now? That Therabody experience sounds pretty intense! I can’t use the massage chairs at the gym. They are too intense for me! I’ll stick with the hydromassage chairs. I would love to see U2 again. I saw them many, many years ago and that sphere concert would be crazy!
Deborah Brooks says
They are getting better but not all better. Hope to try running sometime next week
