Thanks for joining Kim and me for the weekly run down. This week was a pretty solid one leading up to finishing my spring racing season. The major races in the DC area are in March and April due to our hot and humid summers. Sunday will be my 4th spring race in the last 9 weeks and my last one until fall.
finishing the spring racing season
Monday- core + upper/lower body strength + Peloton cycle
I fit a little bit of everything in today. I love a fresh start on a Monday and it always helps me set the tone for the week.
Tuesday- 5.5 mile tempo run + stretch
We woke up to a windy and chilly morning. I am definitely a cooler weather runner. This run was one of those runs where everything just came together and I nailed my tempo paces and I was on a runner’s high all day. I have been doing some of the workouts from my Wilpers training program.
Wednesday- full body strength workout + core + stretch
A solid full body workout all around today. Late afternoon stretch-I am determined to keep up my streak of daily stretches.
Thursday- 5.5 mile run + core + stretch
Another beautiful spring day with temps in the 50s and this run felt great. It is always fun to catch up with some of my BRFs while logging miles.
Friday- full body strength + core + Peloton cycle
I kept my workout a little shorter at 60 minutes and less intense today as I have a race on Sunday.
Sneak preview of Monday’s new recipe: Sheet Pan tomato and spinach ricotta frittata
Saturday- rest day + stretch class
Taking my usual Saturday rest day and stretch class. I did sneak out for a quick neighborhood stroll.
Sunday- George Washington Parkway 10 Miler Race
My last race of the spring racing season! I am not thrilled that summer decided to make an appearance today. It’s going to be warm out there. The forecast is for a hot 86 degrees. Ugh, kind of my worst nightmare! I have reminded myself that I have had a great spring racing season and this one is just a victory lap.
Kimberly Hatting says
A victory lap. indeed! YOU have had a great racing season, so enjoy this victory dance 😉 It’s almost 40-degrees colder here for my race, LOL…but I’m grateful we’ll have full sun. I’ll be fighting the wind as I conquer numerous hills, HA! I think I’ll warm up quickly. Have a great race, Deborah!!
Deborah Brooks says
thanks I really did! It was not as hot as expected at race time so that was much appreciated
Darlene says
Good luck today. You’ve already had some great races. So no pressure today.
Not as warm here and my race is only 5 miles
Deborah Brooks says
It went better than expected! Great way to end the season
Melissa says
You’ve had a great racing season so far!! Good luck with the heat today. Hopefully you can hydrate, take it easy and have fun!
Deborah Brooks says
It went much better than expected. Thanks
Coco says
I’m so bummed I’m not racing with you today, but I’m going to cheer you in to the finish. 🙂
Deborah Brooks says
I was struggling that last mile and knowing you were at the finish was great motivation
Jenny says
Oof- I don’t think anyone would be happy about 86 degrees for a race, and I know you’re not fond of hot weather running. Still, i see you have your water bottle and I’m sending “shade and breeze” vibes your way! I hope it’s fun.
Deborah Brooks says
thanks it worked! The first half was nice and shady and it stayed in the 60’s for the race
Jessie says
I hope you had a great race today! 86 degrees…yowsa! Stay safe and cool.
Deborah Brooks says
thankfully it was shady and it stayed in the 60’s for the race. It went way better than expected
Michelle says
Congrats on a great Spring race season! I hope it wasn’t too hot out there today.
Deborah Brooks says
thanks it turned out to be not as hot as expected at race time
Liz Dexter says
I’m with you on cool running. I think because I learned to run properly one cool, wet summer, that’s what I prefer, and I have to really steel myself to run in the heat. Hope it dialled it down for you!
Deborah Brooks says
yes, I definitely run better in cooler weather too. It went a lot better than I thought today
Marcia says
Yikes that’s hot for a race, especially when is not acclimated to heat. That said you are well trained so my $$ is on you for a big fat PR!
Deborah Brooks says
oh thanks! Actually, it went way better than expected and yes I did get that PR thanks for your support!
Cari says
Dream chaser. So true. So proud of your awesome spring. You worked your ass off.
I don’t have anything on the schedule after today, although I’ll likely jump into Pride or Achilles. After that, nope nope nope.
Deborah Brooks says
thanks Cari it does feel good to feel good. Now to hold onto that!
Chocolaterunsjudy says
You had the most amazing Spring! Congrats! And of course you worked hard for that.
Mid 80s? That is way to hot for a race! Definitely not my jam either. It takes a lot of mental strength!
Deborah Brooks says
Thanks Judy! Thankfully it did not get to the 80’s until later in the day but still a little warm for my taste
Wendy says
It’s so nice to see the strong training continue to pay off for you! Congrats on another great race!
Deborah Brooks says
thanks it turned out better than expected yesterday!
Jenn says
I didn’t get an April race (someone said he would run with me and then changed our race plans to dinner plans. boo!), but I hope to have two in May!
Your spring looks so beautiful. I know it’s warm, but at least it’s not sweltering. Yet.
Deborah Brooks says
not sweltering yet! I know what is coming though. Hope you get those May races in
Debbie @ Deb Runs says
Hopefully, the temperature didn’t reach 86° until long after you were finished with your race. Can’t wait to read your recap!
Deborah Brooks says
Yes we were lucky for sure. We finished with the temp about 70. A little warm for me but it all worked out
