Thanks for joining Kim and me for the weekly run down today. July is typically the hottest and most humid month around here. This week sure lived up to that reputation. Cannot say I am sad to see it end. In fact, I am running out of July just as fast as I can.
Running out of July
Monday- core + upper body + cycle + stretch and afternoon walk
Love to hit it hard on a Monday. It puts me in a great mindset for the week ahead. But always coffee first!
Tuesday- 4.75 mile run + stretch + infrared therapy
Today’s run was brutally hot and humid. I swear, I could literally wring out my clothes. It was slow going with extra walk breaks. Both of my usual running partners are out of town this week. I made the most of my solo running.
I had an appointment scheduled for an infrared sauna and stretch. Not surprising, I was the only crazy person there voluntarily getting in a sauna while it was literally 100 degrees outside. Nevertheless, the stretch felt amazing.
Wednesday- upper and lower body strength + core + mobility and stretch
Today was the first day in a while that I tried some lower body strength. I had been laying off of that as not to irritate my hamstring. It felt pretty good but I got tired towards the end. I decided to skip my planned cycle class and call it a day. Keeping the main thing the main thing. That main thing is staying healthy for running.
My daughter flew in tonight for a few days. So great to have both kids at home for a few days.
Thursday 3.25 miles + hip mobility
Seriously dragging today! I almost bailed on my run (very unlike me) but I got myself up and caffeinated. I think it’s the heat this week that is getting to me. After 3 miles in 96% humidity, I was just done. We have had crazy storms and more on the way. It was a “need more coffee” kind of day!
Friday core + cycle + hip mobility
A shorter but effective workout today. Had a great afternoon massage. Dinner with my parents and both kids. Super nice to all be together again.
Saturday Rest day!
Sitting around thinking about running. It happened to be a cooler and cloudier day but I am sticking with my rest.
Sunday- on the plan 8 miles
I am running out of July just as fast as I can. Hoping for a break in the humidity in August,

I hope August brings some better weather, but some years I feel like August is worse than July! I actually didn’t think this week was too bad compared to a few weeks ago. Maybe I’m just getting used to it lol. Great job with your workouts!
Deborah Brooks says
I think we are getting used it just in time for fall 🙂
Wendy says
If I have to be sidelined from running, missing out on the heat and humidity of July isn’t a bad thing. I’m glad your hamstring calmed down. That massage/sauna looks amazing!
Have a great week!
Deborah Brooks says
It is a good month to be out for sure.

I hear you! I planned to run this morning, and it’s perfect weather, but I’m listening to my body instead. It’ll thank me.
Despite the heat it sounds like a you had a fun week! Hope the 8 miles goes well.
Deborah Brooks says
listening to your body is never wrong. I did get out for a very sweaty run today
Darlene says
Not that hot here but humidity and thunderstorm threats everyday. Ugh.
Good active week for you in spite of that heat.
Hope things cool down for you in August. But let’s not rush summer too much.
Deborah Brooks says
I am definitely ready for some cooler temps!
Kimberly Hatting says
We had a crazy hot and humid week as well. It seems when it does “cool down,” though, the humidity still remains LOL (and vice-versa). Sounds like you had a great time with the daughter home!
Deborah Brooks says
yes it is nice to have both kids home this weekend. Those moments are few and far between these days
Coco says
I think you may luck out with the weather today. I thought the rain was on its way out when I took Scooby out, but it decided to let loose with one more downpour once we were a block away. Is it really realistic to expect August weather to be better though? 😉
Enjoy the time with your daughter!
Deborah Brooks says
ha I was actually hoping to get rained on today it was so thick out there! Yes, I am hoping August is a little better who knows?
Marcia says
I hope the heat moderates for you soon. It is soul sucking and really makes running tough. How fun to have the kids home! I’m savoring these final weeks before mine head back to school
Deborah Brooks says
It is soul sucking you are right. Savoring these moments of having them both here together for a short time.
Cari says
Love the manicure color on Saturday! We will both stay healthy and happy running ahead of fall mischief
SO glad you had some long overdue family time. And yes, this July was just zapping.
Deborah Brooks says
zapping is a good description! Cheers to happy and healthy running
Kim G says
A sauna and a stretch sounds amazing, no matter what the temperature is outside, lol. Fingers crossed that the weather is a little more bearable this upcoming week (the 7 day forecast looks pretty good here)!
Deborah Brooks says
yes the stretch is amazing! And yes the weather does look much better this week looking forward to it
Debbie @ Deb Runs says
Yep, it certainly was a hot week. We didn’t get any of the storms we were expecting, but fortunately the humidity did drop on Friday afternoon. We’ve had lots of rain today, though.
How wonderful to have both of your kids home and to be able to see your parents. Enjoy your time with your daughter during her visit!
Deborah Brooks says
we had 2 really bad storms this week w trees down and we lost power a few times. Funny how localized it can be. Yes, it is nice to have both of our kids home at the same time. Does not happen too often anymore
Jenny says
Yes, I hope you get a break from the heat! It can definitely wear you out. I’m glad the hamstring is feeling good- you’re certainly doing everything you can to keep it healthy!
Deborah Brooks says
I am trying! You know how it is-ongoing battle
Michelle D. says
Glad your hamstring is feeling better! Enjoy the time with your kids at home 🙂
Deborah Brooks says
thanks! You know how it is-those times with them both at home are few and far between
Jessie says
I can’t imagine the weather you have to run through! Yowsa. It will all pay off in the fall!
Glad you had some quality time with the family. Fun week Deborah!
Deborah Brooks says
That is what I hear lol
Renée says
though I can’t say we’ve had any of the heat of which you speak, I know it can really make running challenging and tiring!! nice that you have your kids home! fun! and I bet that stretch was amazing. I can’t quite fully stretch my torso yet but man I cannot wait until it’s possible!
Deborah Brooks says
stretching always feels amazing!
