Thanks for joining Kim and Me for the weekly run down. Ready or not… it’s race week. Maine half marathon race week. As you are reading this, I am either running or finishing the race in Portland, Maine. I was hoping that my glutes would have been feeling much better by now. Alas, that is not the case. I am going to do my best out there and have fun enjoying the scenery.
Ready or not, it’s race week
Monday- core + hip/glute mobility + upper body strength + yoga
I am keeping my workouts a little lighter this week. Figured a little yoga could do the body good. Nothing like a little time on the mat with Peloton’s Denis.
Happy New Year to my Jewish friends. We had a nice family dinner at my parent’s house to celebrate. I don’t think I’ve had a piece of challah bread since last Rosh Hashana and yes, it’s still delicious.
Tuesday- 4 ish mile run + stretch + barre
I did an extra long warm-up before heading out to run. It is still taking me about 2 miles to really feel warmed up. The second 2 miles went better but still had glute pain when running. The good news is that running does not seem to make it worse. I do have an appointment set up with a PT next week so hopefully, I can get some more answers.
Wednesday- core + upper body + yoga + strength for runners
I am keeping my strength training at a lower volume this week. Today’s workout was a nice mix of all things Peloton classes. I also took a short neighborhood walk.
It was time for a fall hair update. I love my fall shade so much and decided to switch up the cut a bit.
Thursday- 5 mile run + stretch
It was just gorgeous out this morning (sorry Florida) and I was pleasantly surprised that my glutes were feeling much better. Did that steroid finally kick in? Are all of my mobility and warm up exercises helping? Who knows but I will take it. I am still having some pain but it’s significantly better at the moment.
Friday- Travel to Portland via Boston
We opted to fly to Boston and drive about 1.5 hours to Portland. We took a quick stop in Salem for lunch. What a fun, quirky little town. Lots of witchy business going on as our visit also coincided with the release of Hocus Pocus 2 and the start of the Halloween season.
Of course, I did a quick peloton hips yoga class to keep up my streak.
Saturday- Visit the expo
We just strolled around town and visited the expo. I am definitely feeling a little undertrained and a lot under confident. What could go wrong with that combo!?
Sunday- Maine Half Marathon!
Stay tuned for a full recap soon!
You just might surprise yourself! And if nothing else, have fun!
I visited Salem on a family vacation when I was very young. I don’t remember much except that it is the birthplace of Nathaniel Hawthorne. Looks like you had fun!
Salem was very touristy but fun. We did have fun at the race and it was not as bad as I expected
good luck!! I love Maine … and Salem! we went there on a few field trips in high school and college.
Thanks a fun place to visit!
Doesn’t misery (over exaggeration, LOL) love company! I hope your race goes well today. As you know, my body is feeling a bit compromised as well…but WE got this. Good luck <3

I hope that your race goes better than you expect — but your hair looks fabulous anyway!
We always enjoy our time in ME and hopefully you will as well.
thanks! It did go a little better than expected
That drive up to Maine from Boston is a pretty one! Enjoy! Glad to hear some of the pain subsided and I hope it stays that way. Have so much fun at your race!
It was a nice drive albeit longer than I planned. The race went better than expected
Sending great vibes your way for a successful race without any further injury! The weather is perfect for running here in Portland this morning.
It was great seeing you last evening! It takes us going all the way to Portland to get together. We need to fix that!
So fun to see you as well. Hope you have a great rest of your trip
I hope everything is going really well for you!
How cool to stop in Salem when fun things were going on.
Your hair looks fabulous!
thanks and yes we did have fun!
I love the new hair color! Noticed it in Salem pic and wasn’t sure if it was the light. Suits you so perfectly. Yay PT for some answers.
My colleague was talking about her challah bread, I told her she was mean for not sharing. You get a pass since it wouldn’t mail well. Glad you were able to celebrate together. xx
challah really does taste so good and I bet you have some great places to find it by you.
Well, I can’t wait for this race recap!!! “Undertrained and under confident”- who knows, it might turn out amazing. Either way, it’ll be an experience.
i LOVE the picture from Salem- how fun!!! I bet the whole trip will be fun and I hope you enjoyed the race.
thanks Jenny it was a fun weekend all around. The race went a little better than expected
Salem sounds like a fun stop for lunch! Hair looks fab!
Thanks Jessie!
I hope race day went well for you! I bet you have a strong enough base to get through a half but I know it’s better to feel like you’ve checked off all of the training days to the best you can.
Your hair looks really great! I decided to still go light at my last appointment but next time I think I’ll have to get some lowlights put into it.
It was better than I thought stay tuned for a full recap Wednesday
I was thinking your hair looked different. I liked it.
The race was hard but pretty course. Glad it went better than expected.
Nice to see you again. Too bad it was rushed.
It was a hard course! We definitely should have stayed longer
Loving the new hair color for Fall!
Congrats on another race finish! I know the course was hard so kudos for another hard earned race finish!
Thanks I am glad I was able to finish and not do any more damage to my glutes. Beautiful course!
