Thanks for joining Kim and me for the weekly run down today. This week, was about powering through my workouts and runs.
Weekly Run Down
Monday- mobility + core + upper body strength + stretch
Stayed up a little too late watching the game and hanging out with my friends. Sadly, the game did not end how our house full of Eagles fans hoped. C’est La Vie! It was a little hard to get moving this morning but it always feels better once you do!
Tuesday-4.5 mile run + stretch
Today’s workout was a 45 min endurance run and it felt good not to worry about pacing and just run with my squad. It was a gorgeous mid 40’s sunny day with ❤️ love in the air.
We are not huge Valentine’s Day people especially on a Tuesday. However, my husband did make me dinner and had a delish cake form my favorite baker.
Wednesday- core + mobility + upper body strength + Peloton cycle + stretch
I am continuing with my daily stretching and mobility classes which are making my hips very happy. Tough upper body strength today followed by cycle class. I am keeping my cycle classes more in the recovery zone until after my half race. No sense in burning my legs out! As my buddy, Matt Wilpers says, “keep the main thing the main thing”.
Thursday- 5.5 mile hill repeats run + stretch + mobility
Today’s workout was a spicy hill repeat and I mean spicy. Thankfully, my squad was willing to run with me which definitely helped. Those hills are speedwork and leg work in disguise, I was starving afterwards! Powering through!
Friday- barre + core + upper body strength + stretch
I backed off on the lower body strength today because I plan to run on Saturday instead of Sunday. Proud to hit my 1500th stretch class today! I have been making stretching a daily habit and I know I am better off for it.
Saturday- 10 mile run + stretch
I was happy to finally get in a double digit run again. However, I do wish I felt a little stronger doing it at this point. I am going to say that my legs may have still been tired from that crazy hill workout. As I normally run on Sunday, I did not have that extra recovery day.
Mother nature decided to remind us that it was indeed winter again. We awoke to temps in the mid 20’s with some serious wind gusts. At least the sun was out! Powering through none the less!
Sunday- rest day for me!
Kimberly Hatting says
Nice week, Deborah! I should take a cue from you & work in more daily stretching… I do a little each day, but definitely need to be much more focused on it. Enjoy your rest day!
Deborah Brooks says
I really feel the extra stretching is helping a lot. I like to do a few shorter classes throughout the day
Wendy says
You’re putting in a lot of hard work and I am sure it will pay off come race day! It sounds like Matt WIlpers program is such a good fit for you and really, a smart training program.
We’re not Valentine’s Day people–lol I bought heart-shaped ravioli and forgot to make it! Mike made steak and it was a treat since I don’t eat a lot of beef. We had a potluck at work, which was nice too!
Deborah Brooks says
I always liked Valentine’s Day when the kids were little and still send them little treats. I do like the training program and enjoy the workouts
Melissa says
nice job with the double digit run! enjoy the rest day today. we aren’t valentines people either I guess you could say- my husband made dinner that I like (for me and the kids) and white chocolate covered strawberries.
Deborah Brooks says
Hey that’s all you can ask for! LOL
Darlene Cardillo says
Nice job on the long run. Love your Valentine’s Day outfit.
Deborah Brooks says
Thanks! You know I love my holidays themed outfits
Coco says
Congrats on 1500 stretch classes! I just did that hill workout on my tread. It was tough!
After my bout of covid I think I’m a few weeks out from double digits, but my first race is Cherry Blossom so I have time and only need to get up to 10 miles.
You will be so ready for your half — I know you are more ready than you think already.
Deborah Brooks says
I am really enjoying the consistency of the stretch classes. They feel good! Hannah may think I am stalking her though LOL. I don’t know how ready I am but it’s approaching quickly. That hill workout was really tough!
Jenny says
Wow, that hill workout looks HARD! No wonder your legs were still fatigued on Saturday. But, doing 10 miles on slightly tired legs is good training. And I love that Matt Wilpers quote. Sometimes I feel like I’m not doing enough strength training, and I have to remind myself that I can’t focus on everything all at once.
Sorry about the Super Bowl- yeah, that would be a tough way for the game to end for the Eagles fans. And, I LOVE your color coordinated Valentine’s Day running outfits- you girls definitely know how to make it fun!
Deborah Brooks says
It was a tough hill workout! I do love my holiday themed outfits-it’s the little things right?!
Teresa says
I’m not as consistent with stretching as I should be. I am better than I used to be though. I love hill work. I’ll take hills over speed work any day of the week. Glad you had your squad to run it with you though. I loved your pictures! They just brighten up the day looking at them.
Deborah Brooks says
I so lucky to have my squad and I appreciate them daily!
Debbie says
I like that Matt Wilpers quote, “Keep the main thing the main thing.” That’s too easily overlooked when we’re trying to fit in “all the things.”
We’re not huge Valentine’s people either, but I did make a special dinner. I love your “heart” pictures from your run with your friends!
Deborah Brooks says
It is easy to forget and try to fit it all in. I do like my holiday run outfits
Susanne says
That’s a very good week for you, Deborah! Spicy is a good word for hill runs. 😀 You remind me that I’ve fallen out of my routine with stretching and mobility work for the hips, I need to get back to that because my hip mobility needs some serious work.I’ll probably re-write my Sunday strength program to include that, and another hip strength exercise too.
Maybe you’ve said it somewhere already but when is your half marathon?
Deborah Brooks says
Keeping up with the hip mobility is huge for me. It’s made a big difference in how I feel. I am doing the NY half on March 19
Jessie says
Great job on the 10 miler! That must feel good to have that behind you. Love the Valentine’s pictures! Your Tuesday plans were similar to mine, the husband cooked dinner 🙂
Deborah Brooks says
It does feel good to have that behind me!
Marcia says
I love MW’s advice about keeping the main thing the main thing. I see so many people, on social media especially, all over the place with their workouts then wondering why they’re burned out and over trained. I still send the kids Valentine’s day goodies too!
Deborah Brooks says
Yes, I completely agree. You can do everything just not at the same time
Michelle says
Nice job on getting back to double-digits! And congrats on all those stretch classes. We’re not big V-Day people either – we kept it low-key and ordered in sushi.
Deborah Brooks says
The stretch classes are paying off for me!
Chocolaterunsjudy says
I know you’re going to do great. You’ve made such great changes in your training!
And you can laugh at me for being sore after running 2 very slow miles. 🙂
Deborah Brooks says
I would never do that! Running is very cyclical and what feels easy one day is super hard another day. I am sure you are happy to be back at it. Slow and steady is the way to go
Jenn says
Sorry about the game. I wasn’t really rooting for either team, and got to bed at a decent hour.
Love all your red and pink for Valentine’s Day!
San says
Great week, Deborah. Stretching and mobility classes make such a difference. And yay for getting back to double digits. I always feel it’s a little daunting, but then it gets easier again….
Matt has such good pieces of advice. I love his coaching style!
Deborah Brooks says
It does feel daunting when it’s been a while!
Lisa @ TechChick Adventures says
That hill workout does look tough! Do you program that into your watch? I’m glad my workouts have pretty much just been some sort of interval so far because the intervals are so easy to program on my watch! Great job getting it done. Having workout buddies sure does make it seem easier.
Deborah Brooks says
Yes I did program it into my garmin connect it took a while but it worked perfectly. Tough workout
Cari says
Love the pink leopard tights and nicely done with the heart.
Isn’t it great when friends are willing to run your miles? Makes them fly
Deborah Brooks says
yes it sure is helpful!
Kim G says
I was secretly hoping that the Eagle would win the Super Bowl but it was still a really great game!
I’ve been hearing such great things about the Peloton mobility classes – I am going to check them out this week.
Deborah Brooks says
yes, we were a little disappointed!
Check out Hannah’s 20 m lower body I have it on repeat-its a good one!
