Weekly Run Down On Island Time

Thanks for joining me and kim for the weekly run down today. This week we have had the good fortune to be sailing around the British and French West Indies on an amazing cruise. I am enjoying being on Island time and trying to embrace relaxing.

Weekly run down

Sunday- Elliptical + core + arms

There is a small gym aboard our ship and I chose to do some elliptical for a change. Since we were basicallly in the middle of the Caribbean, I could not get off to run. As you all know, I avoid the treadmill so elliptical it was.

Then, we were transported to a private island for a day of relaxing with an amazing view. I may not come home. 🙂

Sea dream

Monday- 3 mile run + core and stretch

Today our boat docked in St. Marteen in the morning and we hopped off for a short 3 mile run finishing along the beach. The water was an amazing blue color. I had a relaxing Thai massage in the afternoon.

Tuesday- 30 min elliptical + core + full body strength and stretch

I am not a fan of the bike on the ship so I have been taking advantage of the elliptical while playing a Peloton walk or cycle class. Gotta keep up that streak!

In the afternoon we went into St.Barts in the French West Indies for lunch at a delicious pizza place. We walked around town for a bit before heading back to the ship.

Wednesday– visiting the Baths and Caves of  Virgin Gorda, Virgin Islands. Nothing like the breathtaking beauty of natural caves and beautiful water. It was a fun day of exploring and playing on Virgin Gorda. See my IG reel for al the views. Don’t worry I got in my daily core and barre to keep up my Peloton streak.

Island time

Island time

Thursday-Elliptical + upper & lower body strength + barre + core + foam rolling

We are anchored off a Norman Island in the West Indies. I stayed on board today and got in a good 90 min in the gym. We spent the afternoon relaxing and reading by the pool and enjoying our island time.

Friday- elliptical + core + barre + yoga

I got in a solid gym workout again today before plopping my butt onto a beach chair to read the rest of the day. I finished my 3rd book just in time.

Island time sea dream

Saturday– airport Peloton walk

I hit my 5k minutes on Peloton with a 20 min airport walk.

All good things must come to an end! After more than a week of relaxing and enjoying some island time, it’s time to go home. Another fabulous vacation ✅.

About Deborah Brooks

Hi I'm Deborah! I spend my days successfully raising a husband & 2 teens in the VA/DC area. I am a lover of all things running & fitness. As a life long vegetarian, I've always been passionate about healthy living & exercise. Looking for partners in crime, I started my own chapter of Moms Run This Town (MRTT) which has grown to over 700 members. I've met so many amazing women who inspire me daily to keep moving forward. You can usually find me running with my crew and training for the next crazy adventure they talked me into. I love to keep up to date on new running & fitness trends. I definitely choose my running gear based on color and love to express my fashion sense while exercising.

Ah, it looks so nice!!! And I love your swimsuits (especially that blue one!) Reading on the deck of a cruise ship sounds like my dream getaway. I’m glad you had such an incredible time!

It was super relaxing! Very unlike me to read 3 books in a week

The caves were really cool we had seen them before about 15 years ago and fun to Bo back

The pictures have all been gorgeous! Looks like a great time. Way to keep that streak going too! I did run on the treadmill when I was on a cruise and also on the track. The track was so odd! I usually don’t like any treadmills other than my own 😉

    • Deborah Brooks says

      04/16/2023 at 8:42 am

Because the boat was moving even when it was docked, I knew I would hate the tread mill. Only got in one actual run on land but that’s ok 🙂

Glad you got some time to destress It all looks amazing!

The only cruises I’ve done were on big boats, so I used to run on the promenade deck (which is usually about .25 mile). A runner’s gotta do what a runner’s gotta do. 🙂

    • Deborah Brooks says

      04/16/2023 at 8:43 am

Yes, I have done that years ago on a large boat as well. I will be back to my regular routine today

It looks like an amazing vacation! I was just lamenting that we haven’t planned any vacations yet this year.

Interesting that you don’t like doing the bike on board but don’t mind the elliptical. I guess on the elliptical you have more ability to adjust your own position?

Great job keeping up your streak and hitting 5K minutes!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      04/16/2023 at 8:44 am

The bike was just an older style that was more recumbent so the elliptical was more like running to me. I also liked that I would be using my upper body. I kind rotated between walking and cycling Peloton classes to keep me entertained and that worked well

Your getaway looks amazing and I’ll bet it was the perfect antidote to all the stress you’ve been under over the past few weeks. It’s been so many years since I’ve been to St. Barts! I’d love to go back! They were speaking only French when I was there. I wonder if that’s still the case.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      04/16/2023 at 4:01 pm

There were definitely a few French speakers still there and it was fun to pull out some high school French in the restaurant. Of course, they always answer you back in English just to show you how awful your French is LOL

Well, that looks like a rather pleasant week! All the sunshine! I wouldn’t mind having some.
I can imagine keeping up a fitness routine can’t be easy on a cruise ship. But great keeping up what you can. Running on that beach looks fabulous!

It sure was a fantastic get away!

I admire that you kept up your fitness routine. I think I would struggle to be disciplined enough!
Did your husband join you in any of your activities? (So that he knows that we are checking on him, haha!)
