Thanks for joining me and Kim for the weekly run down. This week my thoughts were all over the place. I really don’t have a theme. Here’s a peek into my week of fitness and life.
Weekly Run Down
Monday- core, barre + full body strength
I was determined to stick with my regular Monday workout as best I could. Turns out being told to keep your heart rate under 100 bpm is not as easy as it sounds when you are used to hitting it hard. Lifting heavy weights over your head sends your HR spiking. I had to pause my strength class a few times to just let me HR drop for a few seconds. I did get it done.
Tuesday- core + upper body strength + Peloton cycle + stretch
I am continuing to do what I can to keep up my regular exercise routine until I get some more guidance.
Wednesday- Cherry Blossom walking tour + stretch
It was a gorgeous morning for a walk around the tidal basin to see the Cherry Blossoms 🌸. They are just about at full peak and just spectacular as always.
I had a long visit with my new Cardiologist. Short version is that I need to have further testing which will take a few weeks. Good news: I am allowed to run 3-4 miles in the interim. Additionally, I was put on different medication which will also help. I am going to give myself a few days to get adapt to them and try to run this weekend.
Thursday -core + full body strength + Peloton cycle + yoga/stretch
I was feeling a lot like my old self today. While I did not do my regular Thursday run, I got in a pretty solid workout with heavy weights and Peloton cycle.
Friday-planned rest day
I switched up my rest day to Friday and got a nice long massage. Of course, I did my Peloton stretch to keep up my streak.
Saturday-core + barre + Peloton cycle with weights
After a little sleep in, I hit the Peloton and had a nice workout. I hit my 4K milestone on Peloton today. This afternoon, we attended the Bar Mitzvah of one of my besties’ sons. It was really nice to be together with all of my friends and their husbands.
Sunday-Planned 3-4 mile run
I am really looking forward to my run today! Thanks to all of you who reached out to me this past week. I really appreciate all the kind words and feel so very lucky to have you all in my life. Xoxo

Hugs to you Deborah! Keeping the HR <100 is challenging while working out. I hope the meds and further investigation work in your favor. Wow it's so beautiful there already! Are the blossoms a bit early??
Deborah Brooks says
Now I can run for a short time so we will see how that goes. This is exactly when the blossoms bloom yearly. They usually peak a week before the race and the parades!

I’m glad you’re getting some answers and have a modified plan for your runs. I love your Cherry Blossom walk! You ladies certainly dressed the part 😉
Deborah Brooks says
You know I like my themed running attire!
Wendy says
I’m just so sorry that you have to deal with so much unknown! Make the most of those runs and don’t hesitate to reach out if you need to talk. Those cherry blossoms are beautiful!
Deborah Brooks says
Thanks so much Wendy

What gorgeous pictures from your Wednesday walk to see the cherry blossoms! Looking forward to seeing you on Friday!
Deborah Brooks says
Yes, me too will be great to catch up
Coco says
I’m glad you got to see your new cardiologist already and that he said it’s OK to run some!
I really need a massage after all the stress and time in my mom’s hospital room!
Deborah Brooks says
Yes I am sure we will have a lot to play around with but it is nice to get clearance to run some. I have a great massage guy for you if you’d like
Darlene S Cardillo says
Sending more hugs your way. Thinking about you and praying things are resolved (in a good way.) The unknown is the worst.
Hoping today’s run goes ok.
Love those cherry blossom pics… it still loos like winter here… in fact some snow/rain mix forecast for tomorrow night.
Deborah Brooks says
The unknown is the worst for sure. Today went great thanks
Jenny says
Well, this is good news! I’m sure it’s still frustrating to have so many unknowns, but getting cleared to run is fantastic. Any running is good running- 3-4 miles will feel amazing.
I absolutely love your outfits for the cherry blossom walk!
Deborah Brooks says
It felt great to get back out there today!
Susanne says
I’m so, so sorry to hear about your heart problem and hope you’ll get some answers and help. It’s good to hear you got some medication and that you can run at least short runs! I hope your run today felt good.
I totally get you with the HR during heavy lifting. That cherry tree looks amazing!!! Some of them are beginning to bloom here too. I have one with white flowers in my garden.
Deborah Brooks says
thanks and yes it did feel great to get back out there today

I don’t think I could run with a HR under 100!. I’m really sorry that you’re having to go through all of this but hopefully it won’t be a big issue and will get sorted out soon, although I imagine that it must be disturbing.
Such beautiful flowers of the cherry blossoms! I’m not sure I’ll ever see them in person, so thank you for sharing.
Deborah Brooks says
I am now allowed to run at 75% max so that is doable for me. Yes, I am anxious to get answers soon
Michelle says
I’m so glad you got to see the cardiologist, though I’m sure it’s frustrating to still not have all of the answers. Continuing to send hugs your way!
Love your photos of the Cherry Blossoms and the matching attire 🙂
Deborah Brooks says
Yes, do feel like I am in a weird limbo for another 10n days or so. Thanks for the good vibes 🙂
San says
Ugh, I am so sorry you’re dealing with some unexpected health-related news…. especially when you’re not having any symptoms. But I am glad they’re taking a thorough look at you. I am so sorry you missed out on the HM (sorry I am kinda catching up late)… but you sure did make the best of your weekend in NYC.
Those cherry blossoms look amazing!
Deborah Brooks says
Thanks I am trying!
Cari says
Loving all the pink, especially you and your friends’ outfits. Nicely done to get a pic without people. So so glad you have a path to answers <3
Deborah Brooks says
It was so crowded down there! Yes waiting for the answers is the hardest part. Looking forward to the distraction of having you all visit this week
Kim G says
i am glad that you were able to see your new cardiologist so soon and that you have the green light to run a few miles, that’s great. I’m sure it feels hard to navigate this as it’s all new, but I think you’re doing a fantastic job.
Jenn says
Hugs. I’m sure this is so frustrating for you. I hope you get some solid answers and a clear path soon. And I hope the new meds work well for you. I am here if you need to vent.
Jessie says
Sounds like good news from the cardiologist! Keeping your HR low is tough though. Good luck Deborah and I hope the meds help!
Shathiso says
Those cherry blossoms are incredible!
Happy to read running is not off the table. I can imagine how anxious you’ll feel waiting for those other results. Hopefully, sticking to your usual routine will help. So sorry you’re going through this.
Deborah Brooks says
Thanks so much 🙂
