Thanks for joining Kim and me for the weekly run down today. Apparently, I just can’t stay put! I headed out to Houston this weekend for a social media conference. More on that later. For now, here’s a peek into my week of fitness and running.
Weekly Run Down I can’t stay put
Monday-core + barre+ upper body strength + cycle + stretching
I was super motivated this morning! I stacked up an aggressive line of classes and got it done. Mondays are actually one of my favorite days to work out. For me, they set the tone for the week ahead.
Tuesday-5 mile run + 1.5 mile walk + stretch + barre
I am back to my Tuesday Tempo runs. I thought it was not the best idea to pick up where I left off before my trip. So, I went back to some earlier tempo workouts in my program. Success! Just what I needed for a confidence boost.
Wednesday- barre + upper & lower body strength + core + Peloton cycle
A little bit of everything today to round out my Wednesday. I am really enjoying the 10 minute barre classes as a strength warmup. They are pretty much all glutes and hips activation and mobility exercises. I am trying to add a 10 minute class daily. So far so good!
Thursday- 5 mile run + 1 mile walk + stretch + core
We had crazy thunder storms all night last night and it was still raining this morning. A little rain is still better than scorching summer heat! We got it done. Speaking of heat, I am headed to Houston for the Small Biz Social Society annual conference. Should be a really fun weekend.
Friday- 10 min barre + core + arms strength
I did a quick 30 minutes of Peloton classes in my room. We had some fun mini photo shoots this morning. I am really excited to see how they turn out.
It was crazy hot so I went to the mall for a few hours and got some summer dresses.
I knew I wanted to run on Saturday and I started googling around to see where the best spot near my hotel would be. I stumbled across an 8K race about 15 minutes from my hotel. Hmm..what would Darlene do? LOL Yes, I did spontaneously sign up!
Saturday- 8k race + social society 2022 conference
Why yes I did run a spontaneous 8K this morning. I adjusted my pace & my expectations due to the heat and humidity. Whew, it was tough going out there. But, I did have fun chatting with some local runners and exploring the Houston run scene. Yes, this is why I do not do summer races!
I spent the rest of the day at the social society conference discussing all things social media. It was really interesting to hear content creators from different areas and learn some of their strategies. Long day but lots of fun.
I did manage a short barre class and stretch to keep up my Peloton streak.
Sunday- Travel home
I think I can stay put at home next week. After that, who knows?! This is my summer of yes, I can I will be there. What time and when?
Kimberly Hatting says
I bet Houston was a blast with all the activities, I’m interested to hear more about the conference! We may need to do a “walk & talk” this week 🙂
Deborah Brooks says
that would be fun!
Wendy says
Sounds like a fun, busy week! I am curious to hear what you learned at your conference. I just mentioned on Friday that I need a content creator, lol.
Congrats on that spontaneous race! it looks hot but a lot of fun.
Deborah Brooks says
we talked a lot about content creation and I sometimes struggle with that too. I look forward to chatting w you about it
Debbie @ Deb Runs says
I love that you channeled your inner Darlene and ran a race while in Houston! Your social media conference sounds like a lot of fun – can’t wait to see what you start sharing as a result of what you learned!
I kept an eye out for you on Tuesday while riding on the W&OD Trail down in your neck of the woods. We left our house just after 5 AM so we were probably already out of your area by the time you would have hit the trail (if that’s where you did your tempo run).
Have a great week!
Deborah Brooks says
Yes, we run at around 8 am now so I guess you would be long past by then!
Coco says
I’m so glad you’re liking those barre classes – they really are great for pre-run glute activation.
Hopping into a local race is a great way to see a city! I’m not sure I would have thought to do that!
I can’t wait to hear about the conference. Let me know if you have any time to meet up this weekend — maybe for real coffee. 🙂
Deborah Brooks says
Let me check my schedule and get back to you!
Marcia says
How fun to jump into a race! Blazing hot or otherwise! Haha! The conference sounds interesting. Good for you for making a summer of YES!
Deborah Brooks says
it was fun despite the heat. I don’t think this is the best time to visit Texas!
Chocolaterunsjudy says
LOL at the last sentence! Houston in the Summer is a beast, and so are you! I do love me some Barre (haven’t tried Peloton’s, I have a fav online teacher for that).
I’m trying to decide if we should take a small road trip somewhere this Summer. If only gas weren’t so dang expensive!
Deborah Brooks says
yes take the road trip life is too short to wait!
Jenny says
Yes, you will end up running a lot more races if you ask yourself “WWDD?” ha ha…
Sounds like a really fun time, and I can’t wait to hear about the conference. I’ve been wondering about those barre classes- I’m definitely going to check them out- sounds like they might be a good warmup for running.
Deborah Brooks says
Yes, Darlene is good motivation! Def check out Hannah’s barre classes I am really enjoying them quite a bit
Cari says
I feel like summer is always “what time and when?” but especially after the last two years. Even beyond trips, plans are v ery spur of the moment but I love having space for both
Glad you’re enjoying the conference! That tote is great
and yes, signs are the new animal masks from the 90s bar/bat mitzvahs!
Deborah Brooks says
I am trying to be more spontaneous and just go with it Life is short!
Michele Heller says
I did Barre for a short time and loved it. So glad you are enjoying it. I’d love to hear what you learned in Houston. And I just love when you can find a race where you just happen to be. Sounds like a fun trip all around.
Deborah Brooks says
The peloton barre classes and not what I would call traditional barre maybe that is why I like them! Yes, it was fun to just hop into a race
Michelle says
Good for you for making the last-minute race decision 🙂
Curious to hear more about that conference!
Jessie says
Sounds like a really fun week Deb! So great you jumped into a local 8k
Deborah Brooks says
it was a great way to get a training run in despite the heat
Kim G says
What a fun week for you! I love that you enjoy working our on Mondays – Mondays are actually my least favorite days to work out because it takes me a little time to get motivated to move, but once I am working out, I’m fine, lol.
I absolutely LOVE that you did a spontaneous 8K while in Houston!
Deborah Brooks says
Getting a hard workout in on Mondays helps to set the tone and motivate me for the week. I get a slower start for sure but then the switch turns on. It is very unlike me to do the spontaneous race but I am glad I did.
Liz Dexter says
Oof, a summer race in Houston – very brave!
Deborah Brooks says
yes, I was in a heat induced delirium 🙂
Shathiso says
LOL at “What would Darlene do?” Yes, she would most certainly have signed up and glad you did too! I hope you’ll share some behind the scenes footage of that photo shoot! Sounds like so much fun 🙂
Deborah Brooks says
yes, I do plan to on Friday!
