Weekly Run Down Blowing Through The Week

Things Thanks for joining me and Kim for the weekly run down. This week, I am ready to start tapering for NYC and babying a few little niggles to make sure that they don’t get worse. I have some on and off plantar pain in my right heel. Some days it bothers me some days it doesn’t. It was not happy after last Sunday’s long run.

weekly run down

Monday- core + upper body strength + Peloton + stretching

My feet were sore upon waking this morning but felt a lot better after walking around and working out. My annoyance today- I found out that I cannot use my Orange Mud hydration pack at my NYC race. I understand and very much appreciate security protocols to keep runners safe. However, I don’t really see a difference between a waist pack vs a backpack style. Anyway, I got rid of my waist packs years ago. I am off to road runner sports to try a few on.

Weekly run down

Tuesday- 4 mile run + stretch

My foot felt much better today and so did I. My warm-up is always super slow as it takes me a good 20 min to warm up and find my stride. I am loving the mid-run strides to mix it up. Always nice to have my squad along!

The wind was insane this afternoon blowing up to 30 mph. I was outside trying to film this IG reel in shorts and my tripod blew over twice! Things we do for the gram. LOL

Weekly run down

Wednesday- core + mobility + upper body strength + stretching

A little bit of everything today. I am starting to cut back on the intensity a bit with the half in 10 days. Things felt good today and celebrated International Women’s Day with Brooks. I love how much this company gives back to so many charities.

Blowing through March

Thursday- 5.5 mile run + stretch

Today’s interval run went pretty well. My heel is feeling a lot better. I did take a few walk breaks for water and fuel but all good. It was so windy and cold again at the start but the sun was shining. We are definitely blowing through this week!

Blowing through March

I had a nice lunch with my mom today. She was away for 4 weeks so we had a lot to catch up on!

Blowing through March

Friday- core + full body strength + yoga and stretch

I was not really feeling it today but getting it done ✅

Saturday-Rest day + stretch and mobility

While technically a rest day, I did help my son move into his new apartment. We will be empty nesters again!

Sunday- 8 mile run on the plan

Tapering for the NYC half next weekend! It was such a windy and much colder week. We were definitely blowing through it. Just when you think it’s spring!

      I cannot believe it either!

    Enjoy the taper.

Hope your heel pain goes away.

Looking forward to meeting up on Sat and cheering you on Sunday.

It’s a touch of PF so I am doing what I can. I will make it! See you soon

  3. Wendy says

I’m so sorry about the heel pain. I hope it stays calm for your race. And yes, this weather is all over the place!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      03/12/2023 at 7:24 am

It is a little bit of PF some days are more annoying than others. I will make it through!

  4. Marcia says

Sorry about the heel pain. I hope it resolves before your race. Since our “snow event” we’ve been below normal temperatures and I’m not happy about that. Bring on spring!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      03/12/2023 at 7:25 am

I sure thought it was spring and some days it really is 🙂

  5. Coco says

    03/12/2023 at 7:39 am

I hope those niggles STFU (as Hannah Frankson would say). Your training has gone so well, you should have a great race!

I’m sure you have mixed feelings on the empty nest, but it sounds like he will be pretty close?

    • Deborah Brooks says

      03/12/2023 at 7:48 am

I hope they go away too. It’s a touch of PF so some days it is more annoying than others. Hoping todays run goes well. Yes, it is always hard to let them go but he is literally 3 miles away 🙂

  6. Debbie says

    03/12/2023 at 7:46 am

I hope you can keep your PF pain at a minimal and it doesn’t rear its ugly head during your upcoming races.

I love that North Face jacket you’re wearing in Tuesday’s picture!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      03/12/2023 at 7:48 am

Me too it is minor but annoying none the less. I love that jacket too I have it in 2 colors. They don’t make it anymore

  7. Kimberly Hatting says

    03/12/2023 at 9:07 am

My PF was localized in my heel(s) as well. It wasn’t too bothersome running, but walking was painful. I hope yours mellows out. What is with this nutzo weather? We got hit with another crazy snow storm yesterday…

    • Deborah Brooks says

      03/12/2023 at 12:48 pm

It is minor at this point and I hope to keep it that way! No telling what the weather will be in 2 weeeks

  8. Jenny says

    03/12/2023 at 10:01 am

That IS a bummer about the hydration vest. As you know, I love mine so much (the single one!) and it’s the only thing I’ve found that I really don’t even notice while I’m running. You’ll have to let us know if you find a good alternative.
UGH, not plantar fasciitis. Just keep stretching- maybe you foot is just getting adjusted to the longer distances. And I’m excited that your race is a week away! Enjoy your taper.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      03/12/2023 at 12:48 pm

I know I have been using the vest for 3 years! My waist pack was not terrible today so I guess I will make do!

  9. Liz Dexter says

    03/12/2023 at 12:23 pm

That’s a shame about the backpack ban, I’m sure a race I’ve done has done that, although I find a waist belt more comfortable anyway (I love the Salomon ones but they’re expensive).

    • Deborah Brooks says

      03/12/2023 at 12:49 pm

I tried on a few but some did not fit my larger phone which I like to have. I will make do!

  10. Michelle says

    03/12/2023 at 1:21 pm

Hope those PF niggles stay away. You’ve had a good training cycle – enjoy your taper!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      03/12/2023 at 5:58 pm

      Thanks Michelle!

  11. Jessie says

    03/12/2023 at 1:26 pm

I haven’t ever worn a vest during a race, but I can see how its helpful to use what you’re used to in training- and to have your phone!

Did I see that Meta isn’t paying for reels anymore? Will you still focus on them as much? I wonder if that means the algorithm will change too.

Good luck at the race, you are ready and will rock it! Have fun!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      03/12/2023 at 5:59 pm

I was definitely used to my vest but I will be ok! Hoping that IG static posts start to come back more creating reels takes a lot of time!

    03/12/2023 at 2:34 pm

Yay for the mother & daughter reunion! Glad to hear that the foot seems to be feeling better.

I did know from Cari’s posts that hydration vests aren’t permitted in NYC. That would be a problem for me, too!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      03/12/2023 at 6:00 pm

I was just used to running w my vest so I had a last minute panic. I will be ok!

  13. Cari says

    03/12/2023 at 9:18 pm

    Great pic with your mom.
Love the tights with the shamrock shoes. That is my kind of attire as you well know
Glad the foot felt better as the week went on

    • Deborah Brooks says

      03/12/2023 at 9:27 pm

It was a lot better today-I will make it! 🙂

  14. Jenn says

    03/13/2023 at 9:27 am

    So excited for you!
One day I will get there!

Love that you had a nice time with your mom! And best of luck to your son in his new place!

Weird that they allow waist packs and not backpacks. I don’t like wearing either – if I have to take something, it’s a handheld.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      03/13/2023 at 12:07 pm

and I cannot do a handheld for 2+ hours! We all are so different w that 🙂

You are so ready for this race!! How exciting! Bubble wrap time 🙂 Hugs on being empty nesters. I have recently created a Pinterest board of places I want to go and things to do when our son leaves for college. I need to focus on something for the big change. Best of luck on your race. I’ll be cheering you on from Ohio!
