Thanks for joining Coco and me for the January Ultimate Coffee Date. It has been a chilly one this week so I will have my coffee extra hot and extra large. Thanks! I’ve got lots to chat about today as usual so let’s jump right in.
Warming up to the January Ultimate Coffee Date
If we were having coffee, I would tell you…
After I complained last week (in the Runfessions post) about not getting into Matt Wilper’s Run Coaching program, I emailed them expressing my disappointment. To my surprise and delight, they emailed back saying that they found a space for me. So, I am in! I am not exactly sure what I signed up for but it is always fun to learn from a great coaching staff. Stay tuned for details it starts Monday!
If we were having coffee, I would tell you…
I got a really cool gift for my parents called Storyworth. Basically, they send a question to the recipient of your choice about their life via email each week. They then, email the answers back. After one year, all the questions are put into a bound keepsake book with photos and sent back to them and me. The questions are things like, “what was your favorite childhood memory? What was your first date with your spouse like? What was your first job? etc.
Before I ordered it, I asked them both if they were on board with doing it. They both promised they would keep up with the weekly emails and questions. So far, my mom has kept up and completed hers. My dad has not. Apparently, he is “busy”. With what I do not know. I kind of expected him to flake out. I know he is going to be very jealous when my mom’s book is complete.
Anyway, I really think this is a fantastic gift to give to aging parents and very reasonably priced, so I wanted to share it with you all. I wish I had done it for my grandmother. You can find the details at Storyworth.
Thanks for warming up with me. If we were having coffee, what would you tell me?

Such great news on the coaching! He’s such a fun instructor:-) I love that gift idea for your parents! I doubt mine would follow it through, LOL, though it’s a great concept.
Deborah Brooks says
It is a great concept and I really hope my parents follow through
Marcia says
What a wonderful gift! That said, I’m pretty sure my mom would not complete it. Yay for getting in Matt Wilper’s running group! Have fun with that!
Deborah Brooks says
I hope my parents will get it done as it would be so fantastic to have
Michelle D. says
What a great gift idea! It will be really fun to see how the end product turns out.
I’m glad they were able to find a spot for you in Matt’s training group. Looking forward to hearing more about it!
Deborah Brooks says
It is a fabulous gift idea if they actually follow through with it …
Darlene says
Great news about the Training group. It pays to complain.
What a great idea. So much fun to complete I bet.
Deborah Brooks says
I hope they actually complete it.
Coco says
Are you prepared for the coaching to involve tread workouts? 😀
The storyworth books do so great. I wonder if my Mom would be more receptive to doing it if it came from my kids? i wonder if my FIL would do it. Hmmm.
Deborah Brooks says
So apparently it can be done inside or out. I need to get more details on what I am doing. My parents seemed really excited about it but follow through is not their strong point
Jenny says
I love that Storyworth so much, and I wish I had done it with my parents. Although… i’m not sure if my dad would have followed through either!
The squeaky oil gets the grease! I’m glad you got into the coaching program and can’t wait to hear all about it.
Deborah Brooks says
I really hope they follow through! Yes, I am excited to check out the run program and see what I can learn
Erica @ Erica Finds says
Interested to hear about your training group! I tried to get into one here and they have a 6 month wait for virtual and 2 year wait for in person. I even shared my fun goals for the year and no go!
That’s a really cool gift and will be a treasure for your kids!
Deborah Brooks says
wow that must be a popular program! maybe you need to start your own 🙂 I really hope my parents follow through so we have it for generations
Cari says
What a wonderful gift and keepsake. Can imagine how the prompts might encourage a story they wouldn’t otherwise think to share
Look forward to following your Matt training
Deborah Brooks says
Yes, I am really looking forward to reading their answers! Also excited about the training
Kim G says
Storyworth seems like a really nice and unique gift! Like you, I would expect my mom to keep up with it, but my dad, not so much, lol.
I’m looking forward to hearing all about the Matt Wilper’s run Coaching program!
Deborah Brooks says
Yes, I really hope they do keep up with it bc it will be so nice to have. Also yes, excited about the run coaching hope I can figure it out
Chocolaterunsjudy says
That does sound like a cool gift! I’ve taken some videos of my mom talking about her earlier days. She doesn’t email though. Now I’m reluctant to even video her because I’m not sure that’s really how I want to remember her. It’s funny, though, because she’d be like “why do you want to do that/” but once we got started, you couldn’t shut her up!
Congrats on getting into the coaching I’m sure it’ll be interesting!
Deborah Brooks says
I can understand the video reluctance. Perhaps you can ask her questions and take some notes on her answers if you are looking for some ways to keep a record. I wish I had done this years ago
Debbie @ Deb Runs says
I love the idea of Storyworth as a gift. You mom will love it! Hopefully, your dad will get on board soon.
Deborah Brooks says
I sure hope he does! I love the idea as well
Farrah says
I’m glad you got into the coaching program!
Storyworth sounds like a really cool gift idea. I’d love to get my parents to do it but they definitely would not end up keeping up with it, hehe.
Deborah Brooks says
well, I am wondering if mine will keep it up!
Black Knight says
The Storyworth gift is a beautiful idea.
Sadly my parents are in heaven but I am sure that if they had received such gift mom would have completed her “job” and dad would have been too “busy” to do it.
Deborah Brooks says
why are the dads too busy to comply!?
Zenaida Arroyo says
How exciting that you got in the run coaching program! Excited to follow along. That is an awesome gift for your parents. Do let us know what your mom and dad say about the book when they get it.
Deborah Brooks says
Yes, I will certainly follow up on it
MCM Mama says
That training sounds interesting. Looking forward to hearing more about it.
My parents would be the opposite with that gift. My dad is always happy to tell stories about his life LOL.
Deborah Brooks says
My dad is happy to tell stories but he is really lazy about emails and stuff like that. I really hope he gets on board with it soon as I think it will be really nice to have. The coaching will force me to do some structured speed work which I never do intentionally 🙂
