Thanks for joining Kim and me for the weekly run down. This week we say hello to June and boy is it warming up fast. We are looking forward to a busy month ahead of travel and fun activities with friends and family.
Weekly Run Down
Sunday- 3.5 mile run + stretch
Another run/walk with the hubs in the books. We are 3 weeks out from his 5K race and making progress. We had a chat about motivation vs discipline. He doesn’t love running yet but maybe we will get there?
Monday- Peloton walk + full body strength + core + stretch
It was not the warm and sunny Memorial Day we are accustomed to around here. Therefore, no pool time today. I continued with Andy Speer’s Strength Density Training Program week 2 and upped the weights slightly from last week. Lots of deadlifts! We are finally in the last week of Olivia’s daily core challenge.
Tuesday- 3.75 mile run/walk + stretching/mobility
I am finding it a little frustrating to keep having to take walk breaks but that is where I am right now. Just have to keep moving forward the best I can. Thankfully, I have the best run squad who are willing to wait for me to catch up.
Wednesday- Peloton walk + core + upper body strength + barre and stretch
I am enjoying warming up with Peloton treadmill walks before my strength classes. Today was upper body and more core with Andy’s density program. So many bicep curls-guns out!
Thursday- 4.5 mile walk + run + stretch
Today’s workout was really a walk with a short run. I just wasn’t feeling it this morning. It was also very hot! It’s okay tomorrow is another day.
Friday-warm up walk + core + upper + lower body strength + Peloton cycle
I finished up week 2 of Andy’s density strength program. So many squats! I had to do a few “emotional laps” (IYKYK) between sets.I’m continuing to enjoy the warm up treadmill walk classes and finishing with cycle after strength.
It is over 90 degrees today! Wow-we warmed up fast with June. I was kind of enjoying the cooler mornings the last few weeks.
Saturday- rest day
It was a gorgeous day today with temps in the mid 80’s. We headed to the farmer’s market this morning to grab some fab looking veggies and spent the afternoon relaxing by the pool. It was a great rest day.
Kimberly Hatting says
It warmed up a lot in Iowa last week as well! You know I like the heat, but not when it happens overnight. I’m looking forward to diving into Andy’s strength program!
Deborah Brooks says
yes it got hot fast!
Chocolaterunsjudy says
I didn’t fall in love with running initially. Just give him time to figure out what he wants — I love that at least he’s trying!
We had 2 days over 90, and this morning it’s in the 40s. Which isn’t a bad thing. 🙂
Nothing wrong with walking during a run. Beats not running, right?
Deborah Brooks says
Just what we needed 🙂
Melissa says
we heated up this week too!! it got to upper 80s, which is hot for us. Luckily when I run it’s still dark and not as hot. I also took a rest day Saturday- a farmers market and pool day sounds great!
Deborah Brooks says
just what we needed!
Coco says
I love that your husband is taking on this 5K challenge! Maybe crossing the finish line will add a dash of motivation.
We had weather whiplash between yesterday and today — I should have saved my “long” run for today.
Deborah Brooks says
today was definitely a better run day!
Jenny says
It’s easy to run if you love running- so I’m impressed that your husband is getting out there and doing it even though he doesn’t love it. Maybe finishing the 5K will make him like it more. Either way- I love the photo of the two of you!
The heat might be making your runs extra hard- it takes a while to get acclimated so this time of year is hard. Anyway it sounds like you had a great week- that strength program sounds HARD!
Deborah Brooks says
I am proud of him for sticking with it we shall see what happens!
Debbie says
It certainly did get hot fast here in Virginia and it will take us a while to get acclimated to it. Today, though, isn’t so bad…
Here’s hoping your hubby will learn to love running as he realizes how much better regular cardio exercise makes him feel.
Deborah Brooks says
It is much cooler today! I feel like by the time I acclimate summer is over 🙂
Wendy says
Today is much cooler than it has been, but it’s still warm for a half. Note to self: do not sign up for any summer long distance races.
Glad to see the hubs is still running!
Deborah Brooks says
Yes important rule to remember! 🙂
Susanne says
A daily core challenge sounds interesting! When my body is back on track I’ll find new challenges to do 🙂
That’s well done of your husband to go out there running although he doesn’t like it. I hope he’ll eventually find benefits with it that helps him like it more?
We are also having some nice warm summer weather!
Deborah Brooks says
I hope he learns to like it more as well. It’s been fun to do together
Michelle says
It warmed up fast here too and I’m so not ready for it. Good for your hubby for sticking with it – I hope he enjoys the 5K and catches the running bug.
Glad you’re enjoying Andy’s program – I’m just not a fan of his but I am itching to dive into a new strength program…so maybe 🙂
Deborah Brooks says
I hope he does too!I am enjoying his program so far. I really like to vary my strength workouts fo renew challenges.
San says
I just love that you’re running with your husband. My husband Jon just joined the gym (yay!) and I am hoping to get him to walk/run a 5k with me in July!
I understand your frustration that you have to keep taking walk breaks, but you’ll get there… you do what you can with what you have where you are at and that’s all anyone can ask!
Deborah Brooks says
That is exactly what I would say to you but still frustrating! I hope your husband gets into running as well it is fun to do together
Black Knight says
I am sure that your husband will become a regular runner. After the first improvements running becomes a pleasure and after the first races ….. a necessity!
Nothing wrong to walk during a workout even if it’s difficult for me coming back to the previous pace after the stop.
Deborah Brooks says
I hope he does come to enjoy it! I am having fun doing something new with him after 28 years of marriage 🙂
Jenn says
I’m sorry the walking frustrates you. I’ve been doing walk/run intervals for the longest time. I was honestly just getting away from it when I broke my leg, and now… well, forward is a pace. I’m so glad you have a supportive group!
Deborah Brooks says
I have used run walk intervals in the past with great success especially after returning from an injury like you did. What is so frustrating is that I was really in a good place and then I kind of fell off a cliff. I am really hopeful that we can get the meds figured out and I can start to feel back to my old self
Jessie says
Good for your husband for sticking with it even if he’s not loving it! It’s hard for non-runners to get the appeal…but I love it so much. Hopefully he gets to a point where its at least not a complete chore!
Deborah Brooks says
I hope he does too. I am enjoying having another activity to do together
Darlene S Cardillo says
I love that your hubby is giving running a try. Who knows, he may love it or … not!
I totally get what you are saying… I keep thinking I can run non-stop but I no longer can. Maybe I will never be able to again. Many runners do the intervals and they seem to work for long runs but in a race, I wish I could just run…
Deborah Brooks says
I hope he sticks with it!
Lisa @ TechChick Adventures says
Maybe race day excitement will hit your husband! I’m not sure I know anyone who has loved running until they had at least a few months under their belt. It’s exhausting! Ok, I don’t know – what are emotional laps??
Deborah Brooks says
Ha the “emotional laps” are little breaks Peloton instructor Adrian refers to when you do a little lap around your mat to catch your breath between sets. Very helpful! 🙂
Renée says
I’m so proud of your hubs for sticking with the program. he’s going to do so great! with you by his side he’s totally got this. I can imagine your frustration at having to take walk breaks. you know better than anyone I think that embracing the “now” is the only way to get where you want to be. hopefully really soon you won’t need the walk breaks anymore. Then again, some of the best runners I know take walk breaks *wink*
Deborah Brooks says
That is true! And yes I am proud of my husband for sticking with it
Liz Dexter says
Gosh that’s hot! We’re in the 60s here. Always glad of our temperate climes! I was in a long sleeve technical top for my rehab run this morning, although just a t-shirt and jeans for a walk with my friend and her baby later.
Deborah Brooks says
It seems cooler than usual for this time of the year but we know what is coming next month!
