Thanks for joining Kim and me for the Weekly Run Down. Coming back from a 3 week vacation and getting back to regular life is not easy-lol. I am in vacation detox this week and trying to get back on track with exercise and eating. Here’s a peek into my week of fitness.
Vacation Detox
Sunday-Peloton outdoor walk 3 miles + core & stretch
We had a gigantic storm last night which knocked our power out for 12 hours. Welcome home to me! I ended up sleeping downstairs on the couch because it was cooler. Thus, I decided to wait until Tuesday to resume running.I enjoyed some afternoon pool time.
Monday- 3 mile walk + upper and lower body strength + 30 min cycle
Jumping right back into my normal pre vacation schedule. I met a friend for a morning walk and then jumped right back into all things Peloton.
Tuesday-4 ish mile run/walk +stretch and foam roll classes
I was really happy to be back with some of my running friends after my travels. It seemed wise to ease back into running so I decided to start with 3:1 intervals which worked pretty well. I’d rather feel like it was too easy than too hard.
Wednesday- upper & lower body strength + Peloton cycle
I was excited to get back to my regular strength training routine post vacation. After seeing a new JJ split strength program come out, I decided to join that for some structure. I thought it would be smart to start on the lower end of my weights range and I sure felt it. Vacation detox in progress.
I shared my favorite Summer No Cook Creamy Gazpacho on IG here. I love this recipe because its so easy, healthy and refreshing. My 2 secret ingredients: V-8 juice and silky tofu (for added protein) and creaminess.
Thursday – 4 mile run/walk + stretch + upper body barre
It was a nice “cooler” morning today and I am sticking with my intervals. Great to be out with my friends as always.
Friday-Peloton walk + upper body strength + core + stretch
Vacation detox is hard! I am definitely feeling sore from my workouts this week. I’m also feeling like I need to stretch more.
Saturday-Peloton stretch and rest day
I strolled around the Farmer’s Market this morning trying to decide if the mozzarella cheese was up to my Italy standards. LOL. I am sure it’s not but I got some anyway.
Later, it was the perfect day to lounge by the pool with my book. Cari and I have an unofficial virtual book club and she is way ahead of me!

Looks like you had a nice return to reality! I’m so glad you got the clearance to run again and join up with your crew!
Deborah Brooks says
Yes me too 🙂 It has been great to get back out there with them post vacay
Melissa says
welcome back! good luck with the mozzarella cheese – hopefully it meets your standards lol. sounds like a pretty nice week!
Deborah Brooks says
A slow ease back into my normal schedule was good
Darlene S. Cardillo says
Welcome back to the real world.
You seemed to have recovered well.
I bet you miss that food.
Deborah Brooks says
It was a pretty good week the jet lag was not too bag

Ugh on the power outage! 12 hours is a long time!
Reading by the pool sounds like a great way to ease back into reality. 😉
Deborah Brooks says
It was very relaxing 🙂

Sounds like you made some great choices this week! But ugh on coming home to that power outage! It’s cooler downstairs for us, too, but there’s really nowhere to sleep and it’s even closer to the very loud generator (which doesn’t power AC).
Maybe you needed to take a mozzarella class in Italy! Next time, eh?
Deborah Brooks says
Yes, that would be fun
Jenny says
Wow, it must be really hard coming home after three weeks. I was only gone five days and I’m all disoriented. Sounds like you had a great week of workouts, although I’m sure your body was saying “what in the world is going on?”
Your pool/reading time sounds amazing. I need to do some of that!
Deborah Brooks says
I am a little more sore than I expected but I am sure this week will be better
Kimberly Hatting says
Vacation detox!! Love it 🙂 Great job easing back into your routine…I need to check out that new JJ program!
Deborah Brooks says
I was a little more sore this week than expected!
Debbie says
Vacation detox is hard, but it looks like you’re easing back into the thick of it.
The storms down your way must have been far worse than out here. I was shocked when I heard how many trees were down on the GW Parkway and how long it took crews to reopen the road.
Deborah Brooks says
Yes it was really bad here and looks like we are headed for another one tomorrow
Liz Dexter says
Lovely to be back with your people! Glad you’ve had a good post-holiday ease back in.
Deborah Brooks says
me too thanks!

I’ve been in and out of reading blogs recently but I’ve followed your Italian adventure on IG. I hope we can go there later this year. Italy is our holiday paradise and we have a specific place we normally go to.
I’m so happy to see you’re back to running!
Ugh about the storm! We had one yesterday but it wasn’t so bad. We often have nasty storms in the winter here but seem to escape power cuts normally for some reason!
Deborah Brooks says
Italy is my happy place for sure! Hope you make it there this year too
San says
Great job easing back into your routine. I am sure the workouts with friends made it extra sweet to be back after an epic trip!
Deborah Brooks says
Yes, trying to ease back in!
Black Knight says
Mozzarella is my favorite cheese. You visited Campania and I hope you had lunch with the local famous Mozzarella of Bufala (Bufala Campana).
The workouts are easier when we run with friends. I have to wait until fall before coming back to run in group: now my friends run in late afternoon while I prefer to run in early morning.
Deborah Brooks says
I am already missing the food!!
Jenn says
So glad you were able to ease right back n to everything.
That gazpacho looks good, but not gelato-good. Everything tastes so much better in Italy. I don’t know why, but it’s just how it goes.
Deborah Brooks says
Is anything gelato good?! 🙂
Jessie Benson says
That gazpacho looks amazing! Way to dive right back in (but in a safe way!) It always feel so good to do some good lifting after a break- I’m always so sore though!
Deborah Brooks says
I am definitely sore this week!
Renée says
good week getting back at it! bummer about the power being out just as you were home! I agree that easing back into running is the best strategy – it IS hard after vacation but you’ve managed really well!
Deborah Brooks says
We can just do our best every day!

Vacation detox struggles are real for sure! My vacation meals were not extravagant (how I imagine food in Italy! 🙂) but it sure wasn’t the food routine I was used to. I always joke that I’m happy to get home from vacation so I can enjoy a salad! Coming home to a power outage would also not be a great “welcome home” but it looks like you settled in well. Yay for all of the friend time!
Deborah Brooks says
the power outage was not planned! I have been liking getting back to my regular salads and meals for sure
