Welcome to the Ultimate Coffee Date January 2018! Coco and I are so glad that you are joining us today. Looks like we have some new faces, some familiar friends and some old friends who have come back to catch up. Is there really any better way to start off the year than a coffee date with friends? Let’s get right to it shall we! Grab your favorite mug and join us.
Ultimate Coffee Date January
If we were having coffee, I would tell you…It is the perfect morning to snuggle up on the couch in front of the fire with a warm mug in my hand. Seriously, could it be any colder out there? Bomb cyclone or polar vortex whatever you are it’s time to go bye bye. I’ve got goals to achieve and you are really messing us my schedule. I was excited when I woke up on Thursday to the beautiful little coat of snow we had. I popped on my Yaktrax and literally ran up and down my street for 3 miles. Who does that? I did get this cool pic though!
When I saw my image on Strava, I thought it was hilarious! Take that Mother Nature. The things I will do to rack up miles for the Lululemon #4080challenge.
If we were having coffee, I would tell you… In case you missed all of my photos, we had a fabulous family vacation in Aruba. I spent my week away reading 3 books, lounging around a lot and not doing very much exercise. I like to take a mini break from running and strength training at the end of the year to give my body a rest before starting my next training plan.
I did walk about a mile and half every morning to get one of these delicious Acai bowls. The fruit just tastes so much better there and I could not resist. This little place has a line around the block each morning like you would not believe. Until next time!
If we were having coffee, I would tell you…As fabulous as our vacation was, it is always great to come home. I am happy to be back in my own bed and back on my regular schedule. My mini goals for the week were to get back into the pool and make it to a yoga class. I made my return to my masters swim class yesterday after a 4 month absence. Boy did I get my butt kicked. Hot yoga is on my plan today. Perfect for a day like today!
Thanks for joining us for the Ultimate Coffee Date today-Stay warm friends! It’s almost spring

I’m glad you had a nice time while on vacation with your family! No matter how much fun I have on vacation, it’s always nice to be back in my own bed!
Thanks for the linkup!
Deborah Brooks says
It definitely is!
Lisa @ Mile by Mile says
I sometimes run circles around my development which is pretty small. Im sure my neighbors also question what Im doing when they see me pass their house multiple times! Your vacation sounds amazing. Looking at pictures of warm weather right now makes me so jealous!
Deborah Brooks says
I know I wish I could go back just for a few days
Kimberly Hatting says
Your Aruba pics were amazing (and, serious FOMO happening over here in Iowa). I am SO ready for winter to vacate my life. We had a beautiful white Christmas, and it’s time to move on to warmer things. How far was your little jaunt in the neighborhood? Did you have to run very far before turning around to get your total to 3 miles?
Deborah Brooks says
My cul de sac is tiny we have only 4 houses on it. I must have run around it a hundred times ha ha. Once I got going it was fun and I did not care that I looked like an idiot
Maureen @ Maureen Gets Real says
I love that you still got your run in Thursday! I’m jealous since a foot of snow is not conducive to even running up and down the street.
Deborah Brooks says
No a foot of snow is too much for running but I am also dying to whip out my snow shoes so I’d love a big snow dump.
Wendy says
Altho we have a little snow on the ground, it isn’t enough for me to pull on the YaxTrax. I’m glad about that! We’re supposed to have a heat wave starting tomorrow–it’s supposed to bein the 30s! Bring on the shorts!
Deborah Brooks says
yes bring on the heat wave! WE get a reprieve this week too should feel glorious
Megan @ Meg Go Run says
LOLLLLLL at the map of your cul de sac run!!! I have done shit like that before!!! 🙂 Go girl!
Deborah Brooks says
It’s a little batty!
Judy @ Chocolaterunsjudy says
You are much braver than me getting into a pool when it’s so cold out! I don’t think I’ll be swimming much for a while. . .
I have run around parking lots on more than one occasion. 🙂
There’s no place like home!
Deborah Brooks says
The pool was surprisingly warm-walking back to my car w wet hair not so good 🙂
HoHo Runs says
I’ll probably never get the opportunity to wear YakTrax. I really want to try them at least once. You captured a cool picture of them! I’m also doing the Strava challenge but it started the day after I ran 10 miles. Maybe I’ll reach the 40 anyway. The Acai bowl looks delicious. Why does the fruit taste do much better on a tropical vacation? Thanks for the coffee!
Deborah Brooks says
I don’t know why the fruit tastes better but it always does. I also don’t know why the Strava challenge cannot include treadmill runs. I will only barely make it to 40K with this weather ugh
Michelle @ Running with Attitude says
I saw your vacation photos on IG – looks like you had a great vacation. I love Aruba and haven’t been in forever!
This polar cyclone thing is seriously messing with plans too – I’m just so over it already!
Stay warm and thanks for coffee!
Deborah Brooks says
yes we are not used it around here!
Farrah says
ahaha, that’s an awesome training image, hahaha. Your Aruba vacation looks like it was amazing! I’d love to go there someday! 😛
I hope you’re staying warm as well!
Deborah Brooks says
it was a fantastic family trip. I am sure missing the warmth now
Coco says
It was like a track workout without the track! Too funny! Your family beach photo is priceless!
Deborah Brooks says
Ha yes a track workout without the track! I love the family photo too and no one wanted to do it 🙂
[email protected] says
Sounds like a wonderful trip to Aruba! I’ll be joining you back to the cold from Florida on Monday and I’m not thrilled!
Deborah Brooks says
I think it is supposed to be a little better next week
vicki says
That Strava map… hilarous! Your vacation looks wonderful and it’s always nice to take a little down time.
Deborah Brooks says
Down time is always good but glad to be back at it
Erica @ Erica Finds says
That Strava map! Love it. We run in circles around here to pick up friends sometimes but not tiny circles like that – LOL. We have really cold temps here at the moment but I’ve been doing some outside running for the Lululemon Strava challenge. It’s amazing what you can get used to (and what I’ll do for the potential swag.) Hope it’s a great year ahead!
Deborah Brooks says
Yes I am doing that challenge too it is amazing what you can accomplish if you put your mind to it.
Teresa says
That Strava map is hysterical …but you got it done!! Your family pic in Aruba is beautiful! Glad you guys had a wonderful trip, what a great way to end the year! Thanks for hosting Deborah!
Deborah Brooks says
Definitely the perfect way to end the year with the family before everyone scatters back to their school lives.
Kim W says
That acai bowl looks amazing! Definitely worth the walk and around the block wait. The contrast between your Aruba pics and yaktrax pics is striking. I hope we aren’t in for a crazy weather training season!
Deborah Brooks says
I know it was a rude awakening coming home to such unusual cold. I hope this weather does not last too long. We have miles to run!
Akaleistar says
Sounds like you had a fun vacation, and the Acai bowl looks amazing!
Deborah Brooks says
Ah it was so amazing!
Clarinda says
I’m so jealous of your trip to Aruba. Looks like a fabulous time and that Acai Bowl looks downright delicious. Love your Strava map! That is awesome. 🙂
Deborah Brooks says
The family trip was fantastic and yes those acai bowls are to die for 🙂
Madhuri says
Aruba looks beautiful. I am yet to explore that part of the world. Such a beautiful family picture. I agree, this Cyclone Bomb is messing my schedule a lot. All I can thank it for is the hot chocolates I get to indulge guilt free. Wish you a happy new year Deb!
Deborah Brooks says
Well hot chocolate is a plus for sure!
fairytales and fitness says
After the Running of the Elves in December, I too gave myself a little running break!
Glad you enjoyed your vacay and I agree, no matter how great it is to get away, there’s no place like home (and being in your own bed)!
Deborah Brooks says
We all need to remember to give our bodies a break every once in a while.
Kim G says
The sträva image is quite hilarious but you have to do what you have to do! The yaktrax are so awesome too. I got a pair for Christmas and tried them out on a run last week.
Deborah Brooks says
It is fun to run in yaktrax I hope we get some more snow to play around in. Then I will be ready for spring 🙂
Lesley says
I get how tropical fruit tastes better in its native environment. I love eating pineapple in Hawaii. It just tastes better, and I can’t describe why.
Deborah Brooks says
Oh the pineapple was amazing in Hawaii! We actually shipped a case back ha ha
Sara says
I love Aruba!! Glad to hear that you had an amazing time. And you even kept up with your workouts! That’s really impressive. This cold weather hit here and I totally went straight to hibernation mode! I’m finally crawling out and ready to take on this new week!
Deborah Brooks says
We had a rough weather week here too but I was excited to get back to my routine. I hope you have a fabulous week! Stay warm
Becca | Rabbit Food Runner says
Hahaha the things we do for Strava…

Laura @ Sprint 2 the Table says
I bet you were wishing you’d stayed on vacation as you ran down the street with your spikes! I can’t believe the basing the east coast received. Stay warm!
Deborah Brooks says
I know it’s so unusual!
Sharon says
Love Aruba! Hubby and I had our honeymoon there! Such a wonderful place to relax! That Acai bowl looks yummy! Way to get out in the snow and run 3 miles in your cul de sac for the Lululemon Strava Challenge! 🙂 Let’s hope there are good prizes like last year!
Deborah Brooks says
I do hope there are good prizes again. The thinks we do for shorts!
Christy@ My Dirt Road Anthem says
That fruit bowl does look amazing! I have never been to Aruba, but I do hope to get there some day. Hawaii has been pretty sweet to me twice though. I love that you run three miles around your cul de sac.. a runner does what they have to!
Deborah Brooks says
Hawaii is amazing too! Yes crazy runner girl here 🙂
Marcia says
I just couldn’t bring myself to do the Lulu challenge in our sub-z temps. I’ve gone soft. That bowl is amazing. I experienced my first one like that in FL and I feel like we need a place here that sells them. Thanks for the linkup!
Deborah Brooks says
No one would ever call you soft!
Janelle @ Run With No Regrets says
Love that family pic from Aruba – it sounds like you had a wonderful time and it had to be great to be away from all this snow and cold! Great job with your workouts! Hot yoga is great this time of year.
I forgot all about the Coffee Date 🙁 but I will definitely join in next month!
Deborah Brooks says
Definitely hope to see you next month for the coffee date
Chelsea says

Missy - Getting Fit to Find Myself says
I saw your Instagram post last week and chuckles because I have been known to do the same thing. You have to get your run in! Looks like you had a wonderful family vacation!
Deborah Brooks says
Ha yes not too much will stop me! Now that I have run in the crazy cold I feel like I can handle anything mother nature wants to throw my way
Karen Bayne says
I’m sad I missed that Instagram post it cracks me up!! The map is hilarious lol I am thinking I may need a pair of yaktrax with all the snow we have been getting lately.
Your vacation looked pretty dreamy 🙂 I think those little mini breaks are good for us!
Deborah Brooks says
I really love the yaktrax! Hope you have a chance to try them out
