Two Steps Forward-Weekly Run Down

Thanks for joining the Weekly Run Down with me and Kim. This week, I am finally feeling like I am making some progress with running again. I am feeling two steps forward without the one step back. Fingers crossed that lasts! Here is a peek into my week of fitness and fun.

weekly run down

Weekly Run Down

Sunday- 4 mile run + stretch

It was a nice 68 degrees and cloudy and today’s run felt pretty good. I am still doing 4:1 intervals and feeling better with each run. All was good until the heavens opened up for a torrential finish to our run. Thus, no photo!

Monday- Peloton walk + upper & lower body strength + core + cycle

It was a strong start to the week with a nice stack of Peloton classes. Just the way I like it!

Weekly run down

Tuesday- 4.25 mile run + 1 mile walk + hot yoga

It was a gorgeous fall-ish morning with temps in the 60’s yay. Two steps forward again today as I was feeling pretty good with the 4:1 intervals. I may try upping to 5:1 on Thursday. Later, in the afternoon I returned to another hot yoga class. I am hoping to keep this Thursday afternoon time in my schedule.

Weekly run down

Wednesday- 5 mile walk + core + Peloton barre

It was so gorgeous out again this morning so I headed out for a nice walk and then some Peloton core and barre. I was not feeling the weights today so I skipped that.

Did you catch my stretch of the day? I love these hip swivels both before and after a workout.

Thursday-4.25 mile run/walk + 1 mile walk + stretch

I extended my intervals today to 5:1 and felt pretty good out there. It’s challenging but doable just how I want it to feel. Two steps forward indeed. This quote from an IG friend really resonated with me today.

Weekly run down

“Do not allow your former successes to be the enemy of your future potential” Great advice huh?

Friday- 3.5 mile walk + lower body strength + core

I had to take advantage of our fab weather before the remnants of the tropical storm hit tonight. Got in a few Peloton classes later for a low key end to my week.

Saturday-rest day

Saturday is my usual rest day. I have a wedding shower this morning and then we are heading out to Middleburg, VA to celebrate a friend’s birthday weekend.

Unfortunately, we are going to be hit with tropical storm rain and wind which might literally dampen my plans to walk around Middleburg. Only about 45 min away from DD area but feels like a whole different place. It is know for it’s horses and quaint Virginia feel. I know we will still have fun getting away for the weekend with friends to celebrate.

Sunday- TBD

I am hoping to wake up to clearing skies and be able to get in a run out in Middleburg. We shall see!

I’m so glad to see you are back and running again! I have come back after injury, pregnancy, etc. and that quote also resonates with me. I hope the weather clears up and you can get in a run/walk. And have fun!

It is not always easy to come back but always worth it right?

Yay for the two steps forward…and no looking back 🙂 I’m glad you had great weather to take advantage with your continued progress!

Yes me too all was good until this weekend. The week ahead looks good

I hope that you don’t get too wet today! Crazy that tropical storm is hitting the east coast. Fingers crossed it’s not too bad!

we did get very wet all weekend!

That’s such exciting news that you’re feeling better and making such good progress!

You know that I love Middleburg and about half of our gravel rides start or at least go through there. 🙂 Are you staying at the Salamander Inn?

I’d hoped that today would be clear because we’re having a barbecue later. We shall see if it clears up in time…

    • Deborah Brooks says

      09/24/2023 at 3:25 pm

yes, we stayed at Salamander and it was lovely despite the terrible weather

I’m so glad to see your running go well and some fall weather too! So nice! Hope you’re able to enjoy Middleburg despite the storm!

Me too and yes, we had a great weekend despite the deluge that followed us

So wonderful to read that your running is going well and you’re feeling more normal! Great news.

Love those color blocked tights in your strength photo, so cute!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      09/24/2023 at 3:26 pm

yes, things are starting to go better thanks

Yay on the two steps forward! I really like that quote too. It’s hard to let go of what you used to do, but that baggage will hold you back from making progress from where you are.

I hope you get a break in the rain this morning before it comes around again.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      09/24/2023 at 3:26 pm

Yes, it is hard to let go and just appreciate where you are. No break in the rain!

  8. Jenny says

    09/24/2023 at 9:04 am

Ooh, I hope you’re able to enjoy a run today in Middleburg! It sounds really pretty.
Glad your runs are feeling so good. I LOVE that quote. I’m still working on not comparing myself to my old running self (almost there- there’s a part of me that still doesn’t want to let it go!)

    • Deborah Brooks says

      09/24/2023 at 3:27 pm

No run due to the rain never stopping but over all a good week thanks

I hope you’re able to get your run in! Sounds like a nice little getaway. I love the quote you shared! So true.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      09/24/2023 at 3:27 pm

It was a nice little getaway despite the rain that never ended!

So glad you’re making progress and are happy with how things are going. I’ve managed to set myself back by having Covid – not sure when I’ll be able to get running again as I’ve been pretty knocked about by it and know I need to rest. Will be nice to be able to get outside somewhere other than the garden at some point …

    • Deborah Brooks says

      09/24/2023 at 3:28 pm

I sure hope you are starting to feel better soon and good idea to start slow.

I am so glad you’re feeling more confident in getting back to running. That’s exciting.
These hip swivels are pure stretching gold IMHO. I love doing them.

    • Deborah Brooks says

      09/24/2023 at 4:22 pm

they are a great stretch and warm up for sure

  12. Catrina says

    09/24/2023 at 11:43 pm

I love that quote! I know so many who keep on comparing themselves with their younger years. What’s the point?

Two steps forward and one back is still forward! Well done!! So happy for you!

    • Deborah Brooks says

      09/25/2023 at 7:57 am

It can be challenging not to compare yourself to another time in your life. I am trying to focus on all that I can do and how grateful I am

What gorgeous fall days you are having. I am so happy to see you running again! I’m just back to it again, and I know those happy feelings!
